60 Day Challenge: To push myself, because I'm lazy

My entire life I've been nothing but lazy. Lazy and indecisive. Ever since I can remember I would only do things I had to do, and do them quickly. If I didn't have to do it, I wouldn't. For the most part, anyway. I did extra curricular activities like the swim team, the track team, and I was a drama kid. I only did those because I enjoy it.

Even so, all the shit I did during those activities was half-assed. In swimming I'd purposely drift in the water, instead of pushing myself during training. While I ran track during practice, I ran the activities at 70%~ speed instead of giving it my all. During drama I would volunteer to sit out of scenes, just so I could watch from the seats. Needless to say I was pretty lazy.

Since I've graduated from high school, I've gotten more and more lazy. I'm in college going for a Digital media & Design degree, and I've gained a lot of weight. I don't do much other than go to school and work. I've gone from 175 pounds to 245. I don't look overweight, I look almost the same as i did 2 years ago. Maybe the fat has attached itself to my innards. I don't know. The one thing that's noticeable is that my face has gotten chubbier, and I can't stand it.

I began my 60 day challenge on October 1st, 2012, and will end Dec 1st.

The challenge:

- DO NOT SHAVE THE BEARD. I'm keeping my beard growing for 2 months during this challenge
- Go to the gym -EVERY- day. Run -atleast- 1 mile on the treadmill every day, and workout different muscle groups every other day.
-Play at least 15 games of starcraft 2 per day Monday-Friday. I work 30~ hours part time, and have 15 credit hours of classes every week. I'm being a bit lenient on myself.
-Play at least 40 games on Saturday, and Sunday.

Currently I'm 5 days strong with all of the above I've never gone to the gym for more than 2 consecutive days, I'm really proud of myself for this. As ridiculous as that sounds.

My goal is to lose weight, and to notice the difference in a 'before' and 'after' picture of my face. Hence keeping the beard until two months down the road, where I'll shave it.

The other goal is to play at least 155 games a week, to improve at the game. I never really played much, so when I started playing on the first of October, I was in bronze league. After having played 60~ games so far, I've been promoted three times! :D Currently sitting in platinum league at rank #1 in my division!

If you can get yourself working out then a lot of motivation comes from that. Good luck!

I've actually started to notice this. Not only do I feel better about myself for going to the gym, but I'm being a lot more active in my daily activities. It feels like I have a lot more energy now that I'm eating healthier and going to the gym. Not to mention only drinking water instead of loads of soda.

that's what people call "runner's high" (your brain release some kind of chemicals that makes you feel good when you exercise), and exercise in general makes your muscles more "stretched"? out, so you feels better in general, both physically and mentally.

It feels great, I can definitely notice a difference both mentally and physically.

Sounds like you're making a lot of great changes in your life. I don't know what you plan to do after the 60 days, but you should continue working out and keeping your diet clean. There's no negatives to living a healthier life. I strongly recommend you head over to the Health & Fitness subforum and check out the stickies. There's a lot you can learn about working out and nutrition.

Good luck and have fun!

After the 60 days (If I end up making it that far, heh) I'll probably limit myself to 4/5 days of running instead of the full 7 every week. Here I am completely unaware of the Health and Fitness subforum on TL, so thank you for pointing that out. I'm very interested in eating MUCH healthier than I am right now. Hah ^^;

I was at the book store on Monday and I picked up a book called Train Your Brain 60 Days to a Better Brain by Dr. Ryuta Kawashima. Basically it has a brief introduction to the book and why it will help and its two pages or simple math that you try to do as fast as you can and on the 7th day you do a memorization test and track your times on a card for 60 days. I recommend checking it out.

I'm glad I could help. Don't be afraid to post any questions you have in the forum. Anyone else that wants to make some healthy changes to their lifestyle should head over there too. :D

I wouldn't advise you to go to the gym every day. You need to have at least 1 day of rest and that's if you've been working out for a while now. If you haven't worked out for an extended period of time, not only are you going to be sore as heck, you should take it lightly, doing 3-4 days of workout instead of 7.

Nothing wrong with going to the gym every day if youre not doing extreme exercise
That's the 2nd time in a week I've seen someone sig a quote from this GD and I have never witnessed a sig quote happen in my TL history ever before. -Najda

What I've been doing to lessen the 'soreness' is skipping a day of lifting weights. I'm going to the gym every day and running on the treadmill, but I lift weights every other day that I'm there.
