So I was playing a ZvT on Shakuras Platea and I was on 5 base over his 2 base. I had just killed 3 of his tanks, burrowed baneling busted a lot of his marines. He sieges up in the middle of map. I start getting a call from my mother(Recently Diagnosed with Lung Cancer 2 months ago. It's besides the point. but just saying) I say PP 1 sec please, my mom needs help. I pause. I go to my mom she wanted me to put away some stuff and get her icecream.
So I do that, in the process knock over a glass which is still in my kitchen in pieces. I get back to my computer and hes killed almost all of my bases and I go WTF? He says you were longer than 2 minutes. I came back maybe 2 minutes after 2 minutes. I am so very pissed off. I don't know what do with myself. I never make blogs, i rarely post.
I am sooo pissed off. The asshole knew he was going to lose. asdjfk;ladsjflasdjflakdsjfladsfjka. How do you find Character codes? This guy was complete dick. I have replay if people want to see.
His name is Affix.
I think I'm being way too emotional about this, but whatever. Made me really upset. He is low masters and I can never win a game against masters and I am so close to being promoted. SOoo frustrated
Edit: I posted this pretty frustrated, I calmed down once I walked away from the computer afterwards. I feel that people should be little bit more patient with other people. Use the golden rule, Treat others like you would like to be treated. I feel a lot better now that I have released my stress in this blog. Isn't that kinda what blogs are for?

You probably should stay long enough to make sure your opponent agrees to waiting when you pause.

Ladder games are much less important than family. Learn to accept the loss.
Also, you should be grateful he even let you pause in the first place. A lot of people insta-unpause regardless of the reason

FortyOzs, I know I can't expect people to do it. I'm really just using this as an avenue to vent. I don't have anyone else I really play with and no one around that can understand. I'm just saying hes a dick for not waiting another 2 minutes.

101toss, I really dont care about the loss, i can get the points back easily, and I really don't care about the situation anymore. I posted this out of frustration. Nah, I'm not grateful, because most people actually wait.

You could give us your info and we could find it in your match history. (I'm not saying you should do this, I'm just saying it's an option. I don't know if it could be considered cheating on his part, or right for us to report, or if TL is the right avenue for doing this: it's just an idea).

I wouldn't say "one sec", it is very vague and the opponent won't know roughly how long to wait for. Usually I say the exact time I expect to be away, and if I pass that rtime then I can't even blame him for starting without me

I'd unpause in his position too. I don't really care about ladder games and I really don't believe in pausing for more than more than a minute. If something is so important that you really need to pause then just leave the game (unless you have to go get the door or something thats really quick). It's just a game, don't waste my time sitting around waiting for you for you, especially when I have no idea how long you are going to take.

Calm down. Take a deep breath, and count to 10. Even if you lose, it's just a game. Who you are as a person isn't decided by a number that pops up in your battle.net profile.
It sucks that you didn't get to play your game out, but that's life. By stepping away from the computer, you knowingly take on the risk of him unpausing it. But more importantly, you signified that your mother was more important than a single game that you'll forget about in the future. It also helps to slow down and not rush yourself, I find that accidents (like knocking glasses over) happen less often if I take things slowly

In your position, I would just leave the game, its just points anyways. Better then wasting your opponents time.

I don't feel I should waste 20 minutes of my time because I have to go AFK for no more than 5 minutes. I mean really? I was not gone for longer than 2 minutes. I'm not going to just leave. I think that's a little ridiculous.

Its just ladder points when you think about the amount of games you play it really dosent mean that much.

why does it matter, it's just one game. I don't think it's fair to expect players to wait for you for over a minute. And it's not a matter of winning or losing.. i just don't want to be staring at a screen waiting for someone for an unknown amount of time

You have no idea what this guy is doing with his life, maybe he has something important to do and doesn't have time to wait for some random who said he'd only be a second?

I understand its just a game and just ladder points. But this is just discussing it. Vocalizing what i had in my head. I can easily get these points back I understand. It's just the principle. I just wish I got the same courtesy as I give other players.
Why does it matter? Because its upsetting, to watch you what you worked on for 20 minutes go to waste as you were AFK for 2 minutes. Getsome, have you ever had a 20-30 minute game, then have something unexpected come up, then come back 2 minutes later from a game you were winning and have this player destroying your bases? How would you feel? I'm not expecting these players to wait, but at the same time, who is this person? I have played thousands upon thousands of games where most players are nice enough to wait 5-10 minutes. I've waited 30 minutes. This is the first time I've experienced someone unpausing.

Sarang, I do not expect this person to know what happened with mother. My mother having lung cancer has nothing to do with this.
And I do know because of the what he was saying to me and the fact that he was in another game after the fact. This person just wanted to win, he WAS going to lose.
I don't get how 5 minutes appears to be so uncomfortable for some people. I have a feeling that the people who are saying that they don't want to wait 5 minutes are younger in age.

honestly it's not his fault for unpausing i've been in plenty of situations where I pause ask for a sec come bback about a minute later with the game already unpaused. it's online it happens don't expect ppl to wait for you.

I'm very passionate about my gaming, I'm going to get upset. I think there would be something wrong if I didn't get upset. I haven't let it go, because it was a learning experience. I think anyone that just lets it go, doesn't care. Or doesn't have the drive.
I don't know if you're reading much of any of this, because I clearly stated that I have since calmed down, its no big deal. I wrote this RIGHT after it happened lol.

ive had a situation where I needed to pause but just left the game because I didnt trust the guy to not unpause because if someone unpaused a game from me it would really ruin my day and id be super pissed. btw if it is the affix im thinking of he is a huge loser

unless it's just tabbing to fix sound/mouse or keyboard error which will take 30 second, i usually leave the game instead.
Not saying what he did was right and you have no right in venting, just a personal preference.
The one thing i hate about people who PP 1 sec without telling the exact time is that you can't really alt tab and do other things or walk away grab a food or something because you don't know when he will be back and unpause. I've had people PP and then i went to the washroom in the meantime and when i got back he already unpaused and was attacking my army. He said i didn't reply to him and don't know when i will be back so he just unpaused. Sigh. so ironic.

People want to play the game. While it's usually fine to wait a few seconds, expecting your opponent to waste minutes on end of his time just to fucking sit there and wait for you to get back is a ridiculous expectation. If you have to do something that really takes that long, then just leave the game and take the ladder point hit, it's not the end of the world. You spent more time making this shit blog in the first place then you could've spent just getting the ladder points back in a new game.

Actually have a counter-example. I was playing a match for TSL-2 and my dog came out and went over to the door. If I didn't let him out pretty quickly, there was a significant chance he would piss on the sofa, or the wall, or anything else with a porous surface.
So I just say "sec please", and it really did take my only like 20 seconds but the guy waited for me. So, whoever F.A.O.D on iCCup was, kudos to you.

Haha Tele! I've had to do that as well. Due to my mom being ill, we got her a new puppy! I've had to stop him from going poo. I picked him up then paused the game. They waited.

If it is the Affix who used to play WoW then he used to be a little bit of a dick, but either way thats a douche move unpausing. Shows that someone obviously takes his stats too seriously.
In the Lindsey Sporrer interview Affix is the one texting another former WoW player, Mortale I believe. He was the one on camera.
To OP, it sucks but you will get over it. Ladder means nothing and anonymity makes people douches.

Ha, so a very similar situation happened to me the other day on ladder.
At the very begining of the game my phone flashed that it had only 20% battery life left.

I got up and walked over to my nightstand to plug in my phone and as soon as I sat back down without saying anything my opponent unpaused the game.
I thought about being like "wow bm jerk wtf learn manners etc, etc.
BUT being a starcraft player, I thought about the situation strategically. If he thinks I am gone but I'm not, that DEFINITELY gives me the advantage. It was PvZ so I did process of elimination of build in my head
a) He 6pools or something stupid like that
b) he goes immediate expo hatch for econ advantage
Being a protoss player I weighed my options and decided he would go for the easy macro win, instead of the possible cheese win.
End of story Hard 4gate > 2 hatcheries without roach tech or sunkens ^^

If someone's not back within 2 minutes of pausing it's well within their rights to unpause. If something's so important that you can't go back to your game within a couple minutes it's important enough to lose the game for.
It's really ridiculous to expect someone to wait 10 minutes when average game length is about that long.

How can you honestly expect people to wait 4 minutes for you in a game when you say gimme 1 second?
The average game length in irl minutes is less than 10 minutes long (much lower on ladder usually), so to wait 4 minutes is a pretty big thing to ask a random stranger to do for you.
It sucks, yeah, but whatever, it's just one game and at least you know you could have won without your opponent getting to play without you

You did the right thing by pausing the game and helping out your mother. I understand why you were frustrated at first because I sometimes have to leave the computer in the middle of DOTA to kill a spider in my sister's room (she seriously can't do it herself because she's genuinely scared/disgusted), come back and I'm being blamed by teammates for all sorts of shit.
Oh well, as you realized yourself, a couple minutes off the game and it's all cool.

You can't expect people to wait for you, especially when they don't know you're situation.
I played vs a guy one time and he paused and I waited for 5 minutes, and then about 10 mins later, he paused again, another 5 minutes of waiting. Then for the third time, he paused, I said screw it after 30 secs and unpaused. You can only expect people to wait for so long.
It's annoying when you have to wait for someone to unpause, especially mid game like that. It makes you lose your train of thought, and even slows you down sometimes.
