We Understand Each Other
Sometimes, across the deep blackness of battle.net, we can see each other. Sometimes, through the infinite silence of bright screens in dark rooms, we hear each other. Sometimes, in the confines of a ladder game, we know each other.
Sometimes it's because you're also a Terran player. We share a common bond of fighting the same battles. Though we clash in the glorious combat of TvT, we think it the greatest of mirror matchups. Though we fight with cheese or macro or banshee rush, we are both Terran and in that we find solace.
That's how I know what's up when I say: I can feel your pain. I can feel the fire burning low in the souls of my fellow Terrans. When I see another Terran, we meet as starved travelers in a desert of Zerg and Protoss. When we touch hands, that empathy that pulses through us channels your rage and anger.
Sometimes it's as simple as an all in. Maybe you're 1-1-1ing me. You don't have time for a long game. You don't have time for a standard game. You don't have time for anything any more. You've had the faith seared out of you by the harsh reality of the ladder. All that's left is a dry husk of a player, all-inning over and over again, trying to squeeze quick wins out of his terran comrades.
But even in these dark moments, there is light. Even in these harshest conditions, as armies clash and cheese is presented, there is a moment of understanding.
You see, even in the fury of emotion and frustration that is the TvT allin, there is hope. There is understanding. TvT is not just any mirror matchup-- it is the most noble the world has ever known. It was the first macro matchup, in a sense, and I feel that it will always be this way. Whether it be the tanks or the maps or the state of terrans, there was always a sense of epic scale to TvT.
Even when being all-inned.
Sometimes, though, I have doubts. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I am alone. Maybe these all-ins aren't the shrieks of a tormented soul, but the maniacal laughter of a villain.
But the message, with whatever baggage it has, makes its way across, pushes through.
Maybe that's just TvT. Maybe we understand each other.
Maybe this is something we've meant to do.
