Hi fellow tl.netters,
I am going to be moving to a new apartment next week and I am very excited about it.
It is a 2 bedroom apartment and I will be sharing with another fellow, we are both young professionals in their early 20s.
Here are the pictures that consist of the main area.
As you can see theres already a TV (its not HD, so I guess Ipad, tablets or whatever are out of question) And honestly, I hate TV, i only like documentaries anyway and a little bit of Two and hald men/ the big bang theory of course Theres also already a home theater if you look closely at the corners.
I need ideas on what stuff to buy and make it better!
Bear in mind my budget would be no more than 400-500$ USD. So any ideas!?

Get some plants. Green ones. They are great. And put small lights behind the tv, it really saves you eyes in the long run. And an xbox. Or ps3

Carnivorous plant
For the laughs of course but yeah you're right, I know nothing about plants though, any recommendations?
And wouldn't the lights behind the TV just make the screen look wierd?

I agree with this guy. Plants add a lot to the scenery in any place. They are cheap, relatively easy to take care of and will add that perfect something to the place.

hang something on the walls, either something modern/abstract art-ish, or a nice looking framed poster? (this is coming from a 24 year old as well so I figure that's what I would want).
it looks really empty above your sink and on the wall next to your TV.
that's a nice looking apartment though.

First of all I would like to say that is one sick apartment you have there I wish my place was that nice. But I can see how you would want to do something with it, it looks pretty plane right now but has amazing potential. Im not a fashion designer but I will try to give you some advice of things I noticed.
1) Im not a fan of the throw pillows. There a really dull colour so I would say get rid of them and replace them with something more colourful that you enjoy that matches with your current colour scheme. You could also do the same with your curtains to match the new pillows as white is just too plain IMO.
2) I really agree with the above poster that lights and plants by your TV would look great. Give more life and brightness to the apartment.
3) Youve got a lot of wall space so use it! Put up some nice pictures of things that interest you things that will brighten up the room and show your personality. Posters are ok if your running out of budget money, but look for more quality pictures like plaques and such. Additionally if you can add a mirror somewhere in there where it will fit. Now when you think of mirror you probably just think plain old rectangle. Nonononono look for something cool and creative that fits your tastes. This is a badass mirror
I also enjoy like little circle mirrors placed specifically to look good.
Something plain like that could also work.
4) Kitchen area also has a lot of useable wall space, something as simple as a nice wall clock here would do or some quirky kitchen craft type things that talk about cooking and such. Something that could be funny and every morning you see it making breakfast could make your day. Or you could put up some sort of calander here. Mix it up combine some of these just don't leave the wall completely blank.
5) Again some ideas for your kitchen would be a nice rug maybe. I didnt see your fridge but adding some cool magnets that reflect yourself will brighten it up/ add picture of friends family and such.
TLDR; Brighten it up/add things that reflect your personality/ dont worry about it being super fashionable, just make sure it looks good and you like it.

Nope, it's generally for reducing eyestrain. If you google ambient lightning behind tv you will get a ton of results and some av forums with tips.
This is about what I mean: http://technabob.com/blog/2007/08/09/philips-aurea-tv-ambilight-gets-an-overhaul/
Plants: don't get cactuses. Yes they will live forever without water but an apartment with cactuses generally makes you look like a kid

Nice place!
I don't have a pic of it but a painting like the one TLO has behind him in his stream would be baller.

EDIT:nevermind lol... being thick
yeh plants are deffiantly good!

I would suggest a nice area rug in the living room, and another rug in the kitchen by the sink or something. Then I would get some cool shelves on the walls. Put some trinkets/books/plants up there, and you've got a cool look going!

No really what you asked, but thats a really nice kitchen

Color is unimpressive. Is that water outside? I suggest you reflect it inside with a subtle shade of blue or orange, for contrast.
Also plants will do miracles.

Thank you all for the comments, im definetly getting plants, thanks for opening my mind to that...
Here is a couple of more pictures of the place,

Is that a mirror to the bottom right of the television? It seems out of place. If you can move it, hang it on a different part of the wall. I also agree with perhaps adding some sort of green plant; even silk plants would work, and those do not require a lot of maintenance.

That is a really nice apartment. Check out www.wanelo.com they have some really cool decoration ideas.
Other than that, what everyone else said about plants is good advice. If you're worried about maintenance, even some fake trees for the corners would be great. A Banzai below the TV would be awesome I think.
