awww... so cute!!!! <3 every time i see a puppy, i want one myself. as for the tips, i have no idea, but an idea i have (could be stupid) is for the first couple of days, watch the timing of when she does her business, so at those times, you can like walk her and she'll do it in the grass and not in your house... but make sure you carry a plastic bag with you to pick up the poop.

just an idea, remember i have no experience with dogs, its just a theoretical idea.

Yeah I think I have a good method for potty time. I take her out side and use a command every hour or so. seems to be working. Very few accidents so far! Now only if I could get rid of that bark!! haha

One way to potty train is to take them outside right after they go in the house as well.

I wish i could have a dog where i live <.<.

It depends on what you want to train your puppy to do.

I personally trained my new puppy how to dodge cars because my first dog got hit by a car and it was very tragic. To prevent this from happening again we had to train our new puppy to avoid cars through a 3 phase process.

I started first by throwing wrenches at him at first it caught him off guard and he even got knocked out a few times but he was ok afterwards. In 2 days he became a wrench dodging pro.

So I moved up to the next level of training, running him down with a four wheeler. He learned quickly to get out of the way of a quad, its painful and scary. He may of broken a leg or two and his tail got crushed but he survived.

For the final phase every time he ran up to our car as I was pulling into the drive way I would step on the gas, he learned and to this day hes still alive.

7 Months old however he may be a bit brain damaged from his rigorous training because he walks and runs a little lop sided or maybe its because of his previous injuries of broken legs. I don't know I'm not a veterinarian.

I think next I'll train him how to play fetch

A little over a year ago (one year and one month to be exact) I got a miniature poodle. I love him to death! Congrats on getting an adorable looking puppy and enjoy every moment you have with him/her.

What kind of breed is it by the way?

Cuteee...

If I were you, I'd teach your little pup the command "Leave it." It's by far my most favorite and under-used command. It's different than the traditional "No" because it's not really a case of the dog being in trouble, but instead a pre-emptive "hey, stop doing what you're doing currently because you're gonna get in trouble."

Use it when she's getting into something, about to go after something she shouldn't, or too bothered to listen to you because she's pre-occupied following a scent or something. After that you can just push her away and re-direct her attention from whatever it is, perhaps punishing her in some form, and eventually she'll understand that when you say it, she needs to give up on whatever little quest she's on.

It's not so much about teaching her all the things not to do (As 'No' and 'Bad' traditionally do), it's about teaching her that when you say "Leave it" she needs to drop whatever she's doing and do something else.

Just my 2 cents, best of luck with your puppy. =)

You should find local puppy schools/puppy gatherings to learn more tips. A lot of stuff goes into taking care of a new puppy

Cute! Me and my other half havent long got a Border Collie pup only 12 weeks old atm and her with our other puppy who now 14 months they are bonkers!!!!

Running everywhere at least they dont need muchw alking lol

Anyway what you want to do is make sure she has a confined space and not let her roam to begin with, paper down covering small areas with traiing pads, when she pees on the pads congrautlate here and in a week or two take away the paper slowly only congratulating her if she pees or poos on the pad, soon she should only be going on pads and then ina few weeks you can try taking pads away and taking her outside im presuming she cant go outside yet? I know in uk you need two injections first so not sure if its same there?

EDIT: One thin with our first puppy was to notice if she was sniffing, if she does its normally a sign she will need to go to toilet.

Anyway to get her to start learning u need patience and treats(soft ones for puppies) and it wont take her long to start listening. Just mak esure you congratulate her on anything she does correct and make sure you tell her off for doing things wrong but DO NOT do it so shes gets scared of you.

Oh and good luck!!!

What a cutie.

If you want to potty train your dog, first put newspaper everywhere, because the dog will literally go everywhere. They're instinct is to go out of the way (because in their mind its cleaner) so they'll try and go in places like under tables or stairs. Take her outside fairly regularly and if she does go to the toilet praise her heavily. Also if she does go in the house take her outside right away so she starts to associate going outside to going to the toilet.

After potty training you can teach her to sit, and then lie down. They're good tricks because, if she's ever in danger of running into trouble you can make their stop by sitting. To teach the dog to sit you want to use treats. If the dog is standing up facing you, you want to put the treat near their nose and move it over their head. She should follow it, and eventually she'll reach a stage in the movement where she sits down. Then you praise her and give her a treat. When she gets good, you wean her slowly off the treats, until your praise becomes enough.

To get her to lie down, from a sitting position you put the treat on her nose and move it down to between her front paws. You teach it in the same way as sit, except don't praise her when she sits or she'll think the movement is over, only when she has lay down.

Good luck!

edit: I read back through the thread and the training pads idea is good too. We tried the pads and they didn't seem any better than newspaper, but if you start off with the newspapers in the place she likes to go and get her to go on the newspaper and then slowly move the paper towards the door. If she has a specific place she tries to go, and you don't have any carpets (if you have any that you can move. Move them out of the way!), its probably better than putting newspaper everywhere.

What the hell is wrong with you.

I would like to bump this to say this thread is a blatant lie. That picture is not original at all.

Sorry if this doesn't warrant a bump but this is a blog and.. its funny.

I was gonna say that puppy looked like mine when he was young, then I realized the old post of this duplicitous nature, but figured I'd brag about how cute my dog used to be (he isn't cute anymore and dog-dreaming on my pants right now)

It's real, because that is, in fact, my wizard hat he is in.
