So I'm thinking of buying one. Any recommendations? A friend of mine has a HK Benchmade 14440 SB. He said it was alright, but it only cost $30, so it's fairly cheap. He recommended the Osborne 940 if I was going to spend money on it, but I can't find the god damn thing for any less than $170, and that seems a bit too expensive.

So yeah, any suggestions? I don't know exactly how much I want to spend on it. I just know $170 is too damn high.

I love Sanrenmu knives. High quality chinese manufacturer. Most blades are in 8Cr13MoV, don't know if that fits your requirements.
Extremely sharp and stylish. I own 4 of them and love it.

Can't really go and ask for a knife recommendation without mentioning whether it's for utilitarian, show, ~~or "tactical"~~ purposes, whether you have done military service or law enforcement, what state and city you live in, how often you travel to other cities, if you do travel what cities, and whether you intend to carry it on your person everyday, keep it in the car, or in pack.

It's very important that you know the knife laws of your district, city, and state. It can vary at each level and that difference can lead to a fine or worse.

if you want a knife to commit crime, the best one is always a PAPER KNIFE.

Easy to hide, carry around as an office tool, always stay sharp both edge and head. After the crime happen you could simply break it apart easily and throw each part at a random location.
Edit: requires TONS of practice to be deadly, not for amauter to use it on the street.

If you want a knife for decoration, on the other hand, try to look into the japansese ones. They are both used in kitchen and by Yakuza xD... Not as handy as western swiss type but they are sharp and last longerrrrr.

I have a Benchmade 551 and absolutely fucking love it. I strongly recommend Benchmade. I also recommend staying away from knives branded with a specific name but yet have nothing to do with said brand (e.g. Smith & Wesson cutlery).

Edit: Lol at all of the people getting concerned he wants a knife. There's plenty of worthwhile uses for knives. People carry them on a daily basis, you know. Relax.

asking for just a knife is like asking for just a car - it doesnt work like that unless you have zero expectations, but then you can just take any knife from your kitchen and be done with it.

let us know a little more about your preferences, do you want something big, a utility knife for everyday carry, should it be extremely tough or just used for light cutting, do you want something that looks stabby and scary or just elegant...

i also recommend you inform yourself about knife laws in your state if you plan on carrying a knife around with you before purchasing one that might get you into trouble.

one suggestion i can throw out is a benchmade mini griptilian (BM555HG or BM556) - a general purpose knife with similar size as the hk knife but the same quality as the osborne.

if you want more information, you will have to give us some more details

Well, what is one of these uses? In my country it's illegal to carry around a knife bigger than a few centimeters so I really have no idea. Can't see myself having much use of one if I'm not going backpacking etc.

Also, if you plan to kill someone, knives are a bit messy and not for the inexperienced. Better to buy a sniper rifle or something if you think that you may get a weak stomach.
