The greatest mystery in the universe - no, not how to reconcile quantum mechanics with general relativity. Oh no, that is far too trivial of a question, with the solution existing somewhere in beautiful mathematical space.
Why do people generally 14 and below who are godawful at whatever game they are playing yet think they are the greatest shit since sliced bread put some variant of "xXx" before and after their names? i.e. xXxHeadShoTxXx
Somehow it's supposed to look cool to them, but screams "I suck I suck I suck I suck" to me whenever I see it. And unless it's some guy smurf trolling, the theory always applies. I daresay it is the most accurately tested theory in all of mankind. But it does not compute - damn thing doesn't even look good. Explanation please.

xXxSuPeRSNIppahKID26xXx ... its just kids have there shift key broken. but remember on xbox you cant have identical names like pc. so theres lots of mother fucking x's - that said, kids in general have generic names on shooters. theres that phase imo and then the adjective-noun which sometimes can be good but (DarkNinja etc etc) is bad. then theres lame o's like me who just think of a word that no ones thought of ^^

Well Headshot, Headshot1, and HeadshotDarkAbyss420 were taken so like... what are my options?

'x' / 'X' offer two sizes of four-way symmetry (this is a great argument!! but actually I think people would like some sort of left-right reflectional symmetry if they're gonna put the same thing at the beginning / end of their ID; see ] [ )
I guess 'o' / 'O' could work too, but that looks lame
oOoAznSnipeRoOo looks like they're bubbles; too girly for the average 14-year-old CoD player

Hmmm oOo looks strangely more pleasing.... symmetries.....

Because it looks xXxCoolxXx. Personally I prefer united states presidents over 12 year old names, but 12 year olds don't :D

Ah.... good name.
My name for annoying people in steam games is Juggalo[STRAIGHT-EDGE].
Really upsets people.
As to the xXx thing.... I don't know why they do it.

cause why not MLG| Xx Lord Ninja 420 xX sniper

Omg those xxx's annoy the crap out of me on Xbox. There are also plenty of repeat names I see with x's or numbers slapped onto the end like Prodigy, Quickscopes (or anything with scope in the name...), and some others that I regularly see all the time. 420 is the worst though. That's just about the dumbest thing you can put after your name.
+ Show Spoiler + I hope nobody on TL has 420 at the end of their name. In any case, if there is I haven't seen them yet.

It's a by-product of the mass of 12-14 year olds playing CoD online. They are reluctant to choose normal ID's. As long as they stay away from TL (generally 13 year olds don't stay around, anyway) I don't mind it; I never played CoD (or any other game generally populated by adolescents) anyway.
Edit: In response to epishade: recently I saw a PBU (Previously Banned User) called NIGGERCANCER420. I don't think he had much going for him anyway.

Man, you can't just have xXx, you gotta have your elite clan tag in there too!
Like: xXx.MEGA-KILL.xXx[KTD~~]
|
They are really straight edge, and dont forget to put MLG and v2 in there!

Oh yeah, I actually remember seeing that guy in the ABL. Lol that's gotta be the worst name in the history of bad names.

If all of them put the xXx before and after their name, does't it make it "normal"?
Wouldn't that mean they have a reluctance to be unique?
They don't have any creativity, so they see what everyone else does and just copy it. That's my hypothesis.

I've had names like xXFangXx, wildfang and rampantfang. But I've settled on the handle "RampagE" or "rampagE", which I picked up in my Cod4 years. Thank goodness for free BNet name changes ;D.

I have never understood it. In Halo everyone would also put MLG or MLGpro in their name, as if that suddenly made them better players.
If anyone knows GunZ and played it for a while there was this craze with adjective/noun names. People would actually buy/sell original names. I sold the name 'Focal' for 5 bucks and was offered $10 for 'Aquatic' but it was my main character (given by a friend) and a pretty high level lol
GunZ ahhhh, good times. Such a fun shooter fast paced shooter. I spent so many days perfecting k-style and leading your shots.

There was this guy on XBL who had his gamertag as MaZterChiefZ

I've always hated it. I try my best to do a name with proper English. Also people who do 420, 69 or 666 in their name just makes me think "either they have NO idea what that means and it seemed cool, or they know what it means and think it makes them cool. Either way, it's stupid. I Have 2-3 aliases that I use, this one is almost NEVER used, if it is, I change the second "e" to an "i" and done. That's what I did on XBL.
As for GunZ, that was an interesting, but easy game. Assault rifle or dual pistols, and a sword. Mix between Kstyle and shooting threw most higher tier players off.
