3000 Posts & TeamLiquid

Alright so, it's almost been 2 years since I joined TeamLiquid.net (31 Dec 2010), and I'm glad that I have been part of this community. There are a few people that I would like to talk about, because these people have made my time here memorable, enjoyable, and even educational. I'm not sure how exactly I should go about completing this task, so I guess I'll just list people that pops into my head and write a little about them.

  • TheAmazombie

I think the first time I noticed him was when I made a picture blog of the views from my room. He posted a clip from the movie Smoke, and the clip intrigued me, so I downloaded the film and watched it. I sent him a PM and thanked him for introducing me to the film as I enjoyed it. He told me that it was one of the best "smooth" films of the 90s and that concluded my interactions with him for awhile.

The second most notable time we interacted was after I finished reading my first Vonnegut book - Breakfast of Champions. After reading BoC, Vonnegut became my favourite author because of how enjoyable I thought his writing was. I remembered that I had seen a Vonnegut thread on TL once, so I searched for it, made a post in it, and saw that Amazombie was the creator of it. We exchanged a couple of PMs about this fascinating writer, with him giving me suggestions on how to get started with reading Vonnegut as well as making the effort to introduce me to him as a writer. Oh and I forget - there was a blog where Amazombie and I were talking about the Beatles and our favourite albums and songs with a few other TLers.

  • OpticalShot

Throughout our various exchanges of PMs, I have come to see OpticalShot as some sort of big brother. He was always there to give me advice when I asked during the times I needed it. It was nice to read his opinion on SC2 and how the BW pros were switching over. Regrettably, there isn't much more for me to say about him.

  • Aerisky

Aerisky is by far the friendliest TL member I have come across. He's always been posting encouraging and nice comments in almost every thread. He's one of the guys I was able to confide in when I started hanging around in the #TL-ABL IRC. He's a good friend who has a busy and hectic life that I can relate to. Good luck with your college apps Aeri!

  • vGl-CoW

I've never talked to him before I started to loiter in the ABL IRC, and I regret not knowing him earlier. He's easily the funniest guy I know with his quick wit and shock humour that I find hilarious. He taught me to be sensitive, that misery was subjective, and not to scoff at others when I considered myself to be the model of misfortune. He gives excellent advice and is enjoyably down-to-earth. The first time I talked to him I thought that he was quite arrogant for he liked to claim that he was the best poster on TL, but I've learned that it was all in good humour (and that it's actually true).

  • mattorn

Also one of the guys I met in the ABL IRC. Initially I didn't appreciate his acerbic sense of humour and cocky attitude, but I realized that it's how he is. We talked on one occasion for a long time, and I got to learn about him and he got to learn about me. We complained about our complaints of our lives and I feel like of all the TL members I know, marttorn seems to be the most real. Sure, we disagree on some things, but I think he makes a good friend. I particularly like that he doesn't feel the need to tell white lies due to social obligations.

  • Shock710

He's a pretty nice guy in general, although his obsession with Naeun may get annoying with times, his company is always appreciated. Shock is probably the biggest SC2 nerd I know.

  • CreatorGX

CreatorGX is a fun person to be around. I'd like to thank him for watching my stream almost every time I do stream. He also made me a banner for my stream, which I am thankful for. Creator is my favourite ABL-er because of his affable disposition.

  • jaaaaasper

My most memorable time with jaz was when WCS Global Finals took place, where Comm was playing his first match. I cheered for China in the ABL IRC and jaz decided that he needed to chant "USA! USA! USA!" to bring equilibrium. I thought things got quite hilarious when everything devolved to us yelling at each other about how much the country we supported was terrible and was a third-world country and whatnot.

  • farvacola & sam!zdat

I feel like I need to put these two people together because it's impossible to talk about one of them without mentioning the other. I first met them when I created the TL Debates thread, and even though that disappeared, the two of them and Souma still hang around the TLdebate IRC. farva and samz have taught me a lot about literature and what it means to read. farvacola took the time to teach me about post-modernism, and I regret that I still do not fully understand what it means. However, I've been told by samz that nobody has a definite definition of it, so I'll just leave it at that.

samz also introduced and explained to me what New Criticism was with the help of farva. Without them I don't think I would be reading and looking at books the way I am now. As sappy as this seems to be, they've completely changed how I read and because of them I'm able to enjoy literature in a way I never would've imagined I would be. Conversing with them has ignited this spark within me that makes me eager to learn about the science behind the various forms of literature. It's the first time I've ever felt the hunger to learn and actively educate myself.

That's about it I guess. I really wish that I could write more, and that I can make my 3000th post better in some way, but I have no idea what I can do. I love all of you for being part of this community.

Cheers!

Woot! Thanks for the shout-out there Az! I am like you in that TL has become my internet home. I don't follow the games as much as I used to, but I still love the team and the site with a passion, still the only internet forum that I post to at all. I am glad that I could help and I am always up to talking Vonnegut and film. Keep it up bro, we love having you.

Edit: Also, that song you posted...sounds a lot like an old song by the band dredg. In fact, the guitar riff almost sounds sampled. I will have to listen to it more...listened more, not sampled, but a very similar feel to the early couple of dredg albums (Leitmotif and El Cielo).

I think this is the song that it reminds me of so much:

wow, thanks for the kind words! nice to see that other people recognize my excellence *looks over at wall full of glued-on gold stars that i give myself for every time i manage to fart without making a complete mess*

i think you're a bright kid, azera, and you'll do very well. growing up is a challenging and confusing thing, but you show an eagerness to learn and a willingness to seek out and accept other people's viewpoints and advice that i find commendable, and i think it'll get you far. cheers to you!

Thanks for the kind replies

Amazombie, I listened to the song, but can't find any similarities. Maybe it's because I'm too tired. I'll listen to it tomorrow.

No, you are right. They are not the same, but the riff sounds very much like an old dredg riff, and I am trying to find which song it specifically reminds me of. Similar feel to me though, but it might just be me. Haha.

Didn't see my name, voted 1.

I was having a great year, and now this. I don't know if I can recover. 2012 may go down as one of the lowest points of my life now. You really done messed it up.

No, thank you Azera! For hopeless English major types like Sam!zdat and I to have someone take an interest in having us attempt to explain stuff like Postmodernism is priceless and actually improves our understanding of the subject material as well. Cheers!

I've never contributed anything significant, nor was an amateur player, nor have we ever met, or conversed. So there is no reason why I would ever be mentioned. Even still: 1 star.
