I opened up my email today, and something hit me.

I remembered a time when the only thing I ever found in there was game newsletters and password requests. This was normal. But nowadays, I seldom see any of these newsletters and it saddens me. All I see now are memos from project leaders, requests for meetings, deadlines to be met and reports to be written.

I'm in my last year of computer science engineering at my university, and it just suddenly dawned on me. Things won't ever be like that again. Playing games is something that I have to plan these days; something I'm not quite sure I like. But I guess this is how it has to be, right?

I'll always be playing, I just happen to get huge nostalgia bombs at times. Memories from when playing games was just what I did. Whenever I wanted. I'm sure they are just that; nostalgia, but I still can't help but reminisce.

I guess it's all just a part of it. You know, growing up. Shit, I might even have to get a job soon.

Thanks for reading.

I will never stop loving gaming, Maybe it might not be playing and competing, but watching it. I love games, it's been a passion that has been pretty constant in my life.

I feel the same way, I'm just having a hard time getting to terms with the fact that I can't play like I used to. Like I want to.

You'll get a job and actually have money to better support your gaming desires and actually, working a typical job leaves evenings mostly open for whatever you want. You can also go get whatever game you want whenever you want or a new cool mouse or keyboard or whatever without begging and/or waiting for Christmas. You certainly won't be playing whenever and however long you want everyday like when you were a kid (I remember those days too) but I actually wouldn't even consider the situation any worse, it's just different.

I'm trying to get my skills up and learn some more stuff so that i can work less a week, so that i can have more free time. The great thing about having gaming as a hobby, is that it is actually pretty cheap, as long as you don't need a new game every couple of weeks. My current dream is to have 24-30 hours weeks where I can still get everything i love out of life. Time is more important to me then money, and it always has been.

Yeah, I suppose that when I'm actually situated with a job this might be the case. It's probably just the hectic last years of my education that's bogging down the game time a lot.

Depends on the job, but yea, that's what happened to me. My last 1.5 years getting my civil engineering degree we're hell. Combined with work, I almost never had time to sit down a play a game for 3 hours. Now that I've graduated and got into a stable job, I have time to play during the evenings and weekends.

I feel you. I would love to dive into a game properly. loooooove to do that. But I can't.
Not with a family to take care of. Maybe some day.

Team Fortress 2 has to cover my needs for now, and does an okay job. Finding time for it isn't that easy though.

This is reminding me of how little time I have for gaming :<

Seriously I haven't played a videogame in a few months. And I don't even have a family (kids/gf/etc). Or a house. Just a job and a small apartment. Things can only get worse from here!

When I was 15 and I got a new videogame I would play the shit out of it. I would do every single god damned thing and play it over and over again until I finally got a new game. The idea of a new game sitting on my shelf without being played immediately was alien. Now I go to a videogame store once a year, buy like 2 games, and if I'm lucky they are done by the time I go next year. What the FUCK.

A lot of it is work. Taking care of myself/apartment adds some extra time. Some other social things I do. I have very little free time (especially during the week), and when I do theoretically have free time I'm too exhausted to do anything about it. Yesterday I came straight home after work yesterday and feel asleep rofl

Yeah I hope to never be in a situation like yours as that just sounds shitty xD. Right now for me I have work/school but still have plenty of time for gaming. I go to school 4 hours a day, work a couple days a week and have a good amount of fun to

Yeah dude; I work from ~7am to 2:30pm but I have meetings on top of that and a few hours of work to do outside of work hours. Add to that cooking, some cleaning/business matters, and occasional other activities and I find myself with too little time to get involved in anything. Like this week I had conferences until 8pm one day, defensive driving until 10pm another day, fell asleep at 4pm another day (due to the exhausting week), dentist's appointment (only open on weekdays), laundry night... ya no time for games! I watch like 30 minutes of something on my computer while I eat, or I browse tl a bit. That's my "recreation" during the week.

Weekends I bring home a few hours work tops, but I have to take care of the other shit like grocery shopping or meeting with people I don't have time to hang out with during the week. Not sure when I would play videogames XD

Man, if I had a whole house with surrounding property to take care of I'd be so screwed. Or little kids who needed constant attention :/

wow I totally get you there. I didnt believe this myself until I experienced it. 7-5 job with 45min commute both ways. I dont have much to do when I get home but instead of gaming, i just eat, work out and then pass out after maybe watching one TV show or reading a book. pretty much only go out friday night and on weekends its hard for me to find the effort to get up >_<

this blog is getting really depressing really fast *sadface*
