So I broke my hand, boredom quickly ensued.

Last friday I had the brilliant idea, yet unknown to me, to throw myself ass first down some concrete stairs, while prior talking to my buddy who then looked on in horror as I slid and bumped my way to the bottom. I quickly got up, laughing my bruised ass off, mainly out of embarrasment until I noticed something was seriously wrong with my left hand, which I had eagerly used in trying to stop if not at least slow my decsent. Turns out I broke it, much to my dismay.

Since that dreaded day, there haven't been much pain, if any at all. Save the pain of doing daily actions that usually involves both hands. The danish healthcare system have taken good care of me and today they told me, that I'd be cast free in a little over 3 weeks. Hell yes! So all in all, I got off EZ.

My main problem though lies on the side of entertainment. I've been reading more, but my mind tires quickly when it comes to that, about an hour or so. Currently reading "The Divine Comedy". But I guess thats to be expected when an idiot decides to tackle ancient intelligent reading. I also just completed the RPG. Planescape Torment, which just might have the best and most fleshed out story of any game I've played, but it was a bit difficult gameplay wise since my left hand is huge ball with only my pointer finger and thumb seeing the light of day, and when the game requires a lot of micro management and pausing, but I did it. I'm also currently watching Californication, lots of nudity and humor combined to keep my spirit up.

So I'm reaching out to TL with my deformed left hand please help me with the following.

1.) Any games you can recommend that don't involve too much keyboard action. I'm a sucker for anything with an engaging story and fleshed out characters, but it does not necessarily have to have any of that.

2.) Any movies or tv shows you can recommend. Anything at all, as long as you explain why.

3.) A weird request, but anything exercise related. Any alternative methods for working out. Since the beginning of this year I've gotten into lifting heavy. lots of compound exercises, but because of my hand, thats out of the question now. I've decided to take up some running and some interval training, but the paranoid notion of losing my gains roams around in the back of my head, whether thats unlikely or not.

Thanks for reading my first attempt at a blog post, had nothing better to do :b

Keep your hand flexible by playing sc2. It will help heal quicker, the pain is just your body being lazy and not wanting to fix itself.

As a single guy I can say there is no way in hell I'd risk my right hand.

casts tend to restrict movement, not that anything you said made a lick of sense

Point & click Game I guess, like runaway ? Heard they got a nice story.

Sounds vaguely familiar. Will check it out, thank you.

As for minecraft I think I might need 3 fingers for that, also pretty afraid to get addicted to that shit :b

I feel you man, injured my left wrist like 2 weeks ago now...

For exercising, I focus on legs and core training. My focus is martial arts though, so not everything is there to build muscle. Some squats, basic footwork, stretching of the glute area, standing on head and elbows, different planks, spine flexibility. Not sure about running, your hand might not enjoy the repeated shocks. I did some weighted walk to buy some bricks (I stand on them for balance) and it was fun. One handed push ups, with fingertips or fist. I think that's about it. Not a lot of details because smartphone internet, but if you want some feel free to ask.

All I can think of in terms of games is dungeon crawl stone soup, but it's kinda opposite of what you asked. No story or character development, it's a rogue like. The gameplay and difficulty make it addictive though and you can play one handed no problem.
Or try playing sc2 with mouse only, you'll get sick skills in 3 weeks.

Edit : I am left handed. Needless to say your weak hand can also do "the job". Not that it concerns OP.

The walking dead (game + series if u havent watched i guess, but defo game.)

Civilization, this game is soooooo addictive.

Masturbation, as previously mentioned. :D

Football manager? Dont like it myself but i cant imagine needing 2 hands.

Watch awesome T.V series / Read awesome books. ( I suggest breaking bad and for books, the chronicles of ancient darkness.)

All point'n'click games.

All turn-based tactical games (X-com is amazing.)
Useless wet fish.

Doctors only keep the cast on your to keep you coming back. If you get hurt, you pay the doctors more, why would you take advice from a doctor?

hmmm, follow the advice of your doctor whose education is backed by years of science, or the musings of a mildly retarded internet poster. Decisions, op!

Civilization is my first instinct, but playing without a keyboard would be slow and steady. Shogun total war is another strategy game that I play and I use the keyboard a lot less.

Your cast is only three weeks, so you are lucky, but you may still have some atrophy. I broke my wrist and had a cast for 8 weeks, and afterwards couldn't throw a frisbee 3 meters. I suggest a little left handed training nce you get the cast removed.

Civ definitely is cool.

SimCity (preferably 4!) or any of the avernum or geneforge series are cool games that require little activity.

I broke my hand a couple times and I found the atrophy way less than my wrist (though i never had the hand in a hard cast). That usually comes back within a few weeks, and using a mouse after it is off is probably a good way to ease back into things. Probably ask your ortho about that because it varies case by case. I didnt need pt for when i had my cast off. i know my buddy did, and we both had similar scaphoid fractures

You should try Crusader Kings 2! I've been having a lot of fun with it...Might want to rebind pause from space to make it easier for one hand? Probably could do fine regardless, though.

Check out The Banner Saga. You can pick it up for free through Stream. It's a turn based strategy game with vikings! Anyway, it only requires the mouse, and very little at that. It's also quite a simple game to just pick up and play. It's kept me busy the last few days at least.

Cynry: Yeah, I plan to work my core and legs a lot. I can't do back squats, but front squats are probably okay if I rest the bar on my arms. I must admit I'm a "newb" when it comes to stretching and flexibility training, I know about the basics I guess. I don't think I'll be playing sc2 with the mouse though, as I don't want to install bad habbits. lol however I did spend a bit of time yesterday just splitting clumps of drones. I'll definitely check out the stone soup game, never heard of it. thanks!

9-bit: I fear for your future offspring lol. I thank you though, for caring enough to give advice however dangerous and misguided it might be.

Capped: I played the shit out of the walking dead, kinda burned out by the tv show though. But I wish I had a game very similar to the walking dead right now. When it comes to x-com and the like. I love that kind of game, in my eyes the greatest game ever made is the original (sorry BW). But yeah, I love that series including Jagged Alliance 1-2. I am however looking for a good point and click the options are just so vast it's hard to fall on one in paticular, however a previous user mentioned runaway. Breaking bad? Heard a lot of good about that show, just when people tell me what it's about, it dosen't sound that interesting, but since so many people are into it, there must be something about it.

Manifesto7 and Hawk: Haven't played shogun total war but I know it, played a lot of civ 5 though and got sucked into it for about 10 days or so, then suddenly my addiction was gone. Haven't played the new expansions, could look into that since I have the original. I remember playing sim city 4 yeaaars ago, so long ago that I can't remember if I liked it or not. the 2000 version was amazing though. I'm completely ignorant to the geneforge and avernum games? Don't even know the genre, so I'll google that. thanks!

And yeah the doctor did mention atrophy, but since it's only 4 weeks, I'm not sure how bad it'll be. I'm more concerned with fungus and shit like that, since it's summer and body parts get sweaty, especially if it's covered in a warm cast and you have no way to clean it =/

all of their games are turn based i believe. i never actually played gene forge, just heard about it. all their games have lengthy demos too. graphics arent special obviosuly, but the story and gameplay is really good
