iPod Touch Functionality Offline?

I got an older 2nd gen 8gig mc model a week or so ago from craigslist. My first thought was, "this is awesome! compact touch screen with web browsing capabilities on the ipod brand I already enjoy." But after about a week, I'm not so impressed.

Are there any offline functions for an ipod touch? As long as you're near a wifi connection, great. But otherwise, its feels useless.

You use apps listen to music, watch videos, and use everything on the hard drive offline. You know, like a computer?

Use it in a vehicle to play all of the music you want? Take it with you on a run? Use it any time you are near a wifi connection (as you said). Bring it with you on vacations to show your family all the pics of you and your friends/family/children. There are many many things that it can be used for. its not called the iPodGameboy. It isnt meant just for fucking around on the internet with. If that is what u wanted it for, then you are correct, you bought the wrong product.

Playing music, videos, watching images that you moved from iTunes. There's a notes section where I tend to keep some tabs on, as well as a calendar to just check the dates that are far in the future. Other than that, there's really nothing else you can do with the iTouch.

You can get apps on it, like games and such, and use those while it's offline I think o_O

If you want to browse the web everywhere, then getting a iPod was not a great idea.

Nethack app... so good

if you jailbreak (I haven't, I'm waiting on the 4.2.1 update), you can run SNES/GBA/NES games. I hear PSX and N64 emulators are out there as well, though I don't know how they handle.

I have an ipod touch and 90% of the time I use it with no internet. I play games, listen to music, use the calendar a ton and read books on it

Yeah, gosh, I guess it is pretty useless...

The only think I can think of is, you know, using it to play music. Who uses their Ipod for that?

I fail to see how not being able to browse the web negates the fact its a MP3 player, a PMP and a gaming device.

There are plenty of great things to do with your touch, that said I wouldn't read books on it as the screen rapes your eyes.

Really sob3k, thats the best you can do? Why even post if you aren't going to try to be helpful?

nethack looks awesome, thanks myopia. I know the snes emulator is choppy as hell, but the nes and gba emulators are decent.
