My parents both play video games. My father played RPGs (Icewinddale, Baldur's Gate) and strategy games (Warcraft 1, Heroes of Might & Magic). My mother only adventures (The old Interplay Star Trek games from '92, Monkey Island, ...). Though both of them switched to Lord of the Rings Online ~2-3 years ago. Now all they do is play that with my sister (raiding and stuff), because they dont have a lot of time (casuals, 4-5 hours a week) Reminds me I promised to help my mother and teach here how to use hotkeys... My father was thinking about picking up SC2 but then said "I'm too slow for RTS these days". Both are 59 =)

She often also asks me to look up how to beat that level she's stuck at. Also my dad enjoys playing games, mostly single player ones, like Mafia II, CoD and similar ones. He has also played SC2 single player, after seeing me play it. I remember playing Q3, NFS:U and Warcraft 3 (amongst other LAN titles, I remember these off the top of my head) on LAN as well, it was pretty fun. Shame he doesn't have too much time for gaming nowadays though.

I think it's pretty common for fathers to play games, maybe not q3 sc2 etc but the majority of people's fathers (that I know) have a console, something to do with trying to recapture their youth probably .

My mum thought the same for quite a while, It wasn't until I explored and explained to her the benefits of gaming (networking with people from other countries, media aspects etc) that she approved of it and started to take an interest in what I was doing, after that she was happy and supported me with it.

And why is your mother the coolest being ever? My mother, like all mothers in my family, find video games to be the bane of my growth and possible prosperity. Additionally, I got her to play Mario Kart Double-Dash once, she somehow managed to get us to boost backwards.
