Hello fans, I'm sad to say that I've got major burnout from SC2 and can't find the energy to play another ZvZ. I started playing about 3 months ago and wanted to get to master's league as fast as I could. I started in silver league with 0 experience other then watching major SC2 tournaments. I should have tracked my progress (maybe in a blog). I managed to climb the ladder quickly after reading various guide's and watching PRO streams on TL when I didn't feel like playing (thanks Sen).
The burnout started with the local Vancouver tournament that took place, oh god I forget, 1 1/2 months ago? I was super excited for it. I was in the AM bracket because I was only in diamond at the time. I had pushed really hard the week leading up to it to get into masters. As many of you Vancouverites might know the tournament hit some glitches and had to be cancelled due to technical issues between the LAN center and Blizzard.
This was a big disappointment for me. I had worked really hard in order to compete for this tournament and then it just went away without so much as a game being complete. So there I was, the tournament I worked so hard for never went through, I had no motivation, and when I did play I cringed when I saw my opponent was a zerg
So this is what I need from you guys, give me your TOP 5 current games that you own. I'm not looking for free games or cheap ones, just games you enjoy playing (computer specific).
EDIT: Add a little description about the game's listed (RTS, Shooter, puzzle etc etc)
EDIT2: I'm going to try some of these games and write a blog/review

Heroes of Might and Magic III with Wake of the Gods fan-made Xpansion. Timeless. Knights of the Old Republic. Probably one of the best RPGs to date. Mod it. search for Manit0u's thread. Armies of Exigo. A fantasy based RTS inspired by Brood War. Fun. Fallout 1 and 2 Godly turn-based RPG. Battlefield 2 or 2142 mind-boggingly good team-based shooters. I wasted a lot of my life on them and I don't regret a single second.
honorable mention: Portal 1&2 fun puzzle games =)
|
Heroes of Might and Magic 6 (demo for now, release October 13)
YES, HoMM 3 too
|
The Witcher 2 Bastion Portal 1&2 Tales of Monkey Island 2 Dragon Age: Origins
Oh, and HoMM3 as well, obv.
|
Armies of EXIGO was interesting but I don't enjoy it that much sorry to say,
Darkstone (really retro but a solid, A+ game)
Lord of the Rings BFME I and II are good for a quick giggle but not AMAZING,
League of Legends (IMO) is one of the more relaxing games I play (assuming your teammates don't freak out every 5 seconds),
BW was always good too.
WarCraft III:TFT was fun because of all the cool mods, (I'm really breaking the rules but I'm just listing off games)
Deus Ex was pretty legendary,
Dragon Age Origins was good (I haven't played the others or KoTR).
And I think that's it.
Honorable mention: Tales of Symphonia I.
|
DoTA - better competitive game than HoN and LoL IMO BF2 / 2142 - best shooters IMO SC:BW - best RTS IMO
in no particular order
|
SW:TOR SOTIS Watching SC2 Listening to SC2
|
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Paper Mario 64 Dynasty Warriors 6 FIFA 2010 Gears of War 2
|
Planescape : Torment. Best singleplayer game I've played.
|
Team Fortress 2 most definitely. Played it when it was first out, had a break for about 1 year (when hats started coming out) and i'm playing again and it's still heaps of fun.
Fallout 3/New Vegas I spent a fair amount of time on too.
Bioshock's 1 and 2 I enjoyed very thoroughly too.

OP asked for PC-specific games.
Good on ya for reading though.
|
Black Ops - FPS League of Legends - MOBA Fallout 3 - RPG (not New Vegas, 3 was WAY better IMO) Oblivion - RPG
Other than SC2 those are my top . I feel you with the burnout, i'm getting there myself and have been watching more than I have played. I'm waiting on and Skyrim which are both out in November. Edit: OMG I FORGOT MINECRAFT - best sandbox ever
|
System Shock 2 (RPG/shooter hybrid, SO GOOD) Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines (the best RPG out there imo) Gothic 2 (another RPG, best open world RPG, so much better than Oblivion etc) Team Fortress 2 (it's free and a really awesome teambased shooter) Amnesia (horror adventure)
All of those 5 games are worth playing, not the very best games I own, but 3 of them are quite under the radar and deserve much more praise than they get. And Amnesia/Team Fortress 2 are loads of fun aswell.
|
League of Legends Homm3 HoN Half-life 2 if you haven't played it...
|
Look into playing portal 1, its free on steam until the 20th, and if you like it enough buy portal 2. its first person puzzle game.
|
DoTA (maybe not, cuz it has a very high learning curve) Counter Strike (FPS) - old but still fun RollerCoaster Tycoon (sometimes u want to play a non-competitive game and RTC is just so calm) Tekken 6 (best fighter game IMO) Mass Effect (never played but i heard it was rly good)
|
The Witcher 1+2 (best RPG series I've played in the last 5 years. The 2nd is much better in terms of combat but they are both excellent plot driven games)
Xenogears (My favorite RPG of all time. It's a PS1 game but can be played on comp though emulators. Very easy to use and highly suggest it. If you want to play it and need help with emulators PM me.)
Mass Effect1+2? (I believe it's out of PC, I play it on 360, but another real great RPG I'd suggest)
Dead Space 1+2 (Pretty straight forward 3rd person shooter horror games. Very engaging story however and great atmosphere. Highly recommend. I'd compare to Resident Evil 4/5 if you've played those)
Amnesia: Dark Decent (Fun if you love horror games and being scared. It's a atmospheric type game though and you need to let yourself get immersed. Not action oriented, still excellent however.)
My list would be WAY WAY different if you allowed console games.
|
Well I'm going to list my 5 go-to games, they're all pretty well known so I don't think I need to describe them in much detail...
Diablo 2 / LoD - was playing on USEast hardcore ladder until I died last weekend. DOTA - a couple games every week, not too many. MapleStory - It's one of those MMO's you hate playing but can't quit. SimCity 4 - one of my favourite all-time, especially with transportation routing! SCBW - can't dodge when meeting up with my Korean friends.
|
Obviously BW. It's like sc2 but where everything is improved! A worthy sequel.
+ Show Spoiler + Portal (first person puzzle game with great story) Resident evil 4 (survival horror/action. 3rd person shooter) Ninja Gaiden Black (Probably my favorite single player game of all time. 3rd person action, think God of War with ramped up difficulty and ninjas) Pokemon Red/Blue (Nostalgia!! Also grinding. Who doesn't love grinding?)

Not gonna lie I used to find my old Blue/yellow and pick it up and play maybe 5 years ago but now I'm just too old/lost interest in pokemon. Good times though.

I'd give Bastion a go. Soothing relaxing game that makes you forget where you are with it's active narration and pleasant sound tracks.

SCBW Amnesia the dark descent LoL CSS (or any HL game) DotA

In no particular order. Semi old school biased, since I assume your familiar with newer titles.
- Baldur's Gate Series - Best RPG series ever. Tons of content, great story, amazingly deep gameplay. Use BGTutu to play the first game in the second game's engine.
- Half Life Series - Amazing old schoolish exploration shooters
- Jedi Knight 2 - Best Jedi simulator ever. Seriously, I've never felt like more of a badass playing a SP game than when i do playing this well.
- Civilization 4 - In my view, best game in the Civ series. Good balance between approachability and depth, with lots of ability to tune the game to your liking.
- Homeworld Series - Best storytelling in a RTS I've ever experienced, with a legendary soundtrack. Also, probably the best attempt at a 3d, space combat RTS I've ever run into.
|
Homm3 + expansions (hours of non-stop fun :D) SCBW CS1.6 D2 (til D3 is official out) Total Annihilation (the predecessor of all modern RTS)
|
Arcanum! Awesome isometric-view RPG. It's pretty imbalanced though but very fun and quite difficult to complete
|
Deus Ex 1. $10 on steam, one of the best PC games ever.
|
1: BW 2: BW 3: BW Manager 4: League of Legends 5: Master of Orion 3 (atm until Guild Wars 2 comes out :D:D:D:D:D:D:D)
|

TF2 Mass Effect Uniball (http://www.uniballhq.com/) Dwarf Fortress - SO AWESOME Golf
|
Portal 1&2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Guild Wars Mass Effect Tetris!
|
BW Ultima Online - MMORPG of choice Baldur's Gate II - Amazing Single player RPG Battlefield II - FPS of choice Guild Wars - Another great mmorpg, great team pvp
|
|
Team fortress 2 is free on steam... god damn thats good stuff! Keep them coming a lot of good ones so far :D. I like the simpler games like puzzle ones that people are mentioning.
|
1. Portal 1 just became free on Steam. Thoroughly enjoyed it last weekend. 2. Dead Island. Sleeper hit. RPG/FPS with a melee focused combat system. Only $39 via Amazon. 3. The Stanley Parable. Indie game that is surprisingly very good. 1st person puzzle. Really thought provoking little jewel. 4. Diablo 3 Beta. Not much more to say. 5. Limbo is on my games to play list.
|
Well, If I'm not allowed to list Brood War or SC2....
Baldur's Gate: The RPG's for the PC, not the Xbox, 1 and 2 and their expansions -Best RPG's ever SW: KOTOR (Great BioWare Starwars RPG) SSF4: AE (I like to compete, man) MvC3 (I still like to compete!) Dragon Age: origins (Best modern RPG imo, though teh witcher is certainly good)
Honorable Mentions: Quake series 1.6 Witcher 1-2 AoE series (if you've got a lot of time on your hands) Civ 5 (if you've got even more time on your hands) Total war series: so sick fun esp Rome:TW Borderlands - Mindless, but Fun Sins of a Solar Empire (so fun to play single player even) Audiosurf
|
Sins of a Solar Empire was a good game, and I'm trying out Heroes of Annihilated Empires right now.
|
Minecraft. You know what Minecraft is, right? Play it and never look back.

Played it for a couple weeks then it got pointless. I read recently that they received major change's so I might give it another look.

- League of Legends - Fun DoTA style game. Free to play. Has a great community here on TL. (You can find us on the side bar!)
- Osu! - Can be found here. Free to play. Really great rhythm game. If you've every played Elite Beat Agents (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan in Japanese) on the Nintendo DS, this is basically a computer version.
- Fire Emblem - Turn Based Strategy, on the DS, GBA and Wii. Fantasy tactical strategy turn-based game with pseudo roleplaying and persistence elements. Great story, characters and can be pretty hard at times too.
- Advanced Wars - Turn Bases Strategy, on the DS and GBA. Made by the same company as Fire Emblem. A turn-based strategy game about making armies of tanks and mowing down people. Hard Mode in the earlier games is really hard. I mean like, suicidally hard.
- Starcraft Broodwar - RTS. If you've never played the original, you really should. For some reason, it seems to simple yet complex. Practise that APM spam! 1sz2sz3sz all day...
|
You should check out cave story if you like any kind of SNES games like Secret of mana and Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy. A really slick looking independant game, good story, fun game.
|
DotA - This game.... I have played this game on and off for about 8 years now. Probably the best game to play when I go on a losing streak in SC2 (since I'm pretty good at dota).
Other notable games: Assassins Creed: Brotherhood Witcher 2 Fall Out New Vegas
|
Battlefield 1942/Battlefield 2 and soon to be Battlefield 3 is all that I have been up to as well as Bad Company 2, after getting bored of SC2 myself recently I had to find something and I'm glad I stumbled on this game series since I had never played it. I would say CS Source but in comparison the BF series has a lot more depth and you get way less trash talkers and douche bags. Also BW is always a nice change of pace if you get sick of SC2 all the time and the game-play is so much different you really don't "feel" as if your playing BW, I don't know why that is for me but that's how it goes.
