EDIT - Changed it a bit more, hopefully it's better; also made the watermark smaller so you're able to see the cover better.

Also, I think there are some grammatical errors like "The teen who refianced HIS mom's mortgage..."

The black text looks a bit out of place though. On top of the yellow area, try a very dark yellow rather than a pure black. For the text at the top try a really dark purple, or the same purple as the rest of the text at the top. For the photo, I'm not a fan of outer glow there, it's too pronounced. Maybe soften it by greatly increasing its size, darkening it and lowering its spread. The photo itself could use some adjustments. Maybe play with the color curves to adjust the light/dark balance/ These are small things that are honestly just personal preferences of mine.

Overall, while it looks fine if I saw this on a rack at a bookstore or while flipping pages on Amazon, I would not stop to give it another look because it looks like what it is and I would never get this book. There is really nothing wrong with your design, just the content as a whole. Also, yeah, there are a couple grammatical errors you might want to check on. Keep it up though! It seems like a good try for your first book cover.

On the other hand, the graphic design (the part which you had the most influence over) looks fine. Page composition, color theme, gradients, etc. is fine. Only criticism is I cant read the word over the image. Oh wait it doesn't actually say "SHOCKING" does it. it's like "SHOCKEYY?" I can't tell. Is that the name of the author?

Obviously since the wording is what the author wants, give him what he wants. That looks like it's what the author wants, but it's not a cover that would interest me. Personally anything like that having "SHOCKING" written on it is an immediate turn off. On the other hand, the graphic design (the part which you had the most influence over) looks fine. For example these are the specs for a full page ad in Harper's Bazaar FPC: Bleed - 307 x 225mm, Trim - 297 x 215mm, Type - 277 x 195mm In this case you shouldn't place text outside of the Type area (so all type should be within a 10mm margin). As for the design it looks ok to me (the kind of job I would try to get done asap and then move on).

Dark yellow on top of yellow isn't a very good idea based on the color alone. It needs a little more contrast as it blends in. I don't know why there isn't any green considering he's talking about finance and credit.

If you notice, the color scheme goes well with their clothing, I thought about putting green, but it would be so off, I can do maybe green marks to lay out what the book is going to help, but if you really think about it, Gold usually stands for money while purple stands for power.

True, I was trying to figure out a way around the yellow on yellow idea.

The image is incredibly goofy. I'd remove it alltogether and instead have a half-page water-marked page of numbers on the entire yellow segment of the cover, with the numbers pale gray. The number page would be more solid on the rightmost side, while mostly transparent on the left side, under the text.
