This week I at a look at how I built the set I used for the interview I did with Carmac interview I did with Carmac. I discuss exactly how I built the set, the materials I used and discuss what I liked and disliked about my choices.
When i decided to build the set my goal was to build it for under $30. It is easy to drop a few hundred bucks on some fancy lighting and backdrops but, to me, that is not very useful when my goal is to show that anyone can increase their production value. the set I built actually ended up costing me zero dollars
I used a site called Blockposters.com to create a printable large format poster of a photo I found on the IE flickr page. I used my laser printer (would be expensive to do on an ink jet) to print out each page and then taped it all together. Notice the wrinkles on the camera right side -- oops.
The entire set used the following materials:
Large format poster printed from Blockposters.com
1 - 4x4 piece of Coroplast. I had this already but would have cost $12 if I had to purchase
1 backdrop stand. Again, I had this at home. Would have cost $110 if purchased
1 green arm chair
2 desk lamps with 1 household bulb and 1 natural light bulb
1 glass on gin
If my desk would have been against a wall this setup would have been a LOT easier. In the end it was just to much work to set up and take down each week but it was a fun challenge and I hope to find a way to have a fun backdrop that is practical for teh show up soon.
