My parents, in particular my mom, just sent me a huge care package, even though I told them that I didn't want anything sent to me AT ALL. I hate junkfood because at home I would not be able to stop eating junkfood until I was near puking. (Halloween = sick for a few days)
Here it is:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/mjcKH.jpg) They even sent me cheese and crackers. I'l look really stupid if I suddenly break out some cheese and cut it apart in the middle of my one room dorm. I'm going to end up throwing the block of cheese out. EDIT: [Yeah screw that, stupid idea, I love cheese.] They also sent me underwear, which I have more than enough of already. There is some good stuff in there, but I totally can't stomach eating a lot of it, so I will have to try to not eat a bunch at once, which is going to be hard.
I'm going to try to get my roommate to eat it. EDIT: I'm going to bring it to the MLG Providence party. ;D That is pretty much the perfect solution.
As it is, I am stressed about taking so much of my parent's money. I have to drop out of 2 of my 5 courses so I don't get a failing GPA. I don't need food for happiness, I need success! I may have rejected their care package, but I really love my parents and don't want to disappoint them.
+ Show Spoiler [About the courses I dropped + lessons] +English was the class I had as my last priority, which critically injured my grade in that course. Dropped it.
Contrarily, discrete mathematics was my first priority, but I was put two weeks behind due to the fact that it was a completely new concept and that my teacher didn't explain half the stuff he wrote. For example, basic set builder notation and the fact that certain values (Ex.a,b) are constants. Dropped it too, because I think I'l fail the course in the end, or at least hover around 50%.
Going through my first really hard course taught me some things. I think next time I go through the discrete mathematics, I will learn the stuff that will be taught beforehand, so I can understand his lecture, and then after taking really good notes, I will analyze them until I understand them.
Despite getting overwhelmed, I really like math and computer science in general. Once I get good at it, it should be an enjoyable career. This semester I quit my habit of procrastination, but I still didn't know how to cope with hard courses. I studied for 5+ hours a day, and still had trouble. I think I am on the right track now.
My university is REALLY nice. I'm asocial (don't party etc), but it is hard to be sad at all in this environment.
I was bored and drew my teacher in math 101 (I already knew the stuff in the particular class) He has a funny polish accent. + Show Spoiler [Math teacher drawing] + And then I drew a presenter in my CSC class. + Show Spoiler [Random lady from class] +
I also listen to a ton of music. My favorite is the music by a webcomic (which I don't read) called Homestuck. Here's a sample(beware 14 minutes long), which is the a remix of the best songs I've heard out of thousands: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Cascade/4fnHFH?src=5
Here is a smaller sample of their music, which is probably my favorite: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Heir Conditioning/3KZNKV?src=5
Check out my full music playlist here: http://grooveshark.com/#/deltrus/music/favorites It is amazingly good. (and large)
Now, that was my free time for the weekend. Time to study for my Calculus 2 midterm for the next 5 days (minus sleep).
EDIT: I changed my opinion on the care package. I'm not going to eat it all, but I'm grateful for it.

you will look silly eating cheese in your dorm? What?

People generally do not eat normal food outside the cafeteria. Maybe it is just me being a bit socially awkward lol.

Eat the cheese yo, no one care how you look like in college
|
Really? You're not going to eat cheese and crackers? I'd sit on my chair with a bag of cookies dipping them into milk whilst watching Survivor. Who gives a fuck.
|
Be happy that your parents ARE willing to support you. My parents have pretty much said, "we need to retire and your dad doesn't make much money any more, so have fun fending for yourself!" They help me a little bit, but most of my stuff is financial aid, a couple of tiny scholarships and working I call home sometimes, but I'm pretty much just on my own. Happy, but kind of distant
And I looove drawing pictures in class, especially political science classes. It helps when you have a lady friend drawing with you

I would be freaking excited if someone sent me cheese and crackers, or food in general that I didn't have to pay for!

Rofl. Fine I'l eat it! I'l have to find a knife though... I'm surprised everyone is commenting about the cheese.
I guess you could say... It ain't easy, being cheesy.
|
OMG if u dont want the cheese ill have it!
|
I think people are more concerned with the fact that you were willing to just throw stuff that your parents lovingly sent you.
|
Doooooood, donate that shit to a fellow TL member who attends your school! I sure there must be at least one out there.
|
That's so fucking nice of them and cute T___T my parents NEVER send me anything at college.
lol I would kill for a block of cheese.
|
What's the pink box, swedish berries? I don't eat much junk but I'd eat candy til it killed me if I ever bought it.

There are 70 people in our schools SC club on facebook. Hmmm. I know! I'l bring a bunch of food to the providence party we are going to have at someone's house. Thanks for helping me think of a great idea! ^_^.

This is such a great opportunity for one of those 1st world country problem demotivational posters.
Seriously, don't throw it out man. Just give it away at the least, or just leave the box in the hall with 'free' sign on all the shit you don't want.

Sounds like an awesome plan! Btw, you can freeze the homemade cookies to preserve their freshness for a week or two if you have access to a freezer.

Bro I wish my parents sent me more cheese. I wouldn't eat all that junk food, but cheese is dam CHEESE! (except if its American, YUK) Giving the food away is a much better solution. As for discrete math, it's not that bad if you give it a little time. English on the other hand is blagh (says the electrical engineering major).
|
Psh, earlier I heated some Brie, butter and strawberry jammed up some toasted cuts of French bread, and sat in my boxers watching some rifftrax... stop trying to be "cool", it has the opposite effect.

I agree. I actually had fun when I understood what I was doing. Taking the course a second time is going to be awesome, and I'm going to stay ahead. I only started thinking about proofs halfway through the course, but now I'l be learning all the intricacies and proofs I didn't pick up before.

If you need tutoring...you can ask for help on the UVic sc2 group on facebook. Almost everyone there is CSC and the guys that are on there most are beyond 1st year.

Eating cheese is "uncool"?
Sir, this is the very definition of friends and social norms that aren't worth your time. I would slap a bitch if they said it was weird I was eating cheese and crackers.

seriously some creative person needs to make one of those first world problem pics about the cheese

Weirdest brag blog of all time.

You'd throw out a block of cheese? Terrible!

I am actually coming to agree with people in this blog. I love cheese, what was I thinking? Moment of stupidity I guess.

Uhm.. I wouldn't advise taking discrete math at the same time as calc. That's actually a terrible idea. Discrete math is a difficult course with a lot of proofs. Just because the prereq is something below calculus doesn't mean you can take it.
I'd suggest taking it concurrently or AFTER ( after is better) linear algebra and if you want to make sure you do well take it after a logic design class. That way you'll have a decent grasp on proofs from linear algebra and a decent grasp on boolean algebra from logic design.
To be honest, the hardest part about that class are the combinatorics problems, which your book will probably list as "counting" problems. Other than that it's mostly rudimentary proof stuff.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the advice. I really agree it felt like there should have been some additional prerequisites. I'l make sure to read up/get tutoring on the counting problems so I am prepared.
According to this page: http://web.uvic.ca/calendar2011/FACS/FoEn/DoCoS/PrRe.html I don't have any linear algebra for a while, and there are no logic design courses until year 3.
http://web.uvic.ca/calendar2011/FACS/FoEn/DoCoS/CPinCSaMaCS.html The combined math and computer science major is like that too.

Why do you even need to eat everything at once or fast? Most of the stuff there looks like it'll last a while~ Don't worry about your parents giving you too much, they feel good about it and you should care about them feeling good + you get a lot of stuff WIN/WIN.
