UCSD is OK. I"m busy. Real busy. In a good way.
I regret not trying that hard in high school. Everyone is like OMG YOURE SO SMART. I think a lot of it is I just finally figured out how to be organized and I started to put in more effort. Then again, the resources here are still excellent.
My suite is sort of crazy in terms of neglecting academic for drinking and smoking.
Food is shitty. I'm having to cook with a microwave to get enough calories, and to have any sort of healthy food. Today I decided to start a blog documenting it (to a certain degree modeled after http://neverseconds.blogspot.co.uk/ )
http://ucsddiningreality.wordpress.com
My roommate is a character but we get along all right.
I am sort of busy, and we haven't even had midterms or substantial problem sets yet, really. I probably can't do MUN because of the time commitment.
But now the part of the show everyone cares about
GIRL BLOG
So I've never been in a relationship or done anything remotely sexual. I'm god at talking to girls, in a talking sort of way. I hardly recognize what flirting is, to be hoenst. Anything sexual has seemed out of the question just because I'm generally confused about relationships. I haven't tried to be in a relationship substantially, but it would be nice to at least flirt a bit at this point, which I'm clueless at.
Exciting story of non excitingness follows,
Go into math lecture. Meet cute girl I'm sitting next to. Talk to her. Walk back with her. Easily obtain number. (Getting numbers is super easy for me). We have texted occasionally, she occasionally initiates. We don't say much of anything. Everyone just tells me "flirt" But I don't particularly know what to do. I havent seen her in a bit (we're both on campus but she lives over a mile away, and she skipped math lecture last time because its super easy right now)'
Our dialogues have been fairly superflous with many smileys and random little pokes at each other (small insults I guess you could say). She's nice and fairly cute. I wouldn't mind being friends, but if I wanted to progress the relationship wtf do I do in general
|
Froadac girl blog. Oh how the times pass.
|
flirting is talking and body language that signals that you're interested in her. so basically anything you say or do that is "teasing" her or referencing something sexual about you two (or her or yourself). you just gotta get more comfortable talking about sexual topics with girls.
btw your clear next step is to ask her to dinner and talk about more intimate things. go for it, it's fun to try new things
|
Holy crap. I just read your first blog entry about food prices and what you get for that... oO Thats a lot of money for not-so-great food
For your 5,50 for 2 slices of pizza with fries I could get a soup and chicken cordon bleu with potatoes and vegetables and still have a dollar left... (at least according to our menu for today and after consulting a €-to-$ converter :D )
Good luck on your quest to get enough (healthy) calories.

OMZG this is my problem. Numbers is easy i don't know y. However i suck ballz at flirting over text messages since i got a phone 2 months from the end of senior year in highschool and never had a Facebook.

I see you dropped your vowels on your way home, I hope you find them!
And to OP: Smoother than the pie guy. Take her to dinner!
|
never have heard the pie guy reference. and yes a crowded girl blog. sorta.
|
also I am getting salad and a entree and augmenting with other real foods.
|
Just ask her out already. Trying to sustain flirting for more than a week is the most energy draining thing ever. Well it is for me at least.
|
Damn those prices are ridiculous.
But hm, not sure what to say about flirting haha. A lot of it is backhanded compliments or body language/winky stuff basically you act interested, sort of playful and stuff I guess. Hard to describe ><
AlsoI'm god at talking to girls, in a talking sort of way. awww yeah ;D

This guy is the lowest ranked blogger on the site and has been posting a lot of reallly weird blogs lately lol. Just go through them, you'll see what I mean XD
|
food prices seem normal... i don't know where you guys went to college, but it's pretty typical for anything that takes any preparation to cost about $10 in and around college campuses. look for off campus options, although I doubt anything will be substantially cheaper, except something like burgers or pizzas
re: girls, are you sure they aren't just seeing you as a friend, and hence it's always been easy? best way to find out is to just ask them out... either to coffee or to dinner. dating is seriously so simple and straightforward in colleges
|
Ask her out to dinner! OR lunch if you want it to be less formal. Or maybe even coffee if you're suave. ESP if she's cute! :D

Since you go to UCSD, it's what, week 3? Which means midterms are about to start.
If you have a car, invite her to study together for your math midterm (+ other midterms) at this place. Amazing caramel apple cider once you've had your fill of coffee.
You don't HAVE to do that, of course, but it's a really cool place so I just recommend it. Really the next step is just to spend time with her one on one. When you're in the middle of a text conversation and you know she's not really doing anything, just slip this in: "Hey I want some froyo right now, wanna meet me at Yogurtworld?"
Then if things still go smoothly after like 1-3 meetings you just have to man up and kiss her, if you want to progress into a relationship.
|
I think asking someone out under the guise of studying together is the dumbest idea ever.
Coffee, brunch and dinner are the way to go, in order of formalness. Brunch being the best.
|

Heh, doesn't really sound like you're that into her, sounds like you're more fixated on the idea of "getting into a relationship". I used to have that perspective, it got me nowhere
I'd give you advice but I think the best method of dealing with relationships is learning by yourself and what works best for you! :D
|
Best thing you could do is stop trying to get into a relationship. It's that easy. You'll be in her pants in no time.
You can only play this game objectively if your a player. Therefore you can only be along for the ride and where it takes you.

I...think....you just ruined girl blogs for me. I think....that might be true... wow. That's the best girl blog advice i've ever seen.
I SUCK at flirting. It's just being playful. It's not sending emoticons. It's more like bringing a water pistol to math class and being like "You're under arrest baby, for bein' too groovey n fly!"

did you try my suggestion about switching cafeterias?
|
I am now much more grateful for my college's buffet style. If only I had taken advantage of that more for bulking...
My brother is in a similar situation except he's trying to cut so it works better with the amount food costs at major universities.
|
Oh Froadac, how much you've grown!
For food, here's what gets me through times where good food is hard to find and super expensive:
~$4 each, better if you buy in bulk (6 for $10 at costco/sams club), they are healthy and microwave up in ~4 minutes.
For the girl, the advice in here is mostly good. Stop trying to get a relationship. Hang out with her 1 on 1. When you get to the point that y'all are sitting together and she snuggles to be closer to you, put one hand on her chin and turn&lift so you gt the kiss (this also lets you back off/pretend you were seeing what color her eyes were/wanted to ask her a question if she starts to pull away). The most important thing is to do what comes naturally, and you'll be fine.
P.S. Study your ass off in college, especially in the first year - don't get yourself in a hole grades-wise!

@Cambium. yeah my worry is sort of that they all see me as a friend. also I really like this girl and the statement that I wouldn't mind her just being a friend is really a self lie to make me feel better about failure. I really like this girl in particular.

Yeah, the touching stuff doesn't come naturally, but I really do need to do it bad.

Triton Eye is an incredibly dangerous phenomenon. To counter it I literally mentally repeat to myself "She's ugly, she's ugly, she's ugly," every time I walk around campus and spot a chick.
I suggest you do the same, my friend. Luckily you have a support group right here for you on TL.

UIUC has buffet <3
ive eaten at SD's halls before and while they're good, charging for individual items is... D:
Glad you're having fun though. I know a few people our age going there so its nice to see another!
As for girls, get used to it! just keep talking and you'll figure out what to do. just remember dont date (steady) as a freshman

I recommend sleeping in and skipping breakfast that way if you're concerned about saving money. Salads are relatively cheap for lunch, and I remember OVT having shitty 3 dollar pasta that would fill me up and taste OK if I put enough pepper flakes on it. Every now and then, order some decent food to keep you sane.
Do this for one quarter or more and you'll have a huge excess for the rest, giving you the luxury of ordering food w/o a damn

I never heard of this Triton eye phenomenon, but it doesn't seem so bad. 9 out of 10 girls in San Diego are hot, but that 10th girl goes to UCSD...hahaha.

UCSD field trip to SDSU? The best way to battle Triton Eye is to periodically surround yourself with beautiful girls. Just make sure you don't touch them because I hear they have a pretty high STD rate.
Froadac are you using dining dollars for your food? You should cook for yourself whenever possible. Cheapest and healthiest way.

He doesn't have to go all the way to State to find that. Plenty of off-campus options in this town.

Well, I'm making breakfast at this poitn. Cream cheese, bagels, salsa, banana, milk, cereal, yogurt. I've got a ton of options.

Want to point out that at the end of the year you can end up buying stuff with dining dollars at the stores on campus. Typically however, you end up running out at the end of the second quarter.

awwww your innocence is so refreshing. :-) If you want to be with her, and she seems like she's into you, you gotta take the initiative! My suggestion: next time you're hanging out, hold her hand/put your hand on her thigh. See how she responds. Touching her shows her that you are really into her, moving beyond the flirty texting stage. If she seems to take it well, right before you leave invite her to coffee/brunch somewhere. She should say yes. Flash her a big grin and leave. Then try not to talk /text that evening. Make her anticipate.
That would work for me.
Good luck!
