First of all, you're watching anime, which is already 90% weird and disgusting.
Second, the reason why it seems weird is because people actually look for this stuff and then use it to discriminate against the country, which makes even more people look for it and pile it on.
This stuff is very niche. It would be like generalizing 4chan to the US.

If you're awake at 2AM so you can watch this crap on TV, you're probably not a kid.
If you ARE awake at 2AM so you can watch this crap on TV, you're probably also a weirdo.

One thing that many people unfamiliar with "anime" fail to realize are these shows are not targeted at children in the first place. The shows listed on the front page are usually shown past midnight on weekdays, occupying paid timeslots similar to informercials we have in the west (Sham-WoW, Girls Gone Wild, etc), for the purpose of selling DVDs and BDs. They are alien to us, because we're so used to associate anything animated or drawn with children, rather than accepting that it's simply another form of mass medium like sitcom or movies.

The anime made for kids and watched by kids are the same ones that got eventually ported over state-side, yu-gi-oh, pokemon, sailor moon, etc. No, they don't let kids watch shows about 16-year old porn voice-actresses.
Thank God and gunrun.

This is a really important point. Because of Disney, animations in North America do get associated with children's entertainment like toys and games, even though the average video gamer is in their 20s or so.
4kids was infamous for censoring the crap out of One Piece, which had blood, cleavage, and death in the original Japanese version. Now Funimation us doing the dub work I believe?

This really is a 'horror' to you? I think you are a bit on the sensitive side if you think this is a prime example of weird anime.

I just watched episode 1 of R-15 expecting it to be ridiculous and it was.... barely anything worth mentioning let alone making a blog about.

I'm now curious. How do I watch something from the website he linked? Or do I need to find it myself somewhere?

He linked to myanimelist which is not a site for directly watching anime... it's for researching it and sharing lists of what you've seen, etc

Are you new to the interwebz or anime? And I also like how you finished watching the entire episode even though you're complaining about it and even looked up more related shit.

holy fuck what is this shit, that cutedeadguys site is fucked up just reading the front page. couldnt get myself to venture any further.

I wonder what your opinion on a series like Strike Witches is, where every scene shows at least 3 panty shots from underage girls. Or stuff like Highschool of the Dead that has fanservice in the most inappropriate places. ^^

Btw, did you read American Psycho?

half of NTR genre is old man rape so no thanks

The OP clearly has no idea about anime so I dont see a reason why you guys are even trying to tell him that his opinion is bullshit. It is the typical ignorant reaction comparable to what gamers have to go through when they tell someone who has no clue about gaming that they like playing and watching star craft

After the post of mine about recommendations, he send me a list of the anime he already watched and how he rated them, so he sure has a clue about it. And he even got good taste. The only thing he probably didn't know was the trend in the recent years to create crappy moe anime and "normal" anime which are borderline hentai.

What this guy said.

While it's cool and all that you wanna blog about your inability to understand another cultures foibles (instead gasping on the internet and hoping for more gasps), it's actually fairly fucking stupid to make such a generalizing derogatory statement about another country (let alone on an international site like TL).

You should go to Japan. From my own experience they are probably some of, if not, the most kind, considerate, and polite people in the world. It's a very different culture than the west, but you'll learn a lot more about why these kinds of things exist if you study the culture instead of of sitting on your hands going "lolwtf is this".

Don't mention that different regions have significantly different average IQ's. The Thought Police might give you a visit very soon.

Japan has a highly unsexual culture. People on the internet don't seem to understand that. Basically everything you know about Japan is the small reactionary fringe that is the product of this restrictiveness about sex.

There is no country where people have less sex than Japan. In Japan prostitution is illegal and pornography is completely censored.

Also, if you have ever seen Japanese porn you will realize even in pornography the idea that sex is something two people enjoy is pretty alien.

The reason why some Japanese male grope woman on the train is because they and their wives don't sleep in the same room, let alone in the same bed. It is not strange for wife and husband to sleep in separate rooms.
Also, many marriages are arranged marriages. Maybe that adds to it too.

One reason why there are so many western male & Japanese female couples compared to western female & Japanese male couples is because Japanese culture is still very conservative and male oriented and woman have to be perfect housewives. When we are at the point where Japanese females are often not conservative enough for Japanese males, how are they going to handle a western female?

Ooh and btw Tokyo is as much Japan as New York is the US or Amsterdam is the Netherlands.

Prostitution itself is illegal but there are enough holes to slip through. So it's only illegal in theory but not in praxis. The porn industry(movies) is huge and you can get whatever you can imagine(that was probably what SarR was referring to). Officially sold porn is censored, yeah, but unofficial is not. Anyway, it's not like the law was made in recent times, so it doesn't really apply to the current state. It just happens that they don't care enough to abolish it.

Other than that, the hentai market is booming as well. It's just a genre of anime but it's gigantic in comparison. Whatever you can imagine applies here as well.

And there you see where the interest in sex goes

(Also, some school girls in Japan sell themselves to get money, so that's another aspect. It's probably better to say that Japan has everything but normal sex.)

Another point is that the men often work hard and long, so they don't really have time for sex with their wifes anyway.

Of course prostitution being illegal doesn't mean it isn't there. Prostitution once was legal but they banned it in more recent times.

The law assumes porn is banned. But still pornography in whatever form being more popular than expected is exactly the result of restrictiveness about sex in Japanese culture.
You see on the internet sometimes reactions like "omg they allow the craziest types of porn, but now they are suddenly so prude?"

The point is and remains that Japanese society is often the complete opposite of what people think it is. Just because there's a couple of crazy wild young people and a couple of perverts doesn't change that.

In Japan you don't even talk about sex, period. And often you don't have any either. Now the US is also a conservative country so maybe it is different from Americans. But if you are from Sweden or the Netherlands, it is more obvious.

Oh Come on. That argument is totally old and invalid. Its not like sedentary work for entire day makes someone so tired as to not be capable of 5 minutes of physical activity.
