Simply after living in LA and NY most of my life, I came to Korea for a study abroad program and to meet my family. My initial cravings for In N Out, Papa Johns, Shake Shack, Chipotle, 53rd Halal, and other various American food were dealt with through the awesomeness of Samgyupsal and various korean food.

It's been a month now and I'm slowly starting to lose my appetite and my mind due to my ineptness of finding decent American food. I tried googling and searching but haven't had great luck yet.

KFC, Kraze Buger, Lotteria, Mr. Pizza, etc have all been very disappointing T_T

The only place I have yet to go is Vatos Urban Tacos in Itaewon, and that's it.

People who are in South Korea right now please recommend me some food places!

Much thanks!

Yaletown in Sinchon.
Also might just be personal preferences, but I love Popeyes in Korea (they don't have it in Australia). The fries are just amazing.

I'm a big fan of Shy Bana, they haven't gotten much attention but it's basically American soul food, and they make a wicked Mac & Cheese. The original one is in the French area of Seoul but this one is easier to find. Very very good, but a bit pricy.

You can never go wrong with McDonald's and Burger King.

If you're willing to give Korean food a try, Kimbab chungook/ Kimbab Nara can never go wrong for me.
Those tuna kimbabs....

What kind of food are you looking for dude?

If you want hamburgers : Yaletown in Sinchon or Smokey Salloon (various branches) are good bets.
If you want pizza : you can just try a papa johns rather than Pizza hut/Mr.Pizza etc (which are catered to very korean tastes)
I know a whole bunch of good places to eat but give me some information :p

Choi's Tacos in Shinchon is one of my favourite mexican places, and Crow's nest in Itaewon do pretty good pizzas (and pretty big too)

If you're more interested in the korean food side of things I can help you out there

Lotteria's better than those two and even then it's bad.

The Canadians I work with like to go to Quiznos pretty regularly. I've had good american burgers in hongdae, itaewon and at yaletown in sinchon. Hard to find good non-korean/pseudo italian pizzas, best best is to search around Itaewon. Indian and Japanese are probably the best non-korean foods you can get easily in Korea outside of Itaewon. The Italian is generally pretty shit and the standard Chinese doesn't even remotely resemble Chinese food, basically jajangmyun and fried pork drowned in sauce.

man I don't know about that, Lotteria is pretty shitty, but I think Burger King/McDonalds is better. There's some decent Subways, more expensive for less food.

It's just a preference, they're all pretty much on the same level of shittiness.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!!
I mean Korean food is great, but it's not something i can handle daily after living in the states for 15+ years.

GTR - WIll try Yaletown!! Thanks!!! I haven't had popeyes yet, but was disappointed with KFC so hope it's better!

Chaggi - That actually sounds so great! Been dying for some cornbread....

Seeker - Thanks but no thanks Already tried it and >.<.... Idk but the burger meat here is worse than the burger meat back in the US... even if that's possible.

don_kyuhote - Nice name xDDD Looking specifically for american food suggesitons but thanks!

ShloobeR - Pretty much anything really! Been really craving for some good burgers and mexican food specifically, but I"m sure after I satisfy those cravings, it'll be pizzas and some good sandwiches. Would you say Choi's is better than Vatos? Also what would you recommend from Choi's? Also I'd love more suggestions! Really appreciate it!!

Scarecrow - I saw a quiznos near yeondae university but was in a cab and couldn't stop by it >.<... Also I kind of solved my italian cravings with Mad for Garlic hahahahahha. It's definitely not italian but their pasta aren't half bad! Also I realized jajangmyun is something that's so great when you're eating it but you regret after...

If you like sausages this might be an idea (I posted this in TLO's Week 1 in Korea blog):

Dario, if after a coupla months of kimchi you do get a craving for German-style food and/or German beer (or you want to show it to your fellow teammates), there is a small place called "Uncle Cho" (엉켈초) near subway station Yeongdeungpo-gu Office (영등포구청역, Exit 4, in side street 당산로32길, only four stops from GOM studio *wink*) that we found by accident while walking around. It's got a German flag on the front, you can order dark Köstritzer and other German and international beer brands there, and they have among other things a surprisingly delicious sausage meal (for 1 or 2 people): Various kinds of bratwurst- / weisswurst-style sausages chopped into pieces come piled up on a black iron pan with creamy mashed potatos on top under a metal lid. When served, the waitress takes off the lid, pours the slightly spicy, sizzling hot brown gravy on top of it and puts the lid back on to let it steam out and settle, after which it can be eaten with a fork or chopsticks. Really good.

Vatos is good but again, a bit more catered to Korean I think. You can try Dos Tacos, too, that's not too bad. There's Taco Bell in Itaewon too. I'd suggest most pub food from Itaewon as well - and Suji's is good for breakfast. If you have any friends on US Military bases, might be good to pop into one for authentic American.

Proseat - I wish I can go to those places, but I don't have any friends here and the age difference between my cousins and I are too big >.< Can't go to those places alone T_T

lilsusie - Yay you're the first person I hoped that would reply in this thread!!! (Of course thanks to everyone else but I feel lilsusie would know so much xD) I saw Taco bell in D-Cube right after I had lunch at the food court and was so saddened! Will try Dos Tacos too!!!! Thanks so much! Now only if Rekrul would see this thread....

Hm, how old are you? Legal drinking age in Korea is 19 (Korean age, add 1-2 years to your own).

Then again you don't have to order alcohol there. If you just want to eat there, I should think it is no problem?

I'm 22, I mean it seems like pubs and those kinds of places in korea, almost no one goes alone. Maybe I should just man up and go alone.

beef (esp good beef) is just too expensive in Korea

if you like Papa Johns though, I dunno why you can't just go to Pizza Hut? The weirdly sweet sauce of Papa Johns is the only thing I really find particularly notable about it in the states...

Also, Outback/TGIF/Whatever for baby back ribs
