I just started college a few days ago, and I have already noticed that more and more I have been pulling in lessons that I have learned from StarCraft and applying them to other situations. I have noticed that it is beginning to help me get ahead in life.

I went golfing just before school started and I hit roughly 130 on what I think was par 71 course. I did terrible. However I was able to get on the green all but twice, which is an improvement over previous years attempts where I didn't even make it that far. That it was my overarching concepts and skills that were failing me and that I was not able to make it onto the green. I had decided to focus on just the act of getting there and not worrying about the par for the hole or the course. Sure enough just like in StarCraft, once I began to focus on the core gameplay element; I made it there and made an improvement on my score at the same time. Meanwhile what was running though my head was a simple mantra: "Work on your macro."

However that is not what made me write this blog. I was going to just let this sit in my mind as something that was just an odd coincidence, a piece of information that I would pull up when I needed a good kick in the pants to motivate myself to work. However, I couldn't when I read in my English book that the authors go on to explain that I as an entering college freshman, my macro sucks... at writing. (actual terms used in the book). Then they proceeded to give an overview of the macro of writing.

I can't seem to escape these words be them actually on a piece of paper, in a book or in the back of my head while trying to unwind, or on this website and many of the related videos that I have found. It has caused me to take a look at the macro that I have set my life upon and realized that I need some changes.

And its thanks to you all here at TeamLiquid drilling that my macro sucks while I play StarCraft that I have come to realize that there is more to the saying then about a game, that its the beginning of a thought process that helps people actually live. (Even if that was never the intention, and all you people who are in the higher end of the SC2 ranks like poking at us lowly people.)

edit: I realized that its not good to post drafts as finished copies of a work and have gone through to flesh out said ideas. Also went through and fixed most the grammar and punctuation errors that were present. Thanks AndWhy.

edit: fixed par for the course I was on.

Micen, please take this opportunity of writing a blog to practice your "writing macro." Remember especially to build punctuation marks consistently. Also, don't forget that a nice sentence layout will help you defend against late-game drops by tired TAs. Finally, when training your words, be certain that you hit the correct hotkeys: for example, you trained a "whom" in the final sentence, but I think a "who" would be a much better addition to your composition.

Cheers, and best of luck!

P.S. Sorry about your luck in going to college. Try to find some good friends to make your first year more bearable, but please, for your own sake, don't try to find them at college parties, which too often turn Bacchanalian and are very often forgotten (or unmemorable).

Edit: Poor infinitive splitting on my part.

I had just gotten done reading my assignment, I just needed to put it down and in my infinite wisdom decided, without rereading it that it was done. Things should be better now. Thanks for the aptly written advice.

Don't forget micro, positioning, fakes/misdirections, scouting, and mindgames.

And some other assorted oddities that are useful. Write like Yoda speaks you must.

There's no shame is shooting 130. I'll wager that there isn't a single par 79 course on earth though.

You shot a 130 eh? How did you do on the back nine?

Lol no serisouly I would be raging if I had to play behind you putting up a snowman on every hole.
A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

Pardon me its a Par 71. I couldn't find the information last night but found it today. Ill go through and edit it. Also, there were like 7 people on the course that day so I had no one behind me. The joys of going to a local course midday on a weekday.
