With MLG Columbus coming up soon, I figured I’d share a little story.
Let’s rewind a bit to November 2011. It is MLG Providence time, the last tournament of MLG’s pro circuit for 2011. Players from all over the world have travelled long and far to compete in Providence, Rhode Island (a coooold place to hold a tournament in November ).
Anyway, as I am waiting for my station to open up to play my second round match, I am with my 3 man posse trying to pass the time, while my nerves are increasing and my hands are getting colder by the second. At this point, it becomes very clear to me why it is so popular in Korea to use hand warmers in between sets. My friend takes my hands in his, and starts breathing warmly to try and heat them up. Kennigit, being the Team Liquid pro man that he is, was carrying a bunch of hand warmers for his team should any player need a refuel. He passes by this little scene of me getting my hands warmed up by my friend, laughs, and tosses me a hand warmer.
From there, I go on to win the rest of my matches that night in the winner’s bracket, always clenching my hand warmer to ensure that my hands will not freeze up. By the power of the gods, what has Sir Kennigit bestowed upon me?! This was no ordinary object, it was a hand warmer of the gosus I’ll tell you. Friday night after the tournament, I went out and purchased some hand warmers of my own. Unfortuantely I forgot to read the gosu-level on the back, and realized that they were of much lesser level than Kennigit’s. I was knocked out of the tournament later that night. However, upon seeing Kennigit at the Twitch.tv after party on Championship Sunday, I made it a point to tell him that his hand warmers gave me the strength to battle through the black hole that is the MLG Open Bracket, and ALMOST emerge victorious and plant myself in the Championship Bracket.
Gracias to you Sir Kennigit
Tl;dr Always accept a hand warmer from Kennigit, it will do you good things.
