This blog is just going to be about my personal progress as a player. I can't imagine that's too much interest to most people, so feel free to not read.
Who Am I? No one special. My character name/code is Lace.436 on US. I'm a Silver ranked player. I play Protoss.
What Am I Looking For? Advice is always appreciated. Any sensible people around my skill level that want to play are also welcome; I have almost no Starcraft friends.
Where I'm At Right Now Well, Silver, obviously. I was placed there a few weeks ago as Terran, but then switched to Protoss and found I enjoyed it more. I've been trying to play at least a game a day, if not more, since. I've been watching Day[9] and the GSL for a few months, but felt too intimidated to get started on ladder since I didn't really know anyone and am not much good at the game.
PvP: 4gate. I feel like that's enough for me as a base in this match up at the moment. I'm the most comfortable with it.
PvZ: 3gate expand into trying to head towards Coll/VR. Admittedly in games I've lost I've missed a bunch of production cycles, and it's only been within the last couple of days that I've started to use Sentries (this is what happens when the first build you learn is a 1gas 4gate.)
PvT: 3 gate robo into expand double forge. So far this matchup feels like if Terran are aggressive and stimmy, I lose, if not, I can win. Sometimes. I really don't understand what to do against stim at all.
Headings Split Things Nicely So that's my benchmark right now. One thing I should note is that I haven't really done much reading on match ups, other than to learn the 4gate, 3gate expand, and Tyler's forges. I'll be reading up on more things from now on.

Ignore stats.
Ignore everyone who calls you a fag when you beat them.

Have fun.
Good luck.

If you've only recently started playing SCII (as you seem to suggest), I'd say you shouldn't be laddering just yet. When you're making a shitton of small mistakes, it's very hard for others to help you with your gameplay. Finding a practice partner ~your level is a good idea, otherwise you should be working on perfecting your build orders.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended watching Day9 Daily #269, In it, Day9 talks about how to start playing StarCraft 2 at a competitive level. He talks very little about the actual game in terms of strategy and game play more about how to approach playing the game. Parts of the videos are for people who have never laddered, but other parts a silver/gold/platinum player.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I really wasn't expecting anyone to read, let alone so many helpful bits of advice.
@LonelyIslands: Added you on bnet.

That was actually the video that got me started on playing at least a game a day on ladder, instead of sitting back being intimidated. Best Daily I've ever watched.

Yeah, that daily is what prompted me to actually get an account on TL. I'm a silver protoss as well. Hit me up if you guys want to practice! Rhapsody.294
