If you're a fan of BW, you should know by now of the terrible terrible news.
Blizzard has stepped in and forced Sonic to cancel the 7th SonicTV BJStarleague Finals, because he doesn't have a license to broadcast. It'll take at least two weeks for it a request to process, and maybe even longer than that to raise the funds for a BW broadcast license .......
Keep in mind, Sonic isn't exactly poor, being CEO of a rather (small, yet) successful company. If Nowcom (parent company of Afreeca, not a small company), who got a copyright notice regarding BW about the same license, is deciding to drop BW instead of paying the license .. well that's gotta be a pretty damn expensive license right?
All of Sonic's hopes, dreams and ambitions .. for the revival of Korean Broodwar, to share his passion, reigniting the passion and hopes of those who had thought it was gone .... has been dealt a crushing blow.
One can only imagine how he feels. If I, who spent only a fraction of the time on SSL compared to the staggering amount of time Sonic had invested, felt like my heart was ripped out .... how devastated does Sonic feel?
And yet ............................................
He pushes forward. Instead of blaming Blizzard, he blames only himself .. and decides to try to resolve things the official way. Despite the crushing blow.
I'm speechless ...
I had lost hope and fell into utter despair. I thought that all our efforts were in vain, and it was the end of what I had loved. But you, Sonic, Hwang Hyo Jin .. by your sheer strength of character, I have regained hope. I will continue believing in you, and I will trust that you'll find a way to make it work, despite any setbacks.

Why is Avrick's account locked? I don't see anything in his post history. Did he PM a ban request or something?
This is really annoying news, but hopefully it is just a small delay and something that Sonic can afford to pay. I didn't think Sonic was even making much money with this event, hardly enough to cover the cost of running it. I really thought Sonic would at least have to be on cable TV or something for Blizzard to care about him. I think it's pretty shameful to threaten a small fry like him who is one of the few keeping their old game alive.
Could they not even have let us complete one StarLeague without their bullshit? Could they not have chosen a better timing than a few days before the final? It never feels like you're dealing with humans when it comes to Blizzard. They don't respect anyone. They're the big dog with IP rights and money and they'll do what they want because they have the power right now. If it were a single, sensible human being, he'd have contacted Sonic and said they need to sort this out after the final. I wonder how their contract for BW differs from their one for SC2 ;p

What!! didn´t knew it, so bad really, blizzard wanting SC2 to dominate the market, hope it will work and League of Stupid won´t get number 1 in korea!!

I don't mean to pick an argument in ArvickHeros blog but we should be united by our love of competitive games instead of insulting LoL because we like Dota 2 more or insulting SC2 because we like BW more.
Didn't you ever read Harry Potter? We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.

Funny thing when I heard "our team is reaching out " I can imagine corporate guys in suit reaching out sonic with lots of contracts, agreements, etc more paperwork and if he doesn't do that permission will not be granted.

This pisses me off, Blizzard absolutely should have waited until after the finals to do this. Show some respect for people who are still passionate about a video game that you released more than 10 years ago--that's a rare thing.
Blizzard should be thankful to those fans, not bullying them. I was planning on preordering HOTS Thursday after I get paid but this does give me second thoughts. I don't know how I'll feel about it tomorrow (I'm not exactly organizing a boycott over this haha) but Blizzard should really think about their PR, and not just in South Korea.
