Well, I finally made my decision and I'm going to go to the GWU Elliott School for my Masters. The decision of which school I would go to was made a lot easier because I'm getting a pretty sweet fellowship from GWU that will make my education much more affordable.

So... I'm pretty pumped about that!

I can really say this, and maybe this will be useful/helpful/interesting for some people. I really have missed being in school. I find that in school things are a lot simpler and there's less to worry about. So make sure everyone get as much out of school as you can (if thats your thing)!

I'm excited to get started, I view this as a really fun opportunity and as a new challenge.

Also excited to... play CSL again! I know GWU has a CSL team. I'd also like to say that GWU will be dominating the CSL very shortly ^__^!

cool~

What are you getting your Masters in? In what type of housing will you live? How many credits are you gonna take? BTW Congrats and good luck.

Congrats!

In what way is school simpler? I'm swamped with projects, hw, lab reports, and not to mention all the research that I have put aside to focus on school T_T

Cuz real life is complicated. I'm getting my masters in International Affairs. Not sure what type of housing, I'm going to start looking in about 2-3 months; ideally I'll get a 1 bedroom or a studio. I'm not a fan of roommates and such. As for credits, I like taking a shitton of classes, at UCSD I took 7 classes (25 units) per quarter, so I'll probably take something more than a full-time load. Usually, doing that pushes me to not be lazy and keeps me stressed enough to get my shit done.

Ironically, when I was taking 7 classes per quarter, my grades were better than when I took 4 classes per quarter OO~

Yeah the same thing happened to me. My first semester as an undergrad I took 14 credits (4 classes) and didn't do that well... next semester I took 16 credits and did a lot better. That was also partly do to getting used to college but I think the load definitely had a positive effect. There are also limits to this though! XD

A good number of known community members are currently in grad school. Day[9] was doing his Masters while working on his daily and CatsPajamas does a ton of casting work on top of a PhD I believe?

Our CSL team is quite average ^_^

But we meet up every week, even if the season isn't necessarily on, the 6-7 of us that regularly show up are pretty chill and we play many random games together, its good times.

That said I'm not sure if I'm coming back to GWU next semester but I can hook you up with all of them, but I'm sure you already can seeing as you are a head of the CSL ;o

For your major, GWU is a great choice, hope you have a great time here

I've always wanted to know, what do you do with an IR or international affairs degree? I assume you've got a clear idea since you're going through the trouble of completing a masters program when most IR people I know seem content with a bachelor's degree and work in a completely unrelated field. Just curious, no judgements my man.

Also if you're looking for housing, the only place with singles in the area are pretty expensive, like 1200-1500 a month.

Congrats, man. I'm receiving my BA in a month from GWU. Try to live outside of Foggy Bottom/West End if you like affordability/space. A lot of kids are living off their parents dime, so the rent on the newer apartments can be $1200-1500 for a studio. Lots of yuppies/fairly well-paid people live in the vicinity as well, so the $1500-2000 is fairly common for 1br. I receive pretty much a full-ride from the school, and I was able to split an $1800 1br in Foggy Bottom. You're probably going to have to find a roomate if you want to pay less than $1000. Using a bike makes a lot of sense, especially as rent gets much cheaper when you're north of Dupont Circle/Adams Morgan.

Go to Trader Joe's, food in DC is very expensive, and there are no pizza/normal sandwich shops. Most of the food is either chain-owned or businessperson-oriented. Make sure you can find a place with a decent happy hour/specials, beers are $5 any other time of day usually. Check when stuff closes, last-call is usually 1:30am-ish, and the Metro closes early on the weekdays. DC is not an "all-night" kind of place at all.

Also, GW charges quite a bit (full price for each class) if you go over 17/18 credits per semester (most classes are 3 cr). This may be different for the graduate programs, though.

Just some friendly advice I wish people had given me before I came here Have a good time, PM if you need any specific help with DC/GWU stuff, I've gone through a lot of rent/paperwork things here.

I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be working as much as before on SC, I'll probably just sleep less.

Yea, I'm probably going to get something in the Adams Morgan / Dupont area, I've already found some pretty reasonable 1br places there, hope I'll get lucky again in a few months when it comes down to actually getting a place.

As for what I want to do... I don't have a clear idea to be honest. I have several options:

a) ESPORTS
b) Work, such as at a think tank or other international org
c) Get a PhD

You'll never know (since you'll be happy this way as well), but LSE would have changed your life in ways lower tier universities simply can't. You'll be successful no matter what though so don't worry - a good life lies ahead ^^

Yeah, getting housing under 1k/month is nearly impossible, if you don't bike the metros fine since its right on campus, but the foggy bottom metro is on the other side of campus as the elliot school, so thats a good 10-12 minute walk one way each time.

I can't reiterate what sharkys saying enough, about food in foggy bottom -.- everythings fracking expensive its stupid.

Again, congrats on grad school, and good luck telecommuniting fulltime with NASL as well. I had done that before in college, and needless to say, it was hell.
