Edit: Important to note tough: I have absolutely nothing against people who post what they do in real life on facebook. They are actually using facebook as it is supposed to be used.
I always was one of those that were fascinated with the idea that, because of facebook, we will be able to see each other growup. One might start a family, one might have a divorce, one might travel the world and so on. Even if it was a friend I only had temporary, I would always be able to follow him trough his life.
Creepy or not, let´s just say I had a fascination with facebook, as many others.
I am part of the majority that has it as a habit of opening it up and to log on when I begin my computer session.
Check what´s happening, who´s online, and whatnot.
But since the beginning of last week...
I just don´t care
Not as in: OH look everyone, I am removing my facebook account, because I don´t caareeee.
But more that I have lost interest in it... Like how I have lost interest in other gadgets, or how I lost interest in a tv serie, or a book serie, or games.
I just don´t care anymore
I see myself barely logging in anymore, and I used to be quite anxious of what I had on my wall, as I wanted it to look interesting and fun. And funny enough, the last entrances could be seen as quite underwhelming (not many likes, awkward conversations for people not being my peers).
But I didn´t just care; I could have left very interesting last entrances (Have photos from a great vacation and a party - you get my drift)
I find no interest in checking whose online, I have thought of deleting my account, but I must have it to contact some people (Business related). But that´s about it.
I understand how myspace, and all the other hot ¨social¨ sites could have died out. Must have seen unthinkable at the time, that they would just die out.
But it really: People come as fast as people go, if a big part of the flock leaves, so will the rest of the herd.
So where do I stand after this little nugget change?
Actually, I feel relieved.
I feel like a better person, like I don´t have to care anymore. Before I had been anxious because I didn´t care enough that I didn´t care about facebook.
And I guess I didn´t find anything interesting there, even tough my feed was quite eventful, it wasn´t interesting.
There was no fun in it, only a fake veil of responsibility. And it made me miss my friends, even if they were right there.
I wonder if I will come back?

I joined but I have used it maybe 10 times in 5 years.

I don't really care about this blog

I don't really care about anything

Whoa reddit guys... O_o
Facebook has its purposes but you have to see it for what it is: An easy tool to keep in contact with people that you really don't want to keep contact with on a day to day basis. Like you old high school class, your old wow guild or what not. When you realize this you can use it for what it is and not a "I want to see what everyone is doing"-site.

used it to get in touch with a girl i liked..she didnt like me back....no more facebook :D
|
Facebook is kind of boring. All I use it for today is organising various things because I don't have that persons phone number
|
Same goes for ladder ranking I suppose. Generates anticipation, expectation and a lot of useless stress and anxiety (depending on what you're personality is, obviously) and at some point you just feel like quitting, or just "not caring anymore" about it.

Yep, me neither, and you wouldn't believe the amount of shit I've gotten over the years for it. "What do you mean you don't have a faaacebook? Everybody does! Whare, are you socially retarded or something?" The interesting thing is, I actually am. Haha
|
I use it for keeping up with school. Quite good for that (especially university) and talking to the odd person or two using the chat. Aside from those, I don't really use it
|
Oh my friend completed another quiz and wants me to do it too?
|
i need it to talk to my friends since Aim became secondary nowadays lol i dont like texting/calling really
i havent touched any of the apps on facebook really.. i used a few to freeload stuff like Tristana + skin for LoL and some extra gold for Tribes hehe but are they really considered apps
|
The only reason I have one these days is because the student groups that I am a part of at my uni have their own user-groups/pages that are useful for trading used books and organizing events. Surely there might be other ways to organize that kind of stuff, but since most of the people in the groups use fb anyway it is more convenient I suppose.

and another of the ranks joins!
Seriously, fuck facebook. If somebody wants to talk to me they can call me, or find me.

Love the first bunch of responses to this XD.
Well don't worry it looks like you're not alone. Facebook seems like its mostly an addictive waste of time combing through thousands of photo albums, I don't think you really need to use it most of the time. I guess I managed to get some entertainment out of poking people though...and then never used it again.

I really hate Facebook too, but with my job where everyone moves around a lot, it is an easy way to get in touch with old friends. I really do want to just delete mine because I get angry whenever people post stupid memes on my wall or try to tag me in some dumb picture I'm not even in.

For me atleast....this is the only use for facebook , I keep getting asked why I dont ever come online, accept requests etc...dont know. Just not bothered.
|
I used facebook a lot my first two years in college to broaden my circle of friends. Now the only times I log in are when my wife tells me she's posted something on my wall (timeline? whatever it's called now) that I am somehow obligated to respond to.
I can see the appeal for someone who would otherwise have trouble keeping tabs on a large number of friends, but I have no desire to keep a wide circle of friends. The few people I do want to keep in touch with, I call or email, and they do the same.
|
Facebook would be nice if it wasn't clogged with apps, people sending you app requests, and in general people posting stupid crap.
I like to use it to communicate with friends that also use it and share things with friends a bit more personally. I also use a slew of different communication programs anyway, so FB is just a tool to me. Once my friends stop using it, so will I.
|
Facebook = ICQ (or MIRC/Skype) or whatever you used to keep contact with people...
Why i use Facebook? Next to everyone is actually on there, unlike on ICQ .

The people who give the least fucks are obviously the ones who publicize to the world that they give the least fucks.

*I am taking it in like you are not directing this directly to me, as you read the whole thing*
Please elaborate your thoughts on this somewhat popular statement, I for one cannot really take people who hate on people who post things on facebook seriously, as I know they will probably spend their day masturbating or doing mundane things.
There is absolutely no reason to not share what you are doing besides privacy. Sharing sparks further social engagement.
''Oh hey you were at Olive Garden? Cool I was there last week'' ''Yeah I love it, it really... blablabla''
I find the people who downplay those who share things on facebook and create this culture where it should be shunned upon to engage in such activities on facebook.

Ahahahaha I felt the same way... what is with the obsession with poking people and why can I not ignore them?

You care enough about not caring that you need to share with the world. Typical Facebook users.
|
I never did the whole facebook or twitter thing. My sister is all into it that was enough for me not to be. I like forums and texting for my bits and bytes communications.

No, you haven't read the whole thing.
I am really interested in this reaction, it is a very popular reaction statement. Do you believe it holds truth? You say it, yet have so much apathy that you didn´t even read the whole paragraph, how come? You cared about not caring, which would be by your stigma ´´typical facebook users´´, you classify yourself as that. These reactions are what fascinates me with facebook; the ´´anti facebook*´´ culture.
*The social aspect of facebook, privacy issues is a different matter.
