Silom is the busiest business district and has some of the highest land value in the city, so I don't think finding an apartment would be easy there. Sathorn is mostly endless rows of office buildings, I've seen some condominiums there, but price is wayy up there unfortunately. Oh an terrible traffic due to lots of school around. I don't think it's practical for you to search for a place to live in either of those 2 places. It's highly improbable that you'll find one. Nana has a very large indian community, but I'm not familiar with apartments. I would imagine finding apartment around here would be pretty hard. Some parts near Phrom Phong are called "Little Tokyo", a sizable Japanese community. In general, the early parts of the Sukhumvit Road is really overcrowded, and really expensive (anything before Soi50). The area I would actually suggest you to look around is: On-nut. Many foreigners I knew lived there. It's accessible to the BTS line, so I don't understand why living further away would be a problem, would you mind explaining why? Bangkok is huge, and it's quite common for people to spend 1-2hrs just to get around somewhere everyday. On-nut is a fairly big hub for people changing from buses to the skytrain. I understand that you would want to live near a train station (who wouldn't, best way to travel in the city), but I would suggest you extend your search to the MRT lines too to increase your options. I've always hated taxis and buses are so confusing you can easily get lost if you don't know what you're doing. For example, some buses line with the same number doesn't actually run the exact same courses! >.< Oh yeah stupid system, but it's been there for decades. I googled too and found some reasonable lists, try this one: http://www.thaiapartment.com/Apt_10K_25K.asp. (Disclaimer: I don't know how reliable are these sites.) I skimmed through the list rapidly and randomly, but this one looks quite nice to me http://www.sitaraplace.com/location , all photos are exaggerated to look good of course. I'll talk to some people to see if I can find better info, but good luck nonetheless! Be careful of scams and dodgy contracts when you don't speak the native language. Most old-fashioned ignorant Thais seems to think that every Caucasian is richhh, so some of them will try to cheat you. Eyes open. Also, have you tried newspapers yet? The Bangkok Post and The Nation is the two big anglophone newspaper. I believe both of them have "Classified" sections with up-to-date ads. Try looking in those. If you have questions about the city or the people (any kind really) etc., I would be happy to answer them if I can.

![]() Actually, in the list I gave you, there's quite a few places around Sathorn/Silom/BangRak area, but the reason I didn't mention the rest was because most of them didn't actually have an informative site, so I had no idea how it's going to turn out. You could check them out if you're undecided. I'm not a big fan of boxing (in fact, I hardly ever watch them), but since you're here for it, Lumpinee Stadium & Rajadamnern Stadium are the two major stadium, usually where the big fights happen. I'm sure they have regular schedule so visit them if you want.

Thai basics is simple enough, simple grammar (compared to Latin based tongues): no conjugations, no tenses, but there are many little unimportant subtleties that you'll encounter in day-to-day life. For example, there's more than 20 different words to use in place of the pronoun "I" depending on who you're talking to. There are only 5 tones that are fixed for each word, unlike English where the tone of the word can change depending on the sentence from enunciation (which is practically non-existent in Thai, people don't articulate that much if at all). Most words are borrowed from Pali and Sanskrit (along with others as well) which makes the transliteration (romanization) of the script just awful and also makes no sense at all. The script takes practice to write, but the spelling can be quite confusing with redundant alphabets. Fun fact: almost no Thai can actually arrange all 44 alphabets in order (myself included)! Except for children under the age of 10, their memories float away for some reason when they grow. Also, working for clients from your home while doing something you enjoy elsewhere is pretty awesome ![]()
