I've been thinking lately that I need to take some of the concepts I use in speedrunning (which are in reality applicable to everything) and utilize it in starcraft 2. One of the best features provided by llanfair (see above photo) in my opinion is the ability to write up a goal time that you can always see. It is simply a time but more than enough to motivate myself to break it in any way whether it is through better execution, consistency or more difficult skips.
I have two separate goals while currently running super meat boy on any% (Completion of light world Dr.fetus ASAP) which include getting a sub 20:30 and a secondary goal of getting top three in season 1 of SRL. These goals have been great motivators in my practice and in seeing my times drop week by week.
In sports that i've played over the years such as hockey for example, the goal generally came from the individual while direction of practice was provided through a coach. Coaches on the other hand for starcraft 2 are less of a necessity or just less common in a sense meaning that both the goal and directing of practice must come from the player quite often.
My strongest gameplay in WoL came approximately during the first three seasons since grandmaster league was released. I believe with GM just coming out, the goal of reaching grandmasters was a big reason why my gameplay peaked at this point in time. I had finally achieved GM league in the second season since release where I ended the season at 100 GM. If you took a long at my ladder ranking since that specific season, it steadily declined to a point in which I would sit around high masters. A decent ranking none the less, but it never improved is the more worrying dilemma. I no longer had a goal to strive for and therefore did not care to practice at the same level.
Time to set some goals and see if I can get back into shape for sc2 HOTS
Goals
-Get back into GM league by August
-Reducing my supply block average below 45 seconds overall.
