Spent this weekend looking at colleges. Talked to college counselor (mom's friend) talked to a few people I knew via the interwebs.

This is my rough list in order of where I would go. (although it's probably not really right)
0) Stanford
1) U Chicago
2) USC
3) UCLA/UCB
4) Rice
5) U Texas
5.1) Occidental
6) Other UCs
7) UCI
8) San Jose State

0) Won't get in. Can't afford it. Oh well.
1) Yes. Want to go. May not make it in. may not be able to afford
2) Probably will make in, will make 50% off for NM.
3) yeah, UCs. Probably have a worse shot than USC
4) Not a bad school in itself. Have a hard time placing it.
5) Good for my majors
5.1) Good school, like the area, will prob get in. Problem is they dont offer CS
6) Yeah. UCSB, UCD, UCSC, etc
7) UCI: Well, awesome SC community but really it's a backup.
8) Mom approved backup.

MY MOM GAVE ME THE HOUSE KEY. Finally giving me some room. Was really nice. finally was able to get the key, and not have to wait for my brother to get home >.>

Also, moved onto a new computer desk today. Hopefully in a month or so it goes to room. :D But in all seriousness, this desk lets me have room for everything. Roughly double the size of the other one, and the computer does not have to be on the floor.

Any advice for any of the above apps? Anybody go to one of those schools that wishes to talk to me? Hit me up :DD

Well. Econ/CS/Management.

Have not pinned it down. U Texas is just a UC alternative tbh.

^ Yeah. I like CS now, but screwing around in python and C++ is not the same as majoring in it... COuld also go EE.

Stanford offers excellent financial aid. What are your academic stats and significant extracurriculars? Not too sure why you would rank USC above UC Berkeley, as I thought UCB was ranked higher than USC and is more prestigious; am I wrong on this? If you have half-decent stats you'll easily get into Berkeley; they seem to be getting a bit lax with their admissions standards lately and it's not quite so prestigious that you really need much aside from good test scores and GPA.

Also consider the University of Washington for Computer Science, as it's ranked *very* highly for CS if I remember correctly, isn't excessively expensive compared to the UCs, and has fairly lenient admissions standards.

Internships. Plus price. I get 50% for national merit, which brings it below UC cost.

Hmm, I take it you live in California. In state tuition is a nice bonus.

Not sure what exactly you want to major in, but U of Chicago is probably the strangest university in the US. So if you want to go into theoretical economics, then they might have a good program for you. If you are interest in 'business' then it might not be for you.

If you're going to move halfway across the country for college, I'm not sure why you'd pick Rice over Texas. From what I've seen, Rice puts all their money into the natural sciences. Texas Business has a lot of money and it's good to rub elbows with some people.

Perhaps you should specify whether you wish to study economics or get a BBA for 'the business world'.
I'm not stupid, a marauder just shot my brain.

50% for National Merit? That's absolutely ridiculous (but good for you)!

@ Jerubaal. Instate is barely lower now

U Chicago is mostly theoretical. but their placement rates at Merrill Lynch, Bear-Stearns and stuff is absolutely incredibly.

I didn't know where to place rice >.> It's weighing benefits of private vs better programs in said areas.

But on a pure ranking basis Rice is 17, U texas is 40.

Are you applying to no schools on the east coast?

Cornell and CMU have very strong CS.

Was going to mention Cornell, which has a good AEM (applied economics and management) program.

USC is a great choice. We have a large growing esports community and an actual professor supporting the club. We have lots of fun and go out to eat/hang frequently. Not saying other schools won't be great too, but just saying USC is good for esport fans.

Come to Cornell! It may not be on your list, but the CS here is very strong, and as someone above me mentioned AEM is an excellent program which seems to be pretty much what you're looking for.

Unless your parents make a lot of money or you bombed your GPA and test scores, I think you are underestimating the amount of financial aid you can get at some places.

Are you able to visit any of the schools in person?

Have visited all but Rice/U Chi.

I'm not applying east coast, because my parents are less than excited (really strongly don't want me to) do so, and I do have medical stuff. SO being reasonably close IS a good thing.

Actually considered waterloo, but again due to health issues I really can't do it. Canada is great for the average joe, but I"m being treated by tertiary care centers: better to stay in the screwed up US.

Overruled them on chicago though.

I really don't think I have a chance in hell at CMU or Cornell lol.
