so I moved to Shanghai for a transfer to Shanghai university of finance and economics (shanghai cai jing da xue for chinese people) going to do a finance degree now. used to be doing an economics degree from stockholm, but this school is better and the move was natural. feels really great and its so nice to be back in china again living with my parents eating good food, although i dont have internet in my room yet and the only satisfactory gym near my place has no powercage so no more squats =( will have to make do with deadlifts, frontsquats, cleans and snatches... maybe start doing barbell lunges.. hm...

facebook and youtube is blocked. does anyone know of a proxy link that works? thanks soooo much in advance.

Someone should make a proxy site called 2gate.com
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

There was a couple of threads about it on TL already. I find Freegate 7.07 very efficient. Don't expect to watch youtube videos like with a real broadband connection, but it's perfect for Facebook.

PM me you email :o

edit : ill be back online at 10pm, lemme know if you havent found it yet, ill sent it to you by email.

Try proxomitron, it's the best I've used.

It's a list of web based proxy. You maybe won't be able to watch youtube videos but facebook should work fine.

I just use Hotspot Shield and cut down on my Facebook-ing and Youtube-ing as much as possible.

Some image hosting sites are also banned and Google Images sometimes fails to work properly, so for those I just go to http://www.vtunnel.com.

Ugh. FB's captcha isn't loading for me. I'm getting some security thing since this is my first time trying to log into FB in China...

Aww sick, I just moved to Shanghai for my internship as well. You in Pu Dong? Yeah, all the shit is blocked, and the shit that isn't, I can't read the Chinese. Tough luck about the gym. Shouldn't a university have a gym? My company has a pretty good one, so I'm set.

As long as we are on topic... anyone know where I can download BW in Shanghai? Cause Iccup is slow as fuck. Or for that matter, any good online games with Asian servers for low lag?

I got so fucking desperate for a english game with fast downloads, I actually tried downloading MapleStory. I'm so ashamed. Turns out thats blocked too. They have some Chinese rip off instead. I was like... no.

you can play on VS or haofang. HF is for casual players but VS is a ladder like iccup. they work like hamachi in that you play on UDP lan.

setting up is a little complicated, maybe someone can walk him through?

What, they even block Youtube in China? 0_o

Here in Vietnam the gov blocked FB but thank god Youtube is left unharmed.

You can use lisp4.facebook.com to access FB; but for Youtube... I really don't know.

just get witopia. www.witopia.net. Only 5 dollars a month and it's fast and reliable as fuck. Totally worth it.

Seems like the best option. I know some who use it.

vpn from your home college, if you can get it, is good.

tor and vidalia (i think only works on mac) is what i used, and it worked perfectly.

VS is nice, but it only works with BW 1.13
And the ladder system is really bad, because you can basically use any map (I got level 16 in two weeks on fastest maps in summer '09 haha), and there is no admin at all. But it's definitely the place to play if you can't play without lan latency (I got used to play on high latency on iccup now).

If anyone in Shanghai is D+ / C- level or w/e, we can play using direct IP connection, lemme know :D

thanks for all the replies.

yea i think ill have to pay for a vpn or something for good internet but after a week i dont really miss facebook or youtube anymore. school starts feb 21 so i might wait till then to see if the school has a vpn. and yea i hope the school has a gym with a squat rack/powercage or else fuckk man my squat maxed out at 140kg but probably total shit right now so i need to get it back up asap. deadlift already down from 170kg to 140kg =(

im a D+ protoss in shanghai so yea i can play just gotta get internet to my room first since the internet here is totally whack like we gotta move the modem and then get a router etc its pretty annoying and complicated

yea i can read chinese haha im chinese lol. i guess ill have to get used to tudou, yukou and taobao and all that other stuff.
