Hi guys,

My friend Evan has decided he wants to give up Wow. He asked me to suggest a few games.
Of course i suggested Sc2. I said that it was awesome ad kinda like AOE (Which he played) but he wasn't convinced..

So i was wondering, any other ways i could convince him to join the awesome side?

Just tell him to get it, and play some 2v2s, make it fun at first. Then tell him about the seriousness of SC2 today.

Yeah thats exactly what i did with my friend...he still sucks though, he doesnt have the drive to get better. so he doesnt play that much. he is kinda turned off about the big learning curve

so he is lazy and unmotivated for starcraft 2?

I suggest to you to watch with him some big trounaments, so he can see all the drama, passion, competition and high level games, maybe that will motivate him to get better at sc2.

He doesn't need to buy it. He can just play the Starter Edition( https://us.battle.net/account/sc2/starter-edition/ ) until he's convinced, otherwise he would just waste $60 for nothing, but if you really want to convince him, then have him watch the best tournaments with you! If there's no big tournaments live, then have him watch the best VODs with you! Or IPL 3 -- which is coming very soon! But the best thing to do is to take him to a barcraft!

ESPORTS! also, he needs to realize playing starcraft2 for entertainment is something only a select few can do, most of us do it just to be badass and cause we like torturing ourselves.

Yea, this. Try to convince him, but don't force him into it.

I tried getting a bunch of my friends into SC2 despite them not being too enthusiastic about it, and all of them quit within a few weeks/months.

I agree with this. Let him try the campaign on your account, then play some 1v1s and 2v2s with Starter Edition.

I got my friends to start playing by handing them all copies of my BW and we played a bunch together. Then they can decide if they like the mechanics and buy SC2. I recommend BW cause the PC requirements are minimal, installation is easy, don't need a Bnet account, etc.

why don't you get him here and have him tell us his opinion on the game, haha.

we can always correct him, give him simple ideas/tips, and maybe even encourage him.

one of the good attitudes to go about competitive games is to be enthusiastic, and sometimes that comes from the drive of having someone you constantly need to compete against---someone you know.

that's all hypothetical though.... but yeah, i'd ask him his take on the game, not that it's a girl blog or a discussion of personal issues, but it's a huge game to be able to learn// and continue to learn from over years and years of practice.
if he wants to be semi-casual he can, but that's in form of few melee games and more custom. otherwise, even team-matches might be frustrating to the newer players.

to stress my point, getting a friend into a game that he's not really convinced about can be a sensitive thing. it doesn't hurt though to show him the popularity, and hurrah of the fans who post hundreds of topics here each day. that will show him that the game has atleast the magnitude of popularity that WoW has despite it being over game sessions/individual games of 1v1, over having an entirely persistent/open world.

if you don't know about the SC scene though, i don't really know what to think. again, it's if you're interested in the first place or not.if he really does want to stop WoW, sc is definitely a game that can hold as much interest in comparison.

Show him epic games. I'd suggest the Nestea vs. July Ultra vs. Ultra slugfest...I can't remember when that was, but that was fantastic.

Hm, I was once that friend. I was reluctant at first but but after a while decided i'd give in and try it. Since then I've become a ton more SC2 interested than him, and he's switched to LoL.

Now he's trying to get me into LoL -_-' Noooope

But anyway, it depends what kind of guy your friend is. If he's competitive and can stand the toughness of SC2 (you get into the game, you lose 5 games, get labelled as a complete newbie and then have to work your way up the intimidating ladder system) then he'll love it.

If he gets stressed easily and gives up easily it might not go over so well. It's up to you.
