Hello everyone!

I am currently on my second semester, studying Korean in Denmark.

We started our second semester last Monday, and Wednesday we were introduced to a new course called "Text reading - special element, Korean". This course is taught by the korean history teacher (professor, w/e - in my eyes they will always be teachers), and having figured out the enthusiasm of our class, he made some kind of arrangement with the Danish National Museum. We have been given the opportunity to make en exhibition about Korea/Korean culture! Any subject we want, as long as it is well thought out, and something you actually can make an exhibition out of.

This may not look like much, but it is a pretty big deal :O

The second I heard it I of course instantly thought of Starcraft - Not only Starcraft Brood War but definitely also Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty! I personally think it could be awesome to have an exhibition in the Danish National Museum about Korean gaming culture. With this being said I also think that it could be awesome to have an exhibition about Korea's pop-culture/traditional culture, but I would really prefer something with gaming >P

I know that the support from my other study palls will not be a problem, since they encouraged me to come with the suggestion, but what should an exhibition with gaming/starcraft contain?

I thought about this a lot, but I do really not have that many ideas about how to put something together for the public.

This is perhaps aiming a little to high - Well played MLG

Some of the things I thought about

- Lecture about Korean culture - E-sports
- Video/film explaining the game
- Show the gaming environment
- Arrange for computers to be set up

All in all it at some point seems really hopeless to me, and I have no idea of how to accomplish anything that would lead to a somewhat successful exhibition. Gaming will probably not be the only thing on the exhibition. The best and most well thought out subjects will be the ones chosen by the Museum, so it can be one or four.

The reason why I wrote this is because I would like some help from you peeps. Any ideas that can make this awesome is welcome, but keep in mind that the museum will only help economically if the ideas are damn good! And if we cannot convince the Museum that the idea is brilliant in the first place, they will not let it happen, so that is the first priority!

Thank you in advance!

Well hello VIPIrony - long time no see^^

So you are talking about some kind of lecture to explain and talk about the sport in Korea?

When I say requirements I don't really know what it is. All i know is that the museum won't say yes to putting up a bunch of computers similar to a LAN. That just won't do, even though it could be fun. What is required is something that at some point is educational and still attractive to viewers.

But nice thoughts, will be written down!

Brood War, SC2, Kpop. Three must-haves on any exibition about modern South Korea.

I remember a video of a broodwar finals, it was like a documentary. It showed fan girls preparing signs the night before, and there was huge hype. The finals were in public somewhere near a body of water (probably the sea), and there were over a thousand people in the open air going crazy. After one of the players won the game, he just went nuts, ran around and jumped in the water etc. That would be a good video to show. I couldn't find it, but I'm sure someone here knows what the hell I'm talking about.

So true HaXXspetten

Some other people in my class are taking care of thinking about that. We even talked about putting a group of people together with an karaoke machine and then make that "the exhibition" (it's a joke) - since Koreans really like their 노래방 (songrooms - karaoke rooms), and in general the 방 (room) culture just with different stuff in them - just to make a fun comparison with western culture.

But it is also how we are going to present the things to the public...

In order to make it accessible to the mainstream guests/crowd at a national museum, I'd try to steer clear of too nerdy/complex/detailed information. I believe your main focus should be to convey the magnitude and support of the e-sports scene in Korea, and to depict why gaming culture is to be taken seriously (I suggest you aim for a simple yet convincing way).

Some background on why Korean gaming culture is so far ahead (in comparison to other places), could be your academic starting point.

Believe me I have been thinking about that, but I just don´t know the best way to convey the information. A slide show of some kind could be nice to inform about the most general knowledge, but I don't know....

I know national geographics did a documentary on Xellos and WCG 2005,

You should focus mainly on BW if you want to do this in my oppinion(SC2 is fairly small in korea and havent had any inpact compaired to BW). SC2 is just a result of what broodwar managed to achieve so its pretty insignificant.
