I'm sort of nervous, I think I'll probably panic for the first few days, then settle down.
Just curious, what are the best non-perishable foods? I shall be stocking up on them before I leave home.
Anything else I should bring that no one mentions?

Also stereotypical as fuck but I love having ramen. Other than that you'll (probably?) be on a mealplan so just snack foods.

I did the same thing when I moved into dorms, I still have a tin of tomato soup from Aldi which is now 4 years old. Don't buy too much soup.

It fills you up fast and you can eat it with pretty much anything. ![]()

As far as food goes it all depends whether you get a meal plan or not. If you get a meal plan just bring a bunch of cereal and stuff, things you'll be able to make in your room and stuff. If you get a kitchen or something like that even you're lucky, I had a microwave for my entire floor so don't rely on the ability to cook anything. If you have a kitchen buy SHITLOADS of perogies and pasta and stuff like that, boil it for ten minutes and you're gooooood to go. Don't try to get fancy at all unless it's something you're really into and you're willing to put in extra effort because cooking is hard. Good luck =) res is super sweet, make sure you actually study though. It's hard sometimes.

Also, I strongly recommend you get some seasonings you like. Obvious choices are salt and pepper, but there are lots in shops that're really tasty and will add a lot of flavour to anything really easily, and they last a long time too. For example, I like to fry eggs in vegetable oil (protip: put some garlic cloves in some oil and use that on occasion if you like garlic) and sprinkle it with pepper and steakhouse pepper. Tastes fucking amazing when you fry it just right and get the peppery flavours to infuse into the yolk just right.

shin ramen, ohtugi rice, kimchi in a bag (I'm serious, there's portable bags of this stuff that you can put into a refrigerator) snacks (a lotttt seriously, you eat bags of this stuff when you study into late night) coffee mix (buy them and bring them, buying coffee from outside way too costly) a lot of quarters and one dollar bills (not for the strippers, but for the laundry) curry/stuff like that That's what I brought this semester after last semester and it's helping out a lot. Hope this helps :D

If so dried beans. Pinto beans are the least finicky to cook and chick peas/garbanzos are extremely versatile. Frozen fruit is good. Yogurt can last like a month.

50KG of rice Go to Costco and buy pasta/spaghetti. Get some cheap olive oil. Beans/Spices/Salt/the basic stuff... Thing all you have to do is do a weekly meat/vege shopping. Don't eat too much ramen, unhealthy and when you do need it you can always burrow from your room mate :D

After I switched to orange juice for lunch, my tummy issues suddenly stopped. Lactose tolerance can be trained, but you gotta be drinking for a long time to get there. bring shower sandals to dorm. communal showers are just......depressing. Your favorite alcohol if dorm permits/if your balls are large (if not) Always enjoy a nice glass of whiskey (i.e. w.e tickles your fancy). sigh just reread OP and saw you specifically talk about things to bring, not dorm life in general so you can disregard below, though it might be worth it to glance over. Go out and meet as many people as humanly possible while in the dorms. makes socializing later years much easier. try any club that you have the slightest inclination for. you can always stop, but getting involved with a good and interesting club is a great way to help you stay motivated and entertained during school. not sure on age/drinking laws/moral compass but I would go party as much as possible while/if classes are easy. For most people they just get harder meaning less time to responsibly go out and get smashed. don't date or hookup with anyone on your floor. It will just be awkward if it ends poorly for the rest of the year.

I'm lactose-intolerant (doubly so in the mornings), but I still drink milk tea from time to time, and it doesn't make me feel particularly sick until I finish a cup in a short period of time. My mom's way more lactose intolerant on the other hand; she can't drink even a quarter of a cup of milk tea and has to limit dairy intake.
