It has always been my pride to be a starcraft player, I have always spent more time playing other games though sometimes I go on a sc2 spree, endless starcraft action. Note that even though I play more other games, I spend more time in Sc2. Analising replays, watching day9, state of the game, inside the game, etc.

I sometimes play DotA style games because for me they are stress relieving. And its hard to do stuff as do an all-nighter in sc2 because I get really exhausted and sweaty because I'm at the edge of my seat trying to beat the opponent and its really exhausting.

I have always been imo a "starcraft player". Whats your hobby? Ohh I play starcraft (instead of, I play computer games)
Recently I have been playing other games. And this thing goes into my head as it always does "I haven't played a ladder in three days!" So I actually feel really bad because my rank and league means a lot to me. (Don't mention MMR, I know what it is, I know... don't care...)

But Its not ladder anxiety/phobia. Its just, I don't feel like playing, but I really want to want to play because I love starcraft. My starcraft life is really hanging on threads right now, because I want to stay in diamond, and because of day9 and other sc2 chat shows etc... But day9's daily is getting kind off boring to me I really just watch funday monday cause its fun to watch him goof around...

What can I do to... Revive (didn't find a word)... Revive my sc2 love... Because I want to like it....

Pretty much in the same situation. The only thing you can really do is force yourself to play. Just make set times a day for playing and set yourself small goals for every ladder session like "today I want to use up all my bonus pool" or "today I complete the x win achievement". Eventually it should become a habit and you won't have to force yourself anymore.

Yeah, its what I'm already doing.... I should have also included in my original post that I really want to keep my sc2 skills... Its something I have harvested after a long time of sc2 gaming and I don't want to lose it if I ever feel the sc2 groove again...

But setting something like "when I leave I will have atleast 20 bonus pool seems like an interesting idea...

Well as I said, just force yourself to play a set number of games per day. You literally can't go wrong with that. Your play will improve and thus your league and MMR as a result.

If I would do the above while not being motivated I would probably go like 2-10 so I'm curious if it will tilt you or not.

It doesn't matter. If he goes 2-10 and tilts then so be it. It's about getting into the habit of playing a lot, that's what he wants.

take a break. It's the same for me from time to time. After some time I just feel it again, mostly while watching some nice proplay, and go with it...

You need a goal. Try to improve your mechanics and get to masters.

Check your apm (not on a replay, on a site like drop.sc) after every game and keep macro and ladder grinding like a boss until you get to 250 Watching yourself get faster is a good motivator.

Its fun... And I really like starcraft... But I have sinked so much time into it that its hard to just let go...

Its just that the motivation and the thirst to improve and play is gone... This is my head... "hmmm... I'm bored... Lets just play some game... starcraft 2?.... nahhh don't feel like it... lets just play some dota/lol/bf3/diablo3" etc.

There is no I want to take a ladder so badly after work!

But I think the game is fun... but... hard to describe....

I think what you mean is that you find SC2 mentally exhausting. Because you prefer to relax after work, you play other games that aren't as demanding. Like Fishgle said, don't play if you don't enjoy it, but if you really do want to play, you need to have some discipline and make playing sc2 on a daily basis a routine.

I like to play games that are hard, and don't take up too much time in the day. SC2 is definitely the go-to game. 10 - 20 minutes a game in average, and every game could be different, and you can do it on your own. Compared to D3, it is not as grindy (unless you are doing like grinding 1000 wins in bronze league), and not requiring teammates or taking as much time each game compared to dota 2 (I really don't like playing team games with ppl i don't know, and a dota 2 game is very long, like 35 - 60 minutes most of the time). If you really don't want to play, just set up a goal, and play maybe 1 win a day, or play till your bonus pool is gone, etc. It is only going to be about 1 hour of your time and you won't feel rusty if you do that.

I had a huge losing streak 2 weeks ago (18 losses in 20 games), that really made me not want to play the game anymore, so I picked up dota 2 and diablo 3 in the past 2 weeks. However, these 2 games really makes me irritated for various reasons (dota 2 there is too much game knowledge to learn, other than mechanics such as last-hitting; diablo 3 is just endless grinding action, after playing thru the plot, I don't have much motivation to play anymore). At least I found what I like at the bottom of my heart tho. SC2 gogogogogo!

Try to play like 3-5 games a day to get yourself playing. Once i start playing I usually can play for 3-5 hours, but sometimes it is hard to start because there are other games that are easier and more chill and more fun than sc 2.

I have a similar issue, which I have dubbed "Ladder Apathy." Like ladder anxiety, just a different emotion. I want to get better so badly (secret dreams of me being up in the booth someday, the fan favorite), but when I think about having to sit there and hardcore concentrate for potentially an hour, I always just kind of groan, open up the custom games page, and join a match of SFE. That or LoL. I love how non-focused you can be and still do well in MOBA's. Zone out every time you back, it's all good. Zone out while you last hit, it's all good. Zone out/spam QWER during teamfights, it's all good. Starcraft, on the other hand, requires Adderall levels of concentration to win.

Despite this block, I am reaching GM. Eventually.

Don't play. Then, when you actually want to play, play! I'm finding right now that I don't really want to play. Does that mean I'm not as passionate as last month when I wanted to play? Course not, I'm still watching games and posting etc, just at this specific moment I don't feel like laddering. So I go and play UMvC3, and next month, I'm sure I'll want to ladder again.

It's on and off for me, when I start doing new styles in the matchups I got in a playing spree and then I stop. Never go too mcuh without playing or your skills will deteriorate. Most I went without playing at least 20 games was a month, after the 20 games I was with my mechanics the way they were, what I had lost more was game-sense.

I feel there is something wrong with that statement. If you have to force yourself to queue games, then maybe its not as enjoyable as it should be. If I had to force myself to queue games, I would probably quit playing.

Yeah, if you dont like playing dont force yourself to play. Unless you want to play but get nervous in which case the only cure is more cow-games., More games.

Got the same problem, I switched races, I was having a problem like you,
OMG I really want to play SC2, I'll start playing as protoss, then It starts getting boring
So what I did was switch to zerg since I know how to play that race, then I got the same problem with zerg and terran, now I'll play random and have no problems :D

I don't think it's wrong. I often don't feel like starting a ladder game because I tell myself "ah i dont want to face retarded cheeses", "i dont want to get frustrated/tilted" "its stressful". So yes, sometimes I need to force myself a bit to hit that Find Match button. But once I got that behind me my fighting spirit awakens as I play and I gladly play more.

Frustration or stress from ladder is all imposed by you. When you queue up, all it does is match you with someone else who it thinks is similar to your experience so you can play a game together. There is no pressure or stress there.

I ladder to improve and for the fun of games.

Seriously, someone should write a book about sc2 player psychology.

I often have to urge myself to hit that ladder button the first time, but after that it comes easy. You get that fighting spirit going and that love of competition. If you succeed its easy to do it again, and if you lose your hurt pride can often coax you into another game also.

One thing you have to also remember is, due to the lowered number of sheer players in the ladder, what we have left behind is a pool of all very good players, stretched across the leagues.

This is a prime reason why suddenly things are much harder than they used to be. This is another reason why you have fallen into a lower league as well. There are literally tons of guys I know(including myself) who were diamond in season 1, but now struggle to get out of plat. It's hell.
