When did you start following the scene? Start playing BW? 3. What site(s) are best for BW news? I saw that Fomos moved it from their first tab on the home page. Is PlayXP still the only SC2 news? DES has some stuff iirc. Are you old school enough to remember FighterForum? I came back to the scene and was surprised it was gone. 4. From what we know now MBCGame wouldn't go down until 2012. If this were to happen, do you think the viewership would bolster Ongamenet ratings, or are the audiences essentially the same people? 5. September: will BW progamers actually switch (other than B-teamers), or is or is that blind optimism from SC2ers? Do you think the S-Class or A-teamers would demolish the current Code S? 6. What motivated you to branch out from being solely BW into the SC2 scene? I go back and forth depending on my faith in the game's future / comparisons with BW as an esport. How exciting is the game to you? Are you concerned with the fewer differentiators of skill, or is it good that more players can compete equally with one another? 7. If the "perfect" situation for SC2 in Korea were to occur (for maximum growth - on both channels in Starleague/MSL/Proleague, fans enjoying it), would it even matter, considering they are 60th and 70th rated on cable now? 8. Is esports dying in Korea? What is the general consensus among netizens? I can't imagine everyone involved in the industry for over 10 years just giving up. What do you think can be done? 9. Is the move of Proleague finals back to Korea good or bad on the whole? (pleases Korean fans, but denies new Chinese market) Will going for the Chinese market ultimately be worthwhile, or too late? 10. Do you know if OGN/MBC can broadcast SC2 (other than WCG) with GOMTV's permission, before the contract expires? Which commentator is your favorite? How do GOMTV's compare, if you've watched them? If you answer all of these, you are a god. I'm sure there are some other people interested. Sorry if I repeated any questions. Post Script: do you like Pocari Sweat? 1) Dunno, I've only found one class legitimately difficult (that is, no matter how much time I poured in, I couldn't get it down perfect), but then again I can't really say that since I never put in much effort into all of my classes. I also took harder classes than most people who does econ so I'm not too sure I'm a good person to say anything about. 2) Jaedong is my current favorite progamer. His mentality and his attitude to the game, pretty much. I like Flash too because of how he approaches the game. I started following the scene December 2009, although I played BW on and off before then. 3) Fomos and DES are the only two sites that really cover it. 4) Too hard to call. 5) Some might, some won't. A lot of it is blind optimism, but it's mostly selfishness -- if BW players switch to SC2, for the most part, the BW players will be losing out on a stable lifestyle and a well payed salary that is a lot more than what most SC2 teams can really pay them. So I wouldn't even call it optimism but selfishness. When the time comes then many players will switch. 6) I watched TSL, but MLG Columbus is when I started branching out to SC2? I still enjoy watching BW better but every now and then SC2 produces BW level games. Not really concerned with smaller differentials of skill, since people with skill will always find a way to differentiate themselves through one way or another. 7) they're 60th and 70th overall, but PL games and Starleague gets pretty high ratings overall, and they're high up there within their targeted demographics. If marketed decently and if BW swaps to SC2, then SC2 should see a huge boost from being on OGN/MBC Game 8) Everyone always says esports is dying, actually. Since I don't work in the industry, I can't really answer that. But my gut feeling is telling me that something is wrong and people are trying to jump ship. 9) Honestly that entire ordeal felt like a nail in the coffin for BW to me. It really sucks that they put in so much money and so much effort and all this despite the angry fans (who doesn't even pay money, btw) protests and then to have it get shut down by a typhoon. It just feels like something just totally fucked them over. 10) they can broadcast SC2 with Gom's permission but not GSL until a year is over since anibox has exclusive rights to that. PS: Who doesn't like pocari sweat?

What other hands on events are you planning on attending? Are you going to go to every efrom now on? Most awkward moment with a progamer? What kind of milk did Boxer drink? Did you expect your blog to immediately explode? When will you give up? I got involved in MLG due to my involvement in TL. MLG needed a translator back in Columbus, asked TL, and TL admins asked few of the translators and I happened to be able to make it. In terms of events: I don't know. I'll probably go to the future MLGs and that should keep me busy. Awkward moment? Probably when MC walked right past me and Alyssa when we were picking him at the airport. You can read about that on my columbus blog :p Milk? No idea. And I wouldn't call this exploding at all :p On August 07 2011 18:17 FishBones wrote: What is/are your favourite IU song/s? It feels like you've been part of the scene forever ._. Also makes me feel sad because I started following it in 2009 as well, and look where it has gotten me (i.e. I haven't contributed anything, not "WTF why am I not cool and famous too").

(no need to name them of course) Who are the people you think should get more credit? Regarding the first part: I'm not the one to judge if someone gets more credit than they deserve. After all, it's the opinion of the masses that matter in this case, not my own personal opinion. Regarding the second part: But because people aren't too aware of some contributors in the scene, there are people who don't get enough. I would say translators like phosgene who has done GSL stuff consistently for a few months definitely deserves more credit, or people like disciple and HawaiianPig who does gfx for everything, or just MLG staff such as Lee and Alyssa and Ryan and the girl who runs the info booths, and so on. There's a ton of people I probably don't know well enough to give them credit either. On August 07 2011 19:03 Vasoline73 wrote: Is this a replay? Or do you have the game mixed up? I meant Hogil! No formal learning of Korean. I just read a lot so my reading/listening Korean is good, but my writing/talking could use a bit more work. I also do use the dictionary when I translate, mostly because there are words I know what they mean but it's quite hard to get the concept quite down when you're trying to bring the same tone into another language. As for all nighters at Uchicago: Yeah, I remember having quite a number of them. I think overall I averaged two allnighters a week, until my last quarter where I slept a full 10 hours a day and didn't have to do much since i took 3 "normal" classes. I'm an American Citizen, so no need for goondae. Do you believe that foreign commentators should be more excited while commentating? Like when the korean casters go all screamy and everything. Personally I get really hyped when they get that excited but I never really see the foreign casters do that :/ It's hard to bring the same level of excitement, I think, since a lot of it has to do with language perhaps? It's really hard to really tell. In Korea they have casters and commentators and casters do a good job hyping and bringing in excitement, and commentators who do a good job analyzing the picture. I think the foreign scene definitely needs more commentators, but also at the same time commentators who package things well and don't just say "oh this build vs this build, the game is over" but to analyze the game further than that and talk about possibilities of comebacks and such. I really wish more people could understand Korean to see how the Korean commentators are because I think there's a lot to learn from them. Addendum: no other people or settlements on the island. There's the jungle, mountains, and the beach. As an aspiring translator myself, I really admire the work you do. Any advice on the actual translating process would be greatly appreciated! My English -> Korean is mostly "bad" because I lack the vocabulary and thus the way I express things are a little odd (and I'm not used to it). It's been improving though. My English -> Korean is getting better translating, I'm hoping that will help me when I interpret. I've been translating Korean -> English for so long that I'm pretty used to most of the vocabulary so I know how to translate them pretty well, or at least, that's what I like to think so (all those hours spent translating somehow matters!).
