New Laptop?

Hey guys, I just lost my laptop while on a trip abroad. I am in the position of needing a new laptop very soon (in less than 2 weeks). But I haven't done research on hardware or purchased a new one in over 2 years. Its basically a desktop-replacement. I'd like for it to have an HD screen and it needs to have HDMI out and a nice video card (of course i'll be playing SC2 on it too...) It needs to be in the $1200-$1500 price range, but might be willing to go over slightly if someone shows me something really awesome.

I hate to seem like I'm using you guys as my personal army or something but I know TLers are always up on the latest tech and smart enough to know what deals are good and which aren't. Thanks for the help!

$1200-1500 can buy you any laptop you want.

The Dell Xps series is really nice, I would recommend something like that.

Pretty overpriced for the specs...

OT: 1500 dollars can buy you ANY laptop essentially, as long as you aren't set on certain, very-expensive brands (Apple, Alienware, etc.). Check out newegg.com, surf around the TL tech forum, figure out what parts are good what parts are not-so-good, and get something awesome for like 1000 dollars.

XPS are overpriced for specs for sure, not to mention dell's build quality is ugh....awful

Check the MSI GT660 or some version of that or better, those laptops are sick good and powerful, if you take more time to research you'll find one in that price range that'll be the best deal but that sort of laptop is the price range/spec range you should be looking at.

Depending on how far over $1500 you can go, the Sony VAIO F is pretty damn good.

Then again, what size are you looking for?

I personally recommend a high end Samsung... If you have 1500~ to spend, you'll probably be able to get something with at least a 1 gig video card, potentially more.

I have an R580 that I got for school work, and it's basically ^ with an i5 and 512 video ram. But Iove it. The keys are very nicely spaced for playing SC, and as with just about all Samsung products, the screen quality is unbeatable.

One caution - and this may have just been with my laptop, but even so I'll throw this out there: My laptop had a semi-bad tendency of overheating if played while charging (on, say my bed) and it would insta-die. That being said, if you don't have adequate cooling areas for it buy a 30 dollar fan and I think you'll be very happy.
