TSL 4 anyone?

Old stuff
+ Show Spoiler +
I belong to those people who say that if something is good, you shouldn't have it every day (or every month when speaking of Starcraft tournaments).
Many others didn't feel the same way when TSL 3 was over, that's why the poll ended up looking like this:
http://www.teamliquid.net/poll/index.php?poll_id=492
You have to force some people to be happy. By making them wait for what they think would be good for them now.

TSL 3 started in mid March and ended mid May. Has it only been 4 months since then? Feels more like ages for me, especially because a lot has changed in my life in those 4 months.

I miss the excitement , the drawn out pain in my chest not knowing who would win, the competition between Korea and Non-Koreans and last but certainly not least, the commentators (shoutout to chill yeah).

Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be best to start with the Ro16 now. Make it slow. Make it beautiful. Make it TSL.

Start announcing in October, give people that nice warm fuzzy feeling that something big is going to happen.
Draw the qualifiers out over November and December.
Then, a short break over the holidays. By then we will know the players and we will be breaking our heads about who will beat who.

2-3 weeks into the new year - BOOM Ro16!

The finals would be in March.
Nearly a year since TSL 3 for all those "waiting makes it better" fanatics like me.
Before HotS gets released (I actually have no idea wether this is true).

TSL 4 anyone?

So when is this finally going to be announced? What do you think?
Poll from ramon:
Poll: TSL 4?

start qualifiers now (22)

85%

wait for HotS or at least half a year (4)

15%

there are enough tournaments (0)

Two TSLs per game in my opinion! So TSL 4 in 2012!

There are 3-4 OSL's a year iirc and it still is an awesome tournament and means a lot. I dunno why people insist that waiting makes it better, especially when its a random amount of time between tournaments.

If anything that makes it worse, because a year from now the seeded players from TSL3 might be slumping or bad, and/or quit playing, like Draco in TSL2.

There is no reason TSL has to start now...TSL was important due to the lack of foreigner tournaments and now there's plenty. The recent TSL showed a lot of korean vs foreigner interplay...

There really isnt a reason I can see why we would need a TSL...

fair enough, i feel that the perfect length of time is the OSL/MSL time frame per year
however TSL is a tournament not like that, its a glorious random event that occurs once in a long while and brings joy with it when it happens, if an old victor is slumping then oh well, let the new blood sear on through

because it was way better than all of the other tourneys with the hype and the slow schedule ect. But I think it should only happen once a year.

TSL 3 was the greatest event in sc2 yet. The games the production the storylines everything was above anything ever seen before. TSL4 will and must be better. Let the magic grow I say.

I think 2-3 tsl's a year would be perfect. But I imagine it will stay to one a year but can't wait for the next one

TSL3 was announced on New Years Day, I'm pretty sure. I liked the last one's time-schedule formatting, I'm all for the same for TSL4.

I bump this up, because I cant wait for it and
would love to hear what the current plans on it are...

Adding to the previous posts: Once a year is perfectly fine with me, but it would be awesome if it could be a 32 player tournemant imo. This would mean more qualifiers... The qualifiers were for me personally as exciting as the main event.
The point system for qualifying alone...

Give us TSL back... PLEASE!!!

probably in planning stages at this point. I wouldn't expect more than once a year at minimum, the amount of work it requires from all areas of TL staff is immense.

Remember it was announced on New Years last time.

I don't think you should worry too much. TSL is more of a Spring Fling.

I was gonna start a thread like that with polls like these
What do you think TL should do
Poll: TSL 4?

start qualifiers now (22)

85%

wait for HotS or at least half a year (4)

15%

there are enough tournaments (0)

0%

Your vote: TSL 4?

(Vote): start qualifiers now
(Vote): wait for HotS or at least half a year
(Vote): there are enough tournaments

Considering that they had kind of a big price, special event for the end of the year with the TL Open Map Contest, I'm curious to what they have planned for the TL Open's of 2012.
Poll: Are we going to see the TSL 4 Announcement within a month from now?

No (6)

67%

Yes (3)

33%

TSL once per year please! It was so great I would watch it if it were on everyday but at least please give us one TSL per year!

once a year is good.

so it's probably time to start the next one.

I say wait a little. I want the finals to be played by December of this year, but it's alright to wait a little.

I disagree that TSL is useless. We might have other foreigner tournaments these days but TSL is beautiful in its own right. You see little-to-never-used strats and counters (who could have thought you could beat void rays with mass roach?) and glorious victories (the tourney winner was originally expected to lose his first round), and personally, no other tournament gives me that kind of heart-pounding thrill.

But I think HoTS could give TSL a little nudge. The whole beauty of this tourney is that the players are specially picked to do unorthodox builds to keep it interesting. 2-3 new units tacked on to every race (and the useless/unused ones, even by TSL standards, removed or altered) would provide that unorthodoxy.

If HoTS gets released by Q3 of this year (the two big delays in SC2 IIRC were bnet 2.0 and actually building the game from scratch, this is an expansion so HoTS should release much faster than WoL), then give it 2-4 weeks and then launch TSL4.

Otherwise, TSL4 in the spring, TSL5 for HoTS, TSL6 again depends on the release dates, and TSL7 (if we still have them by then) for LoTV.

i know how theres a lot of tournaments and cups and leagues going on in sc2, and a lot of great ones at that too, but when i think back to tsl 3 i get this warm, fuzzy feeling ^^ when i watched it i even did a little research and watches some games from the earlier tsls (did not follow BW at all) which added more to the hype for me (seeing tyler/mondragon play). so i'd love another one. soon. i dont really care what the exact timing will be, but i'd definitly love an announcement of tsl4 soon :>

so tl;dr: dont care when this year it is gonna be, but at least announce it PLEASE

I remember the announcement being exactly on New Years since people were confusing the timer for the announcement with the new year countdown. As much as I'd like it to be a once a year thing, the fact that it's already more than two weeks past that seems to indicate otherwise. Given the big showings by MLG, NASL, IPL, and dreamhack in their tournaments, and the general adherence to the belief in a LAN tournament's superiority to online ones [especially across multiple different servers/with the lag issue], I wouldn't be surprised if TL is taking a little bit more time in concocting an epic TSL4 to top all of the past LANs with their own great creation that may mostly be LAN.

Honestly thats what I am worried about. That they aren't doing TSL4 or if they do it will be a LAN tournament. I really hope they do end up doing another one that sonline like tsl3 but I'm not to optimistic about it tbh :/.

What makes TSL so good is because of the shock it creates when it's announced. You always think shit can't get more epic, but you're wrong when reading the announcement. Just forget about it, and one you'll browse TL while drinking your coffee and spit your coffee all over the screen when seeing how sick TSL4 looks in the announcement. And when you know about the amazing production value of each TSL4, you know the tournament will be as epic as it looks in the announcement, unlike some over-hyped shit.

TSL1 : Omg best foreign BW tournament ever, from a tournament structure and amount of gosu players perspective.
TSL2 : Holy shit 23k prizepool ? :O Incredible ladder qualifications with some old school players coming back just for the epicness of the tournament
TSL3 : Is my good ol' TL inviting mother fucking BoxeR ? Even though watching SC2 sucks, I was literally crying of happiness for all TL admins and people working on organizing TSL3. Seriously, who would have thought a few years ago that TL would organize a tournament and invite the Emperor to play in it.
TSL4 : ????

Just be patient

Why would you want it to be online? For traditions sake? TSL4 would HAVE to have Koreans, but playing with Koreans online just doesn't work for a tournament that wants to claim great success, the inevitable swarm of "lag" screams will drown the tournament on the spot.

When I ran into Nazgul at IPL3 this was something I just had to ask about. At least back then he said they were definitely working on it, but there was tons of work that needed to be done behind the scenes

I wouldn't expect any word whatsoever about it until they're ready to make the (undoubtedly incredibly epic) announcement
