I should probably introduce you guys to my background just a bit...
I'm a gamer who seems to have a lost sense of identity. All of my friends are Chinese, I speak Chinese very well, if I wanted to, I could study in a Chinese University. Earlier today I was using an app for my windows phone called 威信， lesser known in English as WeChat...
I was minding my own business, eating dinner with my friends, and I got a voice message from this (lets assume for now, a female), in Chinese. I thought her accent was particularly strange, and so did my friend from Beijing and Chongqing. Checking the person's profile, I came to the conclusion that this was at least someone in the U.S. and someone that was able to speak Chinese, both Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as Viet. Checking her profile on Wechat, I saw that her cover photo was an anime character instead of a real photo like normal human beings use.
I must say, this girl was particularly "flirty", if you will, using tons of smilies and emotes.
Being familiar with the minority ethnic groups that are popular in my area, I was able to guess that maybe this girl (again assuming she is, in fact, female) was Viet. I heard tons of voice messages from her end of the phone, some with background noise, some without, and after a while I just assumed she was out with friends.
Other oddities: She tells me she's 23, this is after I tell her I am 23, her voice makes her pass off as slightly younger, in my opinion. I give her my facebook, she doesn't want to add me. Actually, she just altogether flat-out told me that she can't find me on facebook. Then finally, I ask her if she has a real photo of herself. She says she doesn't have one. Then I ask her if she has QQ, MSN, or Yahoo. She says she doesn't like using those...
Then she starts asking me these weird questions after she says she wants to get coffee with me sometime. "Are you alone?" "Do you live alone?" "Do you live close to the dorms?"
This is a little creepy... basically I terminated our dialogue at that exact moment. In all honesty, I must say the following:
If someone is asking you these kinds of questions, presenting inconsistencies such as being a 23 year old college socialite and not having facebook, not being willing to actually put forth some effort to actually get yourself a date, then something is wrong.
Should I get a guard dog? something felt utterly creepy about all this...
Perhaps you should meet "her" in an extremely public area, preferably one that has a security or police force, at a time that would give you atleast two hours of daylight if you are interested in testing the waters of this.
honestly i say you should go for it, she did send you a lot of smileys.. that's pretty hard to come by nowadays.. maybe she's just a really cute introvert.
If the voice is female then it is probably an ugly/fat/old girl/lady looking for some love. Or a scam to score tickets to an airport somewhere. You should run 100 miles in the opposite direction from this.
I'd be careful. Although if this girl is from mainland China then not having facebook shouldn't be considered that weird. You can't properly access and use facebook in China. But not having any other social media means like QQ or MSN definitely IS weird. Asian people are usually so much more into this communication stuff :D
Why not meet in a coffee shop or something? I don't think he or she would be able to do much to you there in a place with a lot of people. If things start to get weird, just leave. And if it turns out she's actually into you, then all the better.
"Are you alone?" and "Do you live alone?" might be incredibly awkwardly phrased ways to ask if you're single and whether you're living with your parents.
I say meet in a (very) public place and nothing bad can happen. Though I have a hunch she won't show

That's really creepy man, it's good that you picked up on things like how she only gave her age after you gave her yours. I don't understand how WeChat works, but I think it's weird when people try to meet other people on chat programs or facebook or whatever. That's what dating sites are for, I'd suggest not giving out any information you wouldn't display on a public profile on a dating site.

Wise advice. Better safe than sorry. It's a little boring way to live, but at least you don't get majorly screwed over. And it's a little weird that a 23 year old female wouldn't have at least 1 picture of herself somewhere. Either she's very insecure about her looks, or it's a scam.

Blocked the girl on "We chat" a long time ago (at the time of the OP), and never talked to her since then. To the best of my knowledge I've never run across her either.
The really creepy part is, she has my face. I don't know who the fuck to look for when I'm watching my back now.
But, insofar, you could say this is two months with no incidents to speak of. It doesn't bother me too much because I'm way too busy to hold still in one place. Adding to that, I can tell when I'm being followed.
