The SC2 World Champion: Musing with Art

I'm not sure why I got this idea, but about 2 days ago I was thinking about the unofficial SC2 world champion, and how that 'title' is passed around from player to player. In thinking about this idea I also remembered other conversations about what it would be like to physically pass the title on as if there were a fabricated object to designate this title. Curiously and somewhat inquisitively, I decided to look into designing an item that could so to speak be passed around or what it might look like (Coincidentally I wanted to see if I could improve upon on what I did in a blog some time ago, and this felt like this was a good outlet to do so).

Keeping with the world champion and trophy themes, I thought about using a medal, or a statue, or belt, or something that is traditionally used. Of all of these the medal seemed the most practical in that it's travel size and easy to pass around, and also is somewhat in line with world championships and the Olympics in some ways (I also got some ideas from looking at medal designs from those, and other competitions). During the process I also wanted to make sure that the idea was a clean design and somewhat minimalistic yet still evoked Star 2 enough to be identifiable, so I used some of the elements surrounding the visuals of the logo, a few other graphic ideas, and finally arrived at this end result:

I tried to use both photoshop and illustrator here, in an effort to try to use the best tools from both, and I hope you like what I came up with (though I think it doesn't quite mimic a real world object in quite the way I would have liked, part is due to time spent on it). As a final note of interest, maybe someone adept in metalsmithing can truly fabricate a real medal so it can be really passed from player to player.
