EPTI'd like to start with a general introduction of both myself and how I came around to StarCraft. I am a high school student about to take on my senior year soon. I live in Georgia, which is perhaps within the top 5 most boring states for those who don't appreciate history before and leading up to the civil war. So, it's only natural that gaming came into my life.
It actually caught on very early. When I was about 4, I discovered the ancient piece of hardware known as...the Sega Genesis. I caught on to it fast and even at that age was able to beat the first Sonic the Hedgehog game. But anyways, on to the next generation.
About the time I turned 6, my parents bought me a Nintendo 64. From then on, I knew that my mind had been geared towards gaming. I played around with the 64 for years until the Gamecube came out.
Then, a few years after that, I found PC gaming to some degree. Although, at this point it was mostly just flash games, nothing fancy. Then sometime after the 6th grade, my dad gave me a PC that he built by himself. Even still, PC gaming just never caught on, mostly due to the fact that console gaming was just simple (and simple minded mostly). So it was that I remained a console junkie for years until finally it just clicked and I decided that they were no comparison to a PC.
The first RTS game I got into was none other than Warcraft III. I never played it seriously or anything. Mostly just customs with some ladder games mixed in. Years later, a friend told me about Starcraft 2 (this was actually just last December). I had never even heard much about Starcraft before and barely knew it existed. I wasn't sure about it, but he told me that before deciding based on his description, I should look up none other than, Day9.
Of course, I was intrigued enough to do a simple youtube search and find this so called Day9. Then, after watching one of his dailies, I was hooked. That's when I knew that I just had to get a computer able to play this wonderful game known as Starcraft. So I did just that, and within the week had begun my Starcraft experience.
I had very little experience playing RTS games in the past other than my short time playing WC3 years ago and Halo: Wars. So, I had a hard time learning how to play correctly. However, I continued to struggle through it and with the help of Day9, I started to catch on.
My first game of Starcraft 2
I played through my practice league games and little to my knowledge still had A LOT to learn. However, after playing my 1v1 placement matches I was placed in the Silver league from the start. Bad luck rolled around and after about 10 games I was thrown into the dreaded Bronze league. Throughout the time I played in the first season, I was stuck in bronze league. Yet, I could still outplay the majority of these players now thanks to taking some advice from casters (much love to all of you). But as DayJ says, leagues are about progression, not skill. I just kept playing and didn't think much of it.
When Season 2 came around I was placed into silver and was excited to be out of the bronze league, hopefully for good this time. I have remained in the silver league until today, I received a nice message, putting me into gold league. I still have a ways to go, but at least I am making progress!
