I quit smoking last Tuesday, and it's been hell on wheels since. This is probably exaggerated by the fact that my boss smokes a cigar after lunch, and the lunch room is approximately 30 feet from my desk and I can smell the sweet, enticing grip of the deliciousness and then I think "i would fucking murderdeathkillchoke a bitch for a smoke" and then I get a massive headache and get pissed off and easily annoyed.

I almost bought a new pack of the amazingly smooth Camel Turkish Golds today when I went out for lunch. And then I remembered that smoking was killing me horribly (already started developing some breathing problems BLAH) but the lustrous nicotine was calling me.

How do you jerks quit smoking and live?

I'm going to go bash my head on my desk for a while.

ps, never start smoking. theres only 2 ways to quit: death and the other way. i dont know which id prefer right now

if the smell is tempting you, maybe put some fresheners at your desk? not sure... just thinking of possible ways

I've never smoked, and don't ever intend to start, but out of all the people I know the only ones that have quit successfully just went straight up cold turkey and got through it.

I would, but I have no time. I work 50 or more hours per week. I'll look into it though.

Maybe you should really take a grip on how short your life is, and how much you're shortening it by smoking.
The life expectancy right now in Canada is 81, and in the US it's 78.

I'm unsure of how old you are right now, but if you're 25 right now, you're only 50 years away from the life expectancy, without the side affects of smoking. That's 1/3 of your life done, and you've just shortened it by smoking.
Those 50 years you were wanting and had, you only have half of now. Maybe 2/3 of them. Anywhere from 25-35 more years.

Life is so precious, and you're throwing it into the trash can to be thrown away with half of those dreams you had. ]:

;__;
People smoking makes me sad. I understand the stress relief, and I've seen that very relief in action so many times, but it's not worth damage done to your body! T__T !!!!

That's all I can say. ;__;

Edit: If you stop smoking now, give your body 15 years, and it won't be perfect, but you'll have greater increased your chances of living longer. The body is amazing and repairs itself so well on it's on.
You just really need to focus on a healthier, better lifestyle. You're benefitting from it in the long run.

Also, kissing someone who smokes? It tastes absolutely disgusting. :< Girls do not like it. :<

i quit cold turkey. one thing to notice is to never giving up quitting; because each time you do it, you're learning about how you quit, and ways that work and ways that don't.

having a replacement is always good, and having someone whos there for you when you're frustrated also helps. perhaps you should smoke to look cool, get a girl interested in the long term, and suck her into your bullshit, so she'll pet your head when you have a bad day.

Edit: By the way telling people how harmful it is will never cause someone to quit smoking. smokers know the risks better than anyone, and nothing you can say will make someone so disgusted they quit. Pictures of people's lungs, on the otherhand, have caused a couple of my friends to quit.

I really think that not thinking about smoking is the best way but i can tell it is very hard to do.
I 100% agree that working out will help you sooooo much. Few people ever smoke at gyms. Although i am sure some people do but that is not even the main reason. Working out is so good for you, both physically and mentally. It will make you feel better about your self(possibly reduce your headaches) and it will keep your mind off of you know what
If you ever have a HUGE urge to smoke that you feel is impossible to resist. Give yourself a minimum of 30 minutes and i bet you will feel good enough to be able to keep on going. Just remember that you have to quit sometime, and do you really want to go through all this again.

I totally believe in you and you got this!!! (btw, you can punch dance out your rage if things get rough, watch HOT ROD if you do not know what i mean)!!

Unfortunately, you can't say never. -shrug-
I only tell people what I've told those close to me, so. If it works for them, that's great. If not, that's okay too. Whether someone is close to me or not, or I know them or I don't, I'm still going to treat them with the same care and same attitude, because it's a difficult thing to stop smoking. It's a difficult thing to stop any addiction.
And no, I don't think all smokers know the risks better than anyone. LOL. =__='' !!

I don't really see making life shorter as a good point here. People die in early ages even if they don't smoke and there are smokers that are 90 and doing quite well.

However making the life more joyfull and overall healthier is the correct point here. I have been smoking for 7 years and i cut down on it a lot lately but i still can't manage to quit totaly. I hadn't had a proper hangover for last 6 years, my hangover is always 10x more painful and worse than non-smokers. Basically it is not alcohol that makes it bad but all those cigarettes i smoked during the night. It makes your whole body feel very weak sometimes and you feel out of energy. It causes heavy breathing problems during any physical activity. I used to work out a lot and i was always breathing like crazy after 2 sets of benchpress. There are more problems which smoking causes including bad smell of all your clothes all the time.

Only thing is that smoking just feels so good at the moment and it really greatly help to relieve stress or bad feeling. It is drug in the right sense of the word. However i really wish Tofucake and everyone who wants to quit very strong mind as it is heavily needed. I quit few times before for couple months, but going to pubs or parties where it is filled with smoke, it is very hard to resist lighting up one cig and then it all comes back again. I recommend never ever smoke even one if you really want to quit.

Yeah, I know how you feel man. I'm 26, been smoking for like 7 or 8 years. Keep trying to quit, but somehow always end up convincing myself to smoke.

Also been smoking weed, which isn't helping. At night time I can hear myself wheezing and coughing a lot already.

I think cold turkey is the best way. It really is difficult though. Right now I don't have a job and I'm sharing an apartment with my sister. So i'm bored constantly and stressed out because I just want my own place again. That's basically my excuse at the moment. Quit smoking when I have money coming in and my own place.

But, they're just crutches, I need to quit NOW, because I don't have a lot of money and my health is just deteriorating quickly. I should be using this down time to quit smoking and exercise.

I have some cigs to last the rest of the day, going to make another attempt to quit tomorrow, hopefully for good.

If you have some time, you can check out The Silly Old Dude on youtube, he uploaded videoes for his quitting smoking cold turkey quest.

+ Show Spoiler +
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSillyOldDude#p/u/32/XVx7ifflT4M

That's the first video. Not that it will guarantee you will quick smoking, but he analyzes quitting and the withdrawal nicely. He also has a video on smoking pot, which makes me feel dumb for doing so.

Anyway man, just keep trying and don't give up. Your lungs, body and mind will ultimately appreciate your new health. Good luck to both of us.

My mom has been smoking for about 30 years, and in a way I guess.. she sort of just grew out of it. Or she realized she's getting older, and my sister really needs her in her life right now.
She has maybe, 1 smoke a day? 75% of the time she doesn't.

I bring age in, because as you get older, the realization of "hey, i'm old. oh shi-" comes into play. Some people accept it, and move on and be happy about it, but i'm sure people get scared. I know i'm personally terrified of getting older, dying. I can scare myself into not leaving the house very easily, because of how fragile life feels. x__x
When I get older, i'm gonna be a wreck, and I know it.
That's why I don't smoke, I stopped doing drugs, I stopped drinking, and why i'm trying to move my life into a healthier light. x_X!!

Edit: I forgot what I was typing halfway through this, so sorry if it stopped making sense. /facepalm

Sure, and some people are obese and live to over 90, while some who are fit die before 60. Still on average exercise is good for you and being overweight is bad.

If you really want something it messes with your head until you can ignore or minimize its dangers.

Giving up smoking is good for you, just as surely as going to the gym is. Probably matters much more too on average.

And this is a perfect example of flawed logic. The world doesn't work like that, people have died tripping over their own feet and landing badly while others have survived being shot in the head. That does not mean that it's less dangerous to be shot in the head than trip once in a while.
