Don't turn on your computer when you get home. First sit down, relax on your bed. Then think about your day. Have in your room a notepad where you write to do lists. Check it everyday before playing computer games.

This takes little time. But it focuses your mind on tasks. You can play games later. Just make sure you check your notepad. I also recommend you just take a short break before doing anything. Like just lie down on your bed and think about your day.

I'm one of the worlds greatest procrastinators, I completed basically an entire BA in Graphic Design in the final 4 days.
Any ways to combat this that isn't just do it would be sick.

To do lists are the key. Write one at the end of each day, and get stuck into it as soon as you get home. Once you've sailed through it, you'll feel great and still have time to game.

I just tell myself--"just go fucking do it". Experience tells me the best way to stop procrastinating is to not start procrastinating--seize every opportunity you have to get something done in case you get distracted//preoccupied later.

You should get off the comp now and do your work instead of reading this thread.
Possibly the best thread ever http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=232912&currentpage=All

While I'm at school I always think about how important it is to do my homework and read what's on the study list. Yet when I come home I immediately relax and just play starcraft or watch streams.

How does an average teamliquid reader counter this OP phenomenon?

I go on teamliquid and look for threads on countering procrastination.

Go somewhere else to do homework if you need to.

For me though, i see people doing homework, texting, watching tv, while eating, randomly getting on fb/twitter/TL/reddit/etc and i'm like...wtf are you doing? "oh you know, just homework"
you are not doing just homework.
get your shit all off and do the homework.

so i guess, for me the simplest answer is just...have discipline.
and then the proper question is, "how i has discipline?"

you just do. that's simple.
you have any self control at all and you put your ass in gear and GO.

you can't fight it once it's already started, the only way to fight procrastination is to prevent it from setting in in the first place. aka know what times of the day / situations in which you are likely to procrastinate, and right before you get into that scenario, try to find ur self some other work to do.

I am pretty bad with procrastinating too. It was extremely rare that I would study or do homework after coming home from school. When doing homework, don't multi-task with entertainment. Concentrate on the homework and you'll both get it done faster and benefit more from it (and have to study less too).

If you have multiple assignments due around the same time, say a week later, spread out which days you work on each one. By all means you do not want to put ALL of them off until the last day. I know ideally you should finish them all when you get home or whatever, but realistically, and considering being prone to procrastination, at least spread out the days you do them. It's much less stressful and easier when you get bits and pieces done ahead of time (similarly - break up the big assignments into smaller tasks).

so, I heard teamliquid is really terrible for combating procrastination. so is the internet in general.

try to do as much work offline as possible... it actually helps. (especially if you're used to constantly trying to do 5 things at once when you're on the computer... I tend to alt-tab every 15 seconds when I'm working on the computer @_@)

Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

The best way is to just firmly tell yourself that work comes first. That is, when you get home or have free time, don't take a minor youtube/computer break before you start or in between what you want to get done. Just schedule what you want to accomplish that day, then do it first.

As soon as you get started opening up TL or youtube or MSN, you are screwed and your productivity plummets. The best solution is just prevention.

I have a big problem with procrastination. I have found the only method for fixing this has been to plan out each day the night before. Monday-Friday. This helps a lot by allotting myself time to study/work on school stuff.

It does suck because it takes time to do this each night but I have found that I actually have much more productive days during the week usually allowing me to get all my school stuff done and leaving my weekends free.
