Once upon a time, during the early days of Brood War, Turkey had a flourishing scene, with players like SuGosu in Brood War and Venom in WarCraft 3.

There were WCG qualifiers there and those two players were sent to represent their country in the WCG Grand finals. Here is a picture of the 2004 Turkish delegation:

And then in 2007, following the withdrawal of Samsung's financial support, the WCG national tournament was cancelled. This event can be seen as the beginning of the dark ages for the Turkish e-sport scene. One turkish Brood War team, TD) led by the well known Turkish admin Pentagram, survived and kept playing in the various Clan Leagues but they went mostly unnoticed.

With StarCraft 2 however, the e-sport fever is spreading fast, and it has already reached Turkey. Yet, the lack of recognition and awareness of the Turkish scene from the international community is impairing its development.

Turkey is indeed not considered as a major country of e-sport, and while it is true that their players do not yet appear in the final stages of big tournaments and cups, such a big country deserves a little more attention.

The top Turkish team recently managed to get the support of TT esport, a gaming hardware company and a WCG sponsor, in an attempt at bolstering the Turkish SC2 scene with this formed team: V4 gaming. This team is currently enlisted in the SC2CL, in division 2a, and their players are participating in individual cups as well.

However, without WCG nor ESWC this year, team V4 is the only way for foreigners not to forget about Turkey. The team has therefore chosen to open its stream channel "V4 TV", that will be launched shortly.

The current line-up is as follows:

Owner
Vendetta (terran)

Manager
Pentagram(protoss)

Captain
WarAdmiraL(protoss)

Squad
SuGoSu(Random)
DarkSwArM(Zerg)
Tempest (Random)
Spartacus(terran)
SKTerran(terran)
Ille(Zerg)
SuSaNoO(terran)
Darvin (protoss)

It is the dream of most Turkish players to get noticed enough to regain the WCG spot they once had and hopefully we will get to see them again in major LANs and competitions.
Good luck to team V4 gaming, as well as to all the Turkish scene!

Cool find

Just kidding, I'm not surprised Turkey has a relatively undiscovered Gaming scene.

[Extreme, 1-week stay + Turkish friends insider-knowledge ahead]

I mean, it makes sense that there are enough people playing in Turkey overall that there could be a good environment, but it also makes sense that we haven't heard of them.

BTW are you the old Baal? As in the one who said he'd tap Fuddux's daughter? :S

Baal is a Turkish protoss player, he was diamond before masters came out but i don't know his rank. His id was baaluo at that time, later switched to baal.

@OP: I thought Sleeep also played for v4 and turkish scene isn't limited to team v4 (ex td). There are other players like fevax and his team as well. Pentagram said something like that in v4 forum, that is currently closed.

Yes I m not Mexican, but French, but I guess you can still make jokes about it

@Atom: sortof yet, but I know Pentagram well from Brood War, and it s a bit sad they dont have WCG anymore.

Also I m considering writing about the Irish scene too some time later
