I'm in Shanghai for the next couple weeks on vacation.

I would LOVE to hear TL's suggestions on good bars, clubs, restaurants, shopping districts, massage parlors, attractions, and entertainment. Also, any places you've visited which left an impression.

I speak and read Mandarin so getting around town is not a problem. Just need destinations.

Any TLers wanna meet up send me a PM

Was there 2 weeks ago. Man you gotta go to the Shanghai Financial Tower or w/e it's called. (It's the tallest one.)

Go to the observation deck, it's amaaaaziiing. Though it costs to enter there. (Around 20 dollars, 150 RMVB.)

Otherwise Pudong is a nice area to visit.

You interested in fake stuff that's cheap and arguing with sellers? TaoBao's great for that.

Just from the top off my head.

I miss Shanghai so much T_T...let's see, there's the regular sightseeing (Bund, Pearl Tower, Nanjing Lu, Yuyuan Garden). There's a huugeee strip of pi fa dian (does that mean outlet? I'm assuming it does, because it was basically a bunch of huge buildings with bargaining stores) at Tiantong Road on line 10.

As for clubs, most of the people my age (college?) liked Muse the best.

Go to some clubs named Muse, and Muse II. You may need to check the 中文 on those, but those are good nightclubs in the downtown district I can recommend.

plenty of good places to go out, check smartshanghai.com got plenty of good tips and bars and stuff there, also got a lot of weekly parties and stuff like that...
Other than that, go see Hangzhou and a water town (xitang or sth like that? although there's more than just that one). They are close and def worth seeing...
Meet up would be nice if more ppl are interested!

Actually I liked Bar Rouge and M1int more than Muse, I guess it comes down to personal taste. The prices however are almost the level of European clubs, but the Rouge has the best view I have ever seen in a club. It's located at the Bund and you have a perfect view of Pudong at night.

And as Kaolla said, go to Hangzhou if you feel like you had enough of Shanghai. It's not as crowded and really relaxing.

I was in Shanghai a few months ago. It was absolutely amazing. Umm don't really know much about bars and clubs etc. But just make sure you go to the Pearl Tower.

I used to live in Shanghai, its an amazing city!

Like some people above said, Bar Rouge has an amazing night view overlooking the river, the atmosphere is more like a lounge, so if you like dancing then it probably isn't great for you, but do stop by there for a drink at least just for the view.

Muse 1 and Muse 2 are your more typical clubs, they have a north american feel to them, except the dance floors are much smaller and most people get a table to chill at. M1nt is really nice, awesome huge shark tank in there, there are two parts to it, one side is plays house music while the other plays normal clubbing music. I also like Richie, its smaller but the crowd is younger. All these clubs are quite expensive, expect around 90ish rmb a drink.

There are more local clubs, if you wanna give them a try head over to Heng Shan Road, there are tons of bars along that road, I really miss bar hopping there. The prices are also cheaper here.

Shopping isn't so cheap in Shanghai, most of the stuff is almost as expensive as shops in NA so don't get your hopes up :p. The one thing that is damn cheap are books, its a goldmine if you like to read chinese books, 30rmb a pop, or as cheap as 10rmb a book if its fake lolz. The main shopping areas are Nan Jing East Road and Xu Jia Hui. For non name brand stuff, there is an outlet at the Tian Tong Road station, it will probably take you days to look through all the stores here, stuff is really cheap here, but fake. A cool place to go is Tian Zi Fang, alot of cool shops here by local designers and artists, there are also nice restaurants and bars here, awesome place to spend a sunday afternoon.

To be honest, there aren't that many attractions in Shanghai, I would definitely take a couple of days and head over to Hangzhou, you can take a train for 90rmb at the train station, it takes about an hour and half to get to Hangzhou. When you get there I'd recommend you either to take the K7 bus to the end of the line and check out all the attractions around the lake (most of the touristy stuff are around the lake) or you could rent bikes and make your own route.

Pro tip: Its worth it to get that public transportation card, saves you the hassle of carrying tons of change around or waiting in line to use those ticket machines, you can buy one at any subway station as well as recharge it there. Remember to get a refund on it before you leave!

If you need anymore help you can pm me.

My favorite was already suggested, Pearl Tower.

Don't go to expo..whatever you do..I'm not sure it's even still on, but do NOT go...waste of time and money.

I went only one to the expo, and it was so nice (isn't it Kaolla ? ;D) It's already over for a while though.

Hi TossFloss,

Make sure you visit the old town, the urbanism museum, Nanjing dong lu and the bund at night. Any of the three very high towers is great to visit.

If you wanna buy cheap clothes you can go to Qipu lu. It's dirty, crowded, but if you're able to pick the good stalls you can get really good quality stuffs for next to nothing.

For clubs, I like M1nt (best music, best drinks, but VIP and expensive), G+ (cheap, alcohol heavy drinks, incredible deco, but very packed, and music is rather inconsistent).

Avoid the Bar Rouge, the terrace is very nice, but it's very expensive, people are just there to show off and there are a lot of whores. I used to go there a lot very late at night during summer. You arrive at 4am, totally wasted, lie on the sofas on the terrace and watch the sunrise on Pudong. Dunno if the sun rises that early in April haha.

There are just too many restaurants, so it's hard to recommend something. Make sure you have a hotpot, 豆捞坊 is cheap, delicious and you can find one in almost every district.

If you need anything else, feel free to PM. To organize a meet up, you could probably create a thread in the community forum, that may attract more people than the blog (not sure about that though).

What else could you want?

Seriously though, as there are some people here who seem to know Shanghai very well. I'm gonna go to Tongji University next year for 2 semesters to improve my Chinese, it's a little bit northern of Pudong. What would be a good area to live not too far away?

I just remembered! I really liked Sin as well, there was a huge mechanical bull and they give you a hat if you ride it +_+.

If you like books, Fuzhou Lu is really good!

!!

I'm going to be in Shanghai for a couple weeks over the summer, since my family moved there a few months ago. Don't have any friends there though, but hopefully I'll still be able to have a good timee x]. Really want to check out the night life there!
