Introduction
+ Show Spoiler +

Hi guys!

To my and hopefully your excitement, i created a list of the best 30 foreign players. As you may know, those lists are rly subjective. I try to look at achievements and latest results, but its unavoidable to get personal opinions into this.
There is no such thing as the perfect „ranking“, but i enjoy doing those, most ppl enjoy reading them, but not many ppl put rankings out there.
My ranking is purely about foreign players and i exclude asian, non korean players as well – that means you wont find chinese or taiwanese players in my ranking. The simple reason being: i dont have much information about these scenes. I obviously know that Sen, Xigua and others are great players, but its impossible to compare them to the players in EU and NA. So you could consider it a „Western Foreigner Top 30“.

I put quite some work into it and i hope i get at least some reads, since i think a ranking made by a random person should be posted as a blog and not as a thread in the general section, even though it might end up with no responses at all.

So here is the list for this month!

Um, why isn't Sen on that list? He is a non-Korean player as well.

read the introduction

I wont judge Taiwanese or Chinese players as long as they dont compete more regularly in major events. Sen would be a top 10 player most likely, but i see him in 2 or 3 events the whole year - thats a bit too little to judge him correctly, same with players like MacSed or Xigua.

Dont u worry, i dont think he isnt in the ranking skillwise.

Consider it a "Western Foreigner top 30"!

Good list. I would have put Suppy, Monchi, and Lowely higher though.

For the first time, I'm fine with the list, no complaints at all. I don't like to see HuK up there with his playstyle, but as long as it still works, you can't downgrade him.

Glad you got fraer where he deserves to be, good to see so many NA players on the list, some hope remains.

he played pretty well at mlg. (1-2 thestc in great games, 2-0 grubby, 1-2 babyknight)
he won the group of death @ BWC (roro, hero, stephano), just to lose to rain (1-3) in the bracket.

thats pretty scary, especially considering its IdrA and we know how good he CAN potentially be.

Also, without KiLLeR's very underwhelming performance where he lost 0-4 in a groupstage (i dont remember the tournament and cant find it right now...), he would be in the list of top 30 - he played very well at BWC

Nice to see EG players that aren't Stephano doing well again

This is really cool. I definitely would knit-pick on a couple of placements and do a tiny bit of shuffling but, overall, it's good I think. Hopefully you could make a monthly feature out of this, would be interesting for sure.

€: 2-0s Seed pretty convincingly^^

Nice to see you moved Huk and Nani up again .
And fraer! Despite his not too strong WCG.

I disagreed a lot with your last ranking, this seems much much better.
- Did Happy play any games in November? -6 seems a lot
- Idra a bit too high for winning 2 ZvZs against Stephano and Roro

On another note I think you have too many poll options. Most people will vote polarized anyways .

its ok if they vote polarized!
i just take the intersection (i hope i googled this word correctly^^) and it will be fine. 6x +3 and 4x -3? --> +1!

You are very lenient with terrans nowadays. Kas is the only one who has maintained any sort of consistency lately. Happy and DeMusliM aren't as successful as him.

Also I'm surprised at the absence of harstem. He had certainly more success than ToD recently. Where do you rank him ?

Kas didnt do anything in November honestly, he struggled a lot vs zerg (even more than others). Happy lost a lot of ranks. DeMusliM won a rank because of his NASL success.

Harstem "more success than ToD" - well, not rly. He plays a shitton of smaller tournaments and cups, yet doesnt manage to top anything of it or show anything very impressive. ToD is on the end of the spectrum of my ranking (45-50ish) - while he doesnt win a whole lot of matches, he competes vs the very best and occasionally wins maps. I highly doubt Harstem wouldve shown better results than ToD when playing IPL5 or tournaments in that region vs those top tier players.

Its pretty close between those 2 anyway, Harstem yet has to show major tournament results though.

Thanks for the feedback anyway

Really good list. The top 13 are imo very clear. Idra is howing good shape as well, and will probably start climbing the list if he keeps it up.

Good to see that you're finally being sensible with Happy's rank. tbh I'd probably put him even lower, as most of the guys below him has better offline results.

Glade's MLG success not enough to have him crack the top 30 (where he beat Major+Huk)?

I realise it's not a huge amount to go on, but TLO, SortOf, Nightend?

NightEnD is pretty consistent in major events honestly.
TLO had a huge upswing after his stay in korea, but recently, he didnt show too good results.
U will once again see how good SortOf is this weekend... he is probably underrated for how good he is hoenstly, but he didnt play big tournaments in the last few weeks to show it.

moonglade had pretty good results and i thought about placing him, but at this time, i couldnt drop anyone else out - and ppl seem to see Feast taking TLO's place over moonglade.
€: acutally, they want ViBe out, not TLO.

Personally Nerchio is to high this month, maybe drop him back 3-4 spots. Scarlett deserves the number two spot behind nani. Glad to see Idra back on the list, while I disagreed when he got removed from it I didn't really have the evidence to back it up as to why he should have been kept on there.

EDIT: There is something about Happy being that high I just don't agree with. Haven't really seen him do much. Can anyone expand onto this?

SortOf droping 7 places while qualifiyng for NASL Grand Finals? MaNa at -2, while winning ESWC? Lowely destroying MKP and Yonghwa and is behind Idra, Demuslim, NE, HuK,Suppy and Hasu? Scarlett in the top-3 but still whithout any actual tournament results (yes, I know, she beats Koreans x and y, but she does not actually earn placements.) Huk back at rank 15 for losing in the group stage of WCS, losing in the open bracket at MLG and getting knocked out at NASL? Vibe in as well, while getting knocked out at NASL, WCS groupstage winning only a single series at IPL and losing every series at MLG, while elfi and moonglade are still out?

I usually share your opinion, but this month seems a bit off IMHO.

hm thats strange, most ppl think the other way around.

SortOf dropped a lot because he didnt have any offline exposure and a few mediocre results besides qualifiying for nasl.
Watch the votes - ppl would even rank him below major (which isnt too surpising watching major qualifying for hsc6 quite impressivly).
mana won eswc - but after that, he had quite some losses against lesser players (zergs). Also, its not him dropping, its naniwa and especially scarlett (who showed off VERY well at ipl5... saying she has no results is bullshit) surpassing him.
lowely is debateable. i have to say that i dont admire his play too much and i might underrate him.
Also, he got dominated by suppy 3-1 at WCS. u might be right though, im a bit off considering lowely.

IMHO having results means getting does not mean, you beat good players in the early stages, but to actually make deep runs into tournaments (Otherwise you could name KnowMe for repedeatly beating Revival in Zotac Cups). And neither Scarlett nor Naniwa got a top-8 result in the last month (well Naniwa forfeited a ro16, but Polt probably was favored in this match). MaNa´s earned prices in the last month still doubles the combined amout of Scarlett and Nani, so I do really see, where they overtook him. And his only offline event after ESWC was Dreahack AFAIK, where he lost to Nerchio.

About Lowely; he plays weird, there is no questioning of that. But his style seems to work in some way, even against very good players. If you compare his run at WCG and Scarletts at IPL, he might actually have had harder opponents (Ryung [of who we can not know, whether he was hiding builds for his match against Sniper] is about even to MKP and Yonghwa is probably stronger than Nani atm.) Ofc. he also lost to Suppy at WCS, but Suppy had a pretty amazing run at that tourney, even nearly defeating Parting.

Edit: Actually Nani got top8 at DH, I forgot about that before.

When u play 50 Zotac cups, you can occasionally beat someone good, ye (knowme vs revival). Does it matter if u lose 19 out of 20? not rly. Then u see that revival plays online and at midnight time from korea to europe (terrible latency) and the win is completly worthless.
If you want a ranking where the pricemoney and the major tournament placements count, search somewhere else.

I watch who someone beat to get there.

Example:
50k prizepool tournament: Player A wins it by getting a very lucky grid and eventually cheesing out the favorite in the final
5k prizepool tournament: Player B makes it to Ro8 beating a top korean in impressive macrogames, just to barely lose 2-3 vs another korean.

Player A has the better placement in the bigger tournement, winning a shitton of prizemoney. Do i consider him a better player than Player B? No. Cause i acutally watched the games, i have a high understanding of what i see (which isnt the case with most of the ppl), i see who he was matched against. I can absolutly tell that Player B is the by far superior player.

This ranking is purely there to judge the _skill_ of a player. Tournament results are a great indicator for it, but u also have to understand to read it well.

Another example:
Ppl called out stephano for an incredible amount of time. He later on started to win tournaments, while he was already the + Show Spoiler +
best foreigner for months - he just showed it in online events that "didnt matter".
HuK on the other hand maintained good results after his great victories for a long period of time - those were influenced by undebatable bracketluck and a shitton of PvP - coinflip wins (dts or 4 gate most of the time).

AFAIK Knowme has actually a winning record vs. Revival (5-4 or smth.).

But what I am trying to say is, that Scarlett is is a bit like a foreign Curious, she has amazing results in the first few rounds of a tournament and then she gets eliminated. Take MLG for example: She defeated Bomber in macro-games (and HerO, but I don´t know how these games where, I did´nt see them), but than lost to Heart and Daisy. Same at IPL, she is able to defeat Ryung 2-0, but loses to Sleep in the next round. She can be a very good player at times, but on the other side, she never made it to the quarter finals of an international LAN tournament ever. I don´t know whether it is nerves or smth. else, but although she is able to knock tournament winning players, she does´nt seem to be one herself. And thus I can´t really see her being a top-3 foreigner either.

What I am not saying is, that you should look at results and results only. If you compare monchi and Scarlett for example; monchi has a killer instinct; if you give monchi a chance to become Iesf world champion, he will. He also had higher earnings than Scarlett in October, but that all did´nt change the fact, that she was ranked higher and she deserved to be ranked higher, because she simply seemed to be the better player (I think a few RSL matches should have been in this period of time, to indicate that).

However, there is a difference between monchi(sry if you read that monchi) and the kind of players, that are in the region, where Scarlett is right now; everyone around her in the ranking has shown, the he can beat Code-S koreans in a situation of insane pressure with a whole lot of money is on the line. I have yet to see this "eye of the tiger" in Scarlett as well. Maybe she can convince me at Iron Squid; I hope she does, cuase it sucks to argue against 90% of TL.

I guess, I am done know, I think I understood your point and I hope, I have made my point clear as well. Have a nice zweiten advent (No clue, how to translate that in english).

It's a nice list but I think it takes too long for some players to drop out or get in. How can Huk still be top30?

Still a great blog, keep it up!

Edit: XlorD should at least be on the following 20 list, he is better than most zergs listed there imo .
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

This list is very innaccurate, snute has shown himself to be top 5 ez, so has Xlord and naniwa hasnt shows brilliant results to award him 5th. and TLO has been playing really well, IMO this whole list is wrong, just dont have time 2 recreate it
