Also, the game seems pretty old....now I am not the kind of guy to judge on graphics, but....gameplay must be really exhilirating if I would consider that one. More info plz!!! Dwarf Fortress? I never heard of that game. Will have to google it good sir. It's a classical RPG in all it's glory, following the AD&D ruleset. As such, it is not comparable to games like Diablo and should not be approached as such. While the game flows in real time, there are typically so many decisions to make during combat that the pause key is your best friend, especially considering you'll be controlling a party of up to 6 characters. A typical scenario would be that you pause the game to tell your mage to cast a flame arrow to finish off that sword spider whilst your fighter retreats a few steps to accept a cure spell from your cleric. Your other fighter might then have to go after the baddie approaching your frail mage, while your druid/fighter dual class character removes the poison that is rapidly draining said fighter's hp. Things get really interesting once enemy mages are thrown into the mix. The exhiliration comes from getting out of a particularly dicey battle with only a few hitpoints remaining as a result of good planning, decision making and use of magical items. The best aspects of the Baldur's Gate games are the characters and their interactions, the soundtrack and the story. The game is quite open-ended and lets you wander to different areas at your whim, but the story rarely lets you go for very long (although to be fair this is not always the case with the first game) without some reminder of what is going on in the big picture. It's almost a play-to-understand experience, really. There's a thread here on TL about the games, I recommend checking in there for more info.

I also encourage you to try Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, which is very fun. Other things to try are Bastion, Magicka. The Witcher is fun. Titan Quest is a good time sink, and Torchlight is solid Diablo gameplay.

A lot of people are mentioning true RPGs, which isn't the same thing at all. Of the ones mentioned, I'd say Torchlight and TQ are most comparable hack'n'slash games to it.

Anachronox Arcanum Beyond Good and Evil Planescape: Torment Warhammer: Dark omen There you go, probably close to 200 hours of pure joy. A heavy bias towards rpgs, but I'm either a competitive game, or rpg kinda guy. Dark omen is a minor exception, but one of my favourite games of all time, and something every person on this planet should have played imo.

Luckily Torchlight 2 will be coming out soon and it'll have multiplayer. I'll most likely pick it up myself when it's out

It can sometimes be kinda frustrating when you come around a corner and an opponent gets a lucky headshot from 100 meters distance and you drop dead without even seeing him, so I started quicksaving every minute or so. Definitely one of the hardest single player games I ever played. I am close to the end now and I think i hid the quickload button well over 300 times
