I was wondering what people find the most annoying forum meme replies.
Like the reply to a very big, well thought out and written OP with "this"
Some more examples:
"This"
tldr
First!
/thread
lawl U mad bro? U jelly?
You heard it here first / calling this now
Fail x is fail
"The statement Below is false" / "The statement above is true"
in before ...
QQ more
TALKING IN ALL CAPS
"haters gonna hate"
race X is imba/OP/UP
QFT
“I'm looking at you____.”
just my 2c
Trolololol
(╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻
herp derp
cool story bro
I'm sure there are a lot more Personally if find "you heard it here first" the current most annoying one
Additions:
" i know i am going to get banned for this"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
you are hurting esports / this is killing esports
you Sir, ....
<name> Hwaiting!
lulz, lolzors etc
L2P
lol (just lol as only word in the reply)
+1
OPs that end with a "Discuss"
starting sentences with le

this blag is just warranting a flood of memes or its place in Closed threads :/ you mentioned a whole lot people can identify themselves with anyway so they can point "yeah that one, oh i know what you feel"
|
'Cool story bro' drives me nuts, I'm not sure why as I'm usually pretty good at ignoring trolls.
Love the table flipping meme though. ^^

tl:dr bothers me the most. Simply because of the frequency with which people post it in response to truly good, comprehensive posts. Someone makes a great contribution and then someone shits all over it by going "tl:dr" just GRINDS MY GEARS har har

I agree with this, table flip doesn't really annoy me just because it makes me giggle. I spend a decent amount of time on d2jsp and that is extremely annoying. Haha, however on TL memes aren't very bad because mods and banlings are very attentive :D
|
"Person XXX is trolling"
"In before the lock" makes me laugh, and they end up getting banned.
|
you forgot the funniest one that gets 100% ban and its pretty funny to read @ the banlist thread
" i know i am going to get banned for this" "i am gonna get banned for this but " and they write their stuff
|
oh qq more would you?
in all honesty though i find memes incredibly annoying. they are just everywhere now where the forums are not moderated well (one reason why i'm always on TL). one trip to the league of legends general forum and you'll see multiple memes everywhere
edit: also ESPORTS is getting on my nerves now D:

Lol "bro" makes me laugh so much, I've been using it so much lately. Something about bro makes the situation seem so laughable/not serious.
I dislike the term "ESPORTS" actually. Just everything about makes me think of silver league players who watch sc2 all day and barely even play.

This can still be funny when it's not a meme, for example there's a person on d2jsp who posts "rock yo bosy" at the bottom of every post rather than put it in their signature. This legitimately makes me giggle every time I see it.

You mean like http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Redundancy ?

Thanks god, almost all of them are a bannable offense on TL.
The only one that still makes me laugh is when someone posts "my dick is hard" as a first comment of an epic announcement.
I'm not sure if it's a meme, but I really don't like the "You sir, <insert something here>" formula. I just fail to see why people keep using it.

OT: I don't really mind forum memes too much, just scroll right past them since they don't really add much of anything to the thread. Sometimes they can be a bit funny though.

"Hwaiting" just means "Fighting" with pretending Korean accent since Koreans have difficulties to pronounce F.
|
Aye, it was used as a form of encouragement for the Korean 2002 World Cup Team to do the very best they can.
It originated from a now out-of-business Cell Phone company with the initials KTF. The company used the initials to say "Korea Team Fighting" for the 2002 World Cup Korean Soccer Team. It has since been shortened to "fighting."

When I just want to quickly go through the forums or feel just lazy I use tl;dr which is why I think its pretty good. However I do try my best to read all of the thread because of all the hard work that the OP has done to write his/her thread.
You dont get to see a lot of these memes in TL <3
|
On August 02 2011 20:48 SaRrAceN wrote: [insert name here] HWAITING!! Aside from not know wtf "hwaiting" means, the pronunciation of it is beyond fuckin annoying. Every time I see this I cringe.
It started in Brood War proleagues when, as the countdown that began the game was going, the audience would cheer, "(1, 2, 3) -insert player's name- fighting!", then another group of the audience would do the same for the other player, whomever they supported. However because of the korean accent, "fighting" sounded more like "hwaiting". So before a match for example, you'd always hear "hana..dul..set...Lee Jae Dong hwaiting!", and then a pause, and then the same for the other player.
It's transferred over a bit to sc2 but not as dominant as it was in the proleagues.

He's flipping a table
The (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ has spread like wildfire starting exclusively in the Starcraft 2 community when major streamers for the e-sport had begun getting widespread ddos attacks (Denial of Service). On 7/03/11, many viewers of the streams noticed a concerning amount of downtime from these attacks when one single poster by the name of johnelwaysteeth channeled his rage into one simple emoticon: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. He was so mad he was starting to flip tables and fuck shit up. This caused a overflow of spam on the reddit thread of it, and a hand full of different variations. The original poster received a influx of upvotes as the spammers were mass downvoted. The meme continues a very strong showing on r/starcraft, as well as most online streamer’s for Starcraft 2, ecspecially ROOTDestiny’s stream.

I could have swore herp derp was a bannable offense though. it rightfully should be.
I've seen people right mountains of text explaining a topic for some retard to come and go "herp derp what are hydras" not even get warned for it, and thats all they say.
Or add on some irrelevant shit sentence to cover it up

You're welcome
By the way, Table flipping was used so much eventually on some stream chats that they made it a bannable offense. Like 50% or more of the chat was table flipping which made it too hard to read anything. It seems to be a bit less now. It was very funny when DongRaeGu typed it during his MLG game though =) Made people aware of how attached to the community he is. Everything has it's place and time, something can be considered very annoying but once in a while very funny in the right occasion.

It bothers me whenever someone is trying to have a serious discussion and a meme shuts it down completely from the start.
"lawl U mad bro? U jelly?"
Or when this one is used when someone can't defend themselves with arguments.

Since when is "*Player* Hwaiting!" a meme and why do people hate it? Its origins weren't formed online and it was hardly ever widespread. I've always seen it as an endearing encouragement for a player.

Hwaiting is a Konglish term that has been around forever. It's origins have nothing to do with SC. Although Korean is my mother tongue, I am also a native English speaker.. and I still cringe when I hear it.. since it makes no sense whatsoever. -_-;;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme:
An Internet meme is an idea that is propagated through the World Wide Web. The idea may take the form of a hyperlink, video, picture, website, hashtag, or just a word or phrase, such as intentionally misspelling the word "more" as "moar". The meme may spread from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, news sources, or other web-based services.
Debatable I guess, it's not formed online, but it is spread online and it fits the rest of the definition quite well. Not widespread, hmm, I do think it's recurring quite often at least in the starcraft community? I often see it on TL.
But I agree that it's not annoying, at least for me personally. Maybe for Koreans, because it's making fun of their pronunciation?
Edit: I guess so

Maybe its just me but it seems way more concentrated to TL and specifically the seasoned BW fans. I would hardly consider that widespread considering the greater community. Though I guess technically it doesn't have to be widespread to be a meme, I guess I consider a meme being widespread a prerequisite for it being hated.
On August 02 2011 21:42 silentreality wrote: Hwaiting is a Konglish term that has been around forever. It's origins have nothing to do with SC. Forgive me if its really that annoying, I just wasn't aware there were people out there that rued it so. Perhaps my old BW mind hasn't realized the changing times but I think this is one I'll have to stand by through the thick and thin.
Just seems odd that a term of encouragement is hated enough to be listed among some of these other memes.
Edit: I yelled out "Park Sung Joon Hwaiting" at MLG Columbus and I swear I got nothing but blanks stares from everyone around me and maybe 1 or 2 chuckles. Maybe this was just people silently shunning me for using a phrase they hate and me being totally oblivious but it really seems people were more puzzled.
|
There is nothing wrong with encouraging/cheering your favorite players on. Its just that with so many clever people here, im sure someone could come up with other cute little catchphrases and whatnot for the purpose of showing support. Seeing the same one being used over and over again is the annoying aspect of it.

I agree that most of these are annoying, maybe except for "___ hwaitiing!" because it's meant in good competitive spirit, not to be clever or anything. If it's just saying "___ hwaitiing!" though then obv. it would be wise to add something more substantive.

I hate the "____ Hwaiting!" as some others apparently do, i thought it was just me. It feels like a lame attempt at being funny/cool with another language. I also hate the "me gusta" meme and pretty much any other "look at me i use foreign terms because i'm hip" phrases.

I didn't see any harm in that, because it is a positive reply, I found it a really funny post and nobody reacted to it yet.
I mean I really understand people finding tl:dr as sole reply annoying, because it's kind of a negative reply, but when you see a post that made you laugh, and it got no replies, isn't it better to post that you liked it than to not post? On the other hand, while thinking more about it, "this" is also a positive reply and I find that one very annoying.

Yeah same here. And what is it supposed to mean? Is it like the word "le" in French (that means "the" in English)? Or is it something else retarded that I don't understand?

If those memes just affect you that much you should try to is to ignore them (very hard to do because they are EVERYWHERE, I know). If you aren't a Internet newbie you already know that these kind of memes always existed and will always exist so try not to get so upset with them.

Also Everytime someone makes a reply that some other user agrees he quotes the person and writes +1 <- its like saying yeah i agree and people get warned/banned :p pretty neat

Teamliquid always was a "safe haven" on the internet where stupidity got punished. Though it's impossible to keep all stupidity out mods did a good job so far. Honestly, I don't like the internet community very much because there are so many idiots, but Teamliquid as a site and community I like very much - even though the mods still seem way too lenient for my taste. I haven't lost faith that the use of these memes can be reduced.

most of the stuff you put here would get someone a ban or warning on this website. <3

What do you have against "<name> Hwaiting?"
|
How is hater's should be at the top of the list. Seriously. (Just found it x-x)
It's a shame people don't get banned for them. The quality on these forums would definitely improve if that were the case.
|
I completely agree. I had 95% of memes used even here on TL. I wish people would use their own words and ideas more.
|
The only one I really find annoying is "u mad bro" just over-used and an obvious sign of a deficit in intelligence and social stigma -.-. Other than that I find flippin' tables quite funny )
|
I cannot stand OPs that end with a "Discuss". Even if the subject was interesting and an argument well thought out, ending with that "discuss" line makes me feel a tiny bit angry and insulted.
|
lolcat speak or whatever, 'hai' instead of 'hi' and shit like that and anything else that involves intentionally spelling words wrong.

I can't give you a picture right now since I'm at work but I can give you examples.
*le walking to taco bell or *le gf making supper or *le me watching tv
What the hell does that even mean?

- haters gonna hate - +1 / This - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also I hate when people reply before reading the OP.
Anyway I must admit that I love the "QQ more" and the "L2P" ones. These are good arguments against any balance whine really.

Don't see why you're so mad about something that happens at every match in Korea. Don't see why you're watching SC when you can't even support your favorite players.
Haters gonna hate. U just gotta sk8.

This is interesting because these 'memes' come about in exactly the same way that ordinary words arise in spoken language.
From a linguist's standpoint, the fact that some words/memes are banned in a forum in order to promote orderly discussion is fascinating-- we often think of ordinary conversation as the primordial engine that drives language change, and there is no real equivalent to this in ordinary spoken conversation. Society kind of bans swear-words, but its not really directly comparable.
|
I really really hate "u mad brah?" or any of its brothers (ha). I hate it so much because it actually gets a rise out of me. Anything remotely condescending tends to do that to me. It makes me want to fight the person who says it.

I hate how selective many people are about which memes are funny and which are not. Different communities praise and hate different memes.
Not sure if it qualifies as a meme but every time someone mentions artificial intelligence, robots or just some types of software there are a bunch of "OMG LOLOLOL SKYNET IS COMING LOLOL XDXDXDXDXD" posts which I really really hate. Also all the "MY DICK IS HARD" or "I CAME BUCKETS LOL" and crap like that which are posted in every news announcement on every game forum including TL.
I hate any meme which a community thinks it invented but is really just an old rehashed 4chan/ebaums/SA meme.

Yes that is annoying

This is just a list of all the memes used on forums
Thank goodness most of them are banned.
|
I hate all of them. I'm not talking about macro image funnies that originate from SA and 4chan (image+text), but forum memes (text-only) like those listed in the OP. When I discuss things with people, I do it in order to relay actual thought. The entire point of these memes is to stop thought and throw out a canned response, as opposed to formulating any real thought and adding to a discussion.
|
That's funny OP because I was wondering what people find the most annoying forum meme replies.
Like the reply to a very big, well thought out and written OP with "this"
Some more examples:
"This"
tldr
First!
/thread
lawl U mad bro? U jelly?
You heard it here first / calling this now
Fail x is fail
"The statement Below is false" / "The statement above is true"
in before ...
QQ more
TALKING IN ALL CAPS
"haters gonna hate"
race X is imba/OP/UP
QFT
“I'm looking at you____.”
just my 2c
Trolololol
(╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻
herp derp
cool story bro
I'm sure there are a lot more Personally if find "you heard it here first" the current most annoying one
Additions:
" i know i am going to get banned for this"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
you are hurting esports / this is killing esports
you Sir, ....
<name> Hwaiting!
lulz, lolzors etc
L2P
lol (just lol as only word in the reply)
+1
OPs that end with a "Discuss"
starting sentences with le

I can't stand seeing TL;DR. If you didn't even bother to read it then gtfo ~_~

I can't help but wonder if this thread was used as a dumping ground just so the OP could get it all out of his system. Or maybe it's an undercover OP sponsored by TL to focus all the memes into one area...

The word E-Sports definitely.
The word has been losing it's value and now is tossed around like STD's.

You gotta skate? Eh, I should know better than to try to add something to a thread with 6 pages, and hope that it isn't already there, instead of reading through all 6.
I think all memes have their place. The only reason people start to hate them is bandwagoners. At least that's my theory.

Oh and also, I hate "LOOOOL".
I know we all did this before, but quoting a long paragraph on a forum and just typing "LOOOOOOOL" is annoying as hell.
|
In some posts I see something that mentions Chuck Norris, I personally dont mind this and I use it as a lame source of amusement but I guess some people find it annoying
|
I could care less about people who use memes on the internet... Use it in daily conversation and the people around you will want to stab you.
|
Well not all memes are annoying, just the overused and downright retarded ones. I love most image macros. When they are used here, they are most often used cleverly. When someone goes beserk on the the forums and receives a "U mad bro ?" , it always makes me laugh.
Thing is that some people try to used them for cheap humor without regard for context and its just retarded and annoying.

It's very true, most of those are relatively annoying but given the proper context, they can be pretty funny.

Had to find this thread again after the EG mystery announcement of an announcement.
Holy shit, if there's ever been something on this forum that's made my blood boil, then it's the excessive use of the word "troll". God damn, 10 instances of it on every page, almost never being used correctly or how it was originally intended on the internet.
Fuck I needed to rant about that.

Just because some has a different opinion than yours doesn't mean they're a troll.
Every time you say the word troll it gives it less and less meaning. People need to go to urbandictionary and look up the definition because it's insulting the real trolls out there who work HARD to get banned.
also: "/endrant" it doesn't validate anything you just said.

'Trolling'. I saw a thing on FB and all it was was a link saying "See Also" (like what it says at the bottom of a long FB post) and you click it and it says "You've been trolled!". How is that trolling? It's not clever, it's not really tricking anyone and it's not even annoying. That word is essentially meaningless these days (and I never liked it to begin with).
'pl0x'. I. Cannot. Stand. This.
To be honest I hate almost all internet memes. Memes in real conversation aren't too bad. Most of them are subtle and come/go quickly or mutate to remain interesting/funny. There's some that suck, but mostly it's okay. But internet memes seem to persist FOREVER.
Perhaps the one 'meme' I can let slide is '/sarcasm' or '/insert_word_here', since that is an actual tool of communication to lessen the limits of text interaction. Sometimes a person's sarcasm isn't actually that obvious, and '/sarcasm' can make things a lot clearer in those situations.
|
CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS MENTIO-
no one gives a fuck.
|
In general I like internet speak except for '/thread.' It's the internet equivalent of saying 'gg' before the person who lost the game does, except in this case it's an internet argument and one or both parties may be totally wrong.
Another one I kinda hate is when someone says 'nothing to see here, folks'. You do not have the final say on the internet.
|
Many of those are not memes persay more like typical post formats. The type of posts that bother me the most are ones that ask what people find annoying.
