I am now trying to make my way to masters and currently I'm 3150 platinum with the little up arrow . I am rank 11 in my division but its weird because with like one game i could be in third place and another game into first, that's how close everyone is in points, but i works the other way too. one loss I could be at like 20. Hopefully I will be moving to diamond soon. I am pretty sure that I'm a long ways off from masters but maybe in a month or too?
I also don't think that I really learned this game that fast. It really took me a while to get going and i have almost 1200 games and only in platinum but nerveless i will press on to my goal. And that goal would to eventually try my hand at the competitive scene and maybe become a pro.
It will have to happen will I'm still in college because doing a full time job like teaching (which is the career I'm going into) is hard.
I am also don't know how to get into competitive gaming. I would assume just start turning up at tournaments and streaming to get my name out there but i really don't know how to get into the tournaments or where to find the good ones to start a gaming career. But this is most likely a long ways off. i would like it to happen where I am good enough for tournements in about 3-4 months but on small step at a time.
I'll post my progress here and when I buy a new desktop I'll start streaming.
later!
Edit: for that one comment- 2/3s of my games played were all in bronze but once i got out i have only gone up. Ive been playing for about 2 months roughly and I'm one game like 5 points from taking first in my plat division which everyone is above 3100 points in the to 20 so i am basically playing exclusively diamond players.

You seem a little naive no offense. GL You could try joining a clan.

If you're 3150 Platinum and have played 1200 games, competitive gaming isn't for you. Aim for improvement first.

that's what i said. no ever remembers the guy who didn't try. one step at a time
and I'm not stupid, I have a career to go into to secure my future so what is there but to go for my dream?
exactly nothing.

He was poking fun at that statement; I know I chuckled

if you have played 1200 games and only in platinum does that not sigal something? maybe you need to watch replays and study games to improve. it sounds like your doing the same build order every game that works now and then. not trying to be bad manner or anything just some advice ;p
also diamond players are quite bad, i sort of class them as the new platinum

Massing games alone does not help improve. You need a clear sense of target, specific areas in your gameplay that need improving, be it mechanics, execution or general gamesense.
Because ladder is random and filled with cheese at lower levels, if you are losing in a particular match up you should practice it with a partner in custom games. Focus on learning timing's and scouting - they are extremely important to high level play. At your platinum level, you probably need to improve macro and execution - it's possible to get to diamond/masters purely with macro. Of course you need to pay attention to your units also... you don't want to lose 10 minutes worth of macro units to a few siege tanks just because you weren't paying attention.
Try to identify your weaknesses and find ways to improve them specifically, instead of mass laddering.

Actually, I've found that since graduating and getting a job, I've had a lot more time to play. I don't know how many hours you need to put in as a teacher, but I have a normal 9-5 job so when I get home, I can easily get in 4-5 hours of gameplay every day if I'm motivated. In college, I was a lot busier and even when I did play, I had coursework and other things on my mind so it was hard to focus.
That being said, I think if you were really cut out to be a progamer, 3-4 months would be plenty of time to get into masters with proper practice.

Like my coach used to say, "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect".
Don't listen to the nay sayers saying you have no chance since you ware in platinum, but you will need to do more than just mass ladder.
