Looking to severely improve my stream...

Hey all,

I currently stream my ladder games on http://justin.tv/imjorman (and by ladder games I mean all my games, cause ladder is all I do currently).

My problem is, I don't know what to include. Should I just play some games and stream music along with it, or should I play the game and do voice comedy along with the game? The physical attractiveness of my stream is something I'm also concerned with. My girlfriend is working on attractive banners, posters, etc. but at the time being it's a hideous mess.

Now obviously, the better the player I am, the more people that will watch. But what can I do to help myself on the aesthetic end?

tl;dr What do you guys like to see in a stream that makes you keep coming back?

Do you talk?
I personally always think that adding a bit of personality/interaction with the streamer always makes it a cooler experience.
As for aesthetics; just improving the sound/video/graphic quality is always nice.

Yeah currently my ability to produce quality (video/sound/etc) is rough because of the computer I'm running on, but that will change this summer when I get home from school and start making that money.

I may switch to audio commentary and ditch the music for a bit.

Sorry to say, but when I look at streams, I'm looking for mostly the quality of the streamer, whether they're good players. For example, Spanishiwa's stream background is not very attractive looking imo, but he is an awesome player with a good attitude, which keeps me coming back. IdrA doesn't talk at all and I don't like most of the dubstep music he plays, but his Zerg play is incredible to look at, so that keeps me coming back as well. I like FXOSheth's stream the best however, because he talks to the viewers, and makes interesting small talk while he's playing. He also goes over some of his plays and talks about the strategies he's going to use.

If you're confident that you can thoroughly engage the viewers with talking, then skip on the music and just do commentary while you're playing. Know that this might be distracting to play and comment properly at the same time, so work on that.

On the aesthetic issue, I'll just have to say that your stream shouldn't be too flashy or overly done. Keep it simple.

This is going to sound very cliche but my main advice would be - be yourself. If you're the guy that love to talk with people (in this case the viewers) I think you should do that. If youre not don't force it.

Well that is pretty good input; no one wants to watch a baddie play. Thanks for your input!

I don't think I can focus enough on playing and talking. When I used to talk I would have really long radio silences and then go "So yeah..that sucked." So I know what you mean. If I ever get to the point where I feel like I can manage both playing at the level I'm capable of and commenting on play, I'll do that, but for now dubstep for everybody
