I've already started off the season in an awesome way, I lost my placement match and got promoted into 1v1 Gold (wut?) and already the players do some weird builds I've never seen before. The players were also all very well mannered, most will say "Hey GL HF" while others actually do react to the game in chat.
Silver league last season was an all out boring bm fest. That wasn't a complaint, it really was a boring BM fest. I think I counted at least 3 GLHF's, and about 3 gg's out of the entire 40+ games I played, while rage such as "!@#$ u man", "you little !@#$% pley the game rite", "your cool !@#$ kid" (this is all true) were counted at least 10+ times. The other games were no fun and non-challenging, I could literally win every game with 3 gates.
This season though, even in my lost placement match, my opponent greeted me with a friendly "glhf man!" and proceeded to stomp me in the ground, so I left with a 'gg'. I was shocked too because the "You've been placed in Gold league' message popped up and I was just staring at it for a good 10 seconds, I mean I lost I don't think I deserve Gold League haha.. So far I've played 8-10 games, and everyone was very nice and kind, always went into a game with a 'glhf man' or 'hihi gl!'. It's a good season already, and the games I've played certainly have gotten more challenging. I've seen wonky strats that work (one guy did a mass marauder hellion army and destroyed my colossus-stalker-zealot comp), I've even seen ling-infestor done correctly and a very, very good 4 gate play from one of my opponents.
I don't even take losses badly anymore, I leave a game learning something new and gives me an idea on how much tougher it's going to get in SC2.
So how about you guys? Any news in the new season? Has it gotten better or worse? Or has it not changed at all?
I've been having a blast so far, and I'll be sure to pull some wacky zealot-archon build against some of you gold leaguers haha

I was upset when I stayed in Platnium, but that's okay the game is still fun, and i'll just place in diamond soon enough. Glad you are enjoying the higher leagues. Have fun!

bm is the same in each league. It just depends who you end up playing against and how the game plays out.
Good that you are enjoying it though. Keep that mind set and enjoy laddering  It's not meant to stress you out ^^

I had a protoss player yell at me for tech switching instantly in ZvP. I mean how else am I suppose to win against a 4 base toss with a nasty deathball?

Yeah so far it's been pretty nice, the only 'bm' I've encountered was when I did killed off an SCV building a barracks with my scouting probe (this is always hilarious) and he said 'you are a !@#$%' and proceeded with a '', I knew he was just playing around since the entire chat early game was really well mannered.

first, i was semi-expecting a positive blog that would end up negatively barring down on gold leaguers and such, but that is definitely not the case, and i think you're the amazing one : ).
haven't played in a while, but i'm thinking i'll stay in platinum on my separate account, and master on my main account--both playing random atm. i think it's interesting that you lead into mentioning which race you play, which placed my focus (when reading) on how you were feeling overall.
i would like to end by saying, 'it's only the beginning!', but that would be slightly ambiguous and wouldn't be very nice at all.
so i'll say, instead, keep aiming higher, and further! that way you can only get better~

I completely agree. I got put into plat - after losing my placement match lol. Which I was super happy about because I wanted to get there for a while. But now, I'm losing so much more, its kinda sad. I'm sorta worried that i might get demoted back to gold again. Even my best matchup - PvT - is hopeless.

Oh yeah, it definitely is harder in the 'higher' leagues if you consider gold league to be a 'higher' league... Can't let that stop you from playing though. It actually makes me want to play more since I want to actually get better at the game :D

Man, is NA that bad? In my EU silver league it's pretty much mannered the whole time. Even when the guy worker rushed me this morning he said gg (with a yeehaa).

I find it to vary on the time of day.. Then again, since its winter-break all the kids that play this game are always on in the afternoon. They are more or less tame, at least some of them. If you play in the evenings, you would probably get the majority of people that are pretty mannered.

Haha, yeah, it's been up and down for me, just played a game with a pretty well-mannered guy who left with perfect English even going as far as congratulating me :3 (Not sarcastically). So yeah, you'll run into assholes and inversely you'll run into mannered people

New season hasn't started on KR server TT
But after recovering from my arrow in my knee I've been 100% TvT and 0% TvZ and TvP. Heck, I even won a TvT while taking a phone call mid-way through without pausing, making a funky Thor Banshee army by mistake and just a-moving for the win. WTF.

I won and stayed in platinum despite rolling platinums most of last season. So, yeah, system is sort of confusing.

I though silver league was the league for people who had no idea what they were doing. I ran into a guy who went FFE with 7 cannons in PvP into mass phoenix. Not to say there aren't genii in silver league, of course. I met this one guy who will revolutionize the metagame with his new +1 5 gate DT shrine colossus range (without colossus) one base timing attack.
EDIT: Sorry, it was +1 and a half. Reviewed the replay for the lols.

Oh no, silver league was absolutely boring. I had barely any fun in that league, and I could literally win a game by doing a cheese nobody's ever heard of. No challenge at all, and I played like 80% Gold and Platinum players while I was in Silver.
A guy went FFE in a PvP... and a zerg player took 3 bases in the beginning when I didn't FFE. It was bad. Some guy I went up against literally threw down 6 gateways on 1 base with no warp gate, 15 minutes in. It was horrible what I had to deal with in Silver league, though in the beginning it wasn't that bad.
In Gold, people actually know how to play. I've seen odd combos already that work.

Glad you're having fun in your first few matches of gold league! Don't expect it to last too long, since the subdivision between silver and gold is a very small one. I'd wager in your next 100 games you'll see about as much BM as you did during your silver league experiences.
