Pretty much I have a few questions about renting a hotel, next Friday is my graduation, and we just had my girlfriends graduation yesterday night, and I just want to make it special. Spending $80 per person on a graduation isn't my thing, I'd much rather enjoy it with the love of my life, and have a special time together. And after grad for us isn't all too special, people get wasted, dance... We do that most weekends; except without the nice clothes, so an after-grad does not seem appealing to me, and the food at grad yesterday was pretty raw chicken, so I think we can manage without that.
First off I am 17, and I don't have a credit card, but I talked to a close friend and he is willing to pay with his credit card and I will pay him in cash. He trusts me enough to know I wont trash the hotel and have a huge charged tacked to my bill; and his credit card.
I live in Calgary, and the plan for the night is to go to a live theater show, after that we will go to the Calgary Tower for dinner, I know the food is overpriced there, but my lady loves the views, so it'll be worth it. After that we were talking about renting a hotel for who knows how long, even if it's in Calgary, it's just an experience we want to have together... no more sleeping together with your parents on the floor above you.
So I'm looking for general tips for hotel finding, or if you're familiar with Calgary some recommendations, it needs to be in downtown, having a pool would be nice. I'm willing to pay about $175, but I'd much prefer it to be around the $150 mark. I'm not really sure what sites are good to use to find hotels, where to find good deals, or how to find good deals, it's pretty last minute now too, so I don't expect some crazy good bargain. And just checking that this is all feasible really, there aren't any complications I'm missing? Honestly I just think I'm very nervous that something will go wrong, and I want us to have the best time possible, so experience from others would be really appreciated.

Several 4star hotels that fit in or below your budget of $150.
My choice would be the Fairmont Palliser just based off the pictures. But I don't know anything about Calgary.

1. Be sure to check and see if there is an age restriction. Most hotels limit reservations to be made by those at least 18 (or 21) here in the States.
2. How will the credit card payment work? Usually when you rent hotels, you reserve with the card whenever online, but pay when you arrive. It might be a problem if they ID you when it comes time to present the credit card.

It says for guest details you need to be 18+. So would my friend be able to do the stuff with his details, but we would be the ones there?

No, that might be a problem.
Reservations online don't really do much other than hold a spot for you when you arrive. You don't technically pay until you actually check in at the hotel, so you will have to eventully present your friend's credit card in person . You might get lucky if they don't ask for your ID, but usually they'll do so. They might ask anyway to check to see if you're 18+ anyway if you look young. So you may get hit on both fronts of not being the owner of your friend's credit card and being under 18.
Unless you can find a hotel where you don't need to be over 18, it might be best to have your friend go with you. Given that you're just renting a place in the city, I'm assuming your friend is in the city too. He can present the credit card and be the guy 18+. Then you can have him leave a bit later and pull in your girlfriend instead. Or he and your girlfriend can go up first (so it doesn't look a bit weird with two guys going into a single bed room), then you can go up and switch out immediately.
But otherwise, you'll be taking a chance. If you reserve with his card, you're likely to get hit when asked for ID. If you decide to just drop by any hotel on grad day with cash, you'll probably get hit again with ID due to the age restriction. Unless you want to go to a cheap motel where they don't really care who the guests are, I'd just have your friend do you another favor and go to the hotel w/ you so you can get in. That's probably safest and surest way to get a room in a nice hotel.

Sorry I stopped replying here, but I finally managed to do it. Renting a room for someone under 18 is insanely difficult, I'm glad I could make it work!
